KitKat 4.4 :: Unable To See Desktop Bookmarks In Android Chrome Browser Unless Sync Active
Feb 27, 2014normally I have sync turned off to prolong battery life but it also removes the capability to see the desktop bookmarks while in Android's Chrome browser. I thought the bookmarks were stored locally and then synced back when sync turned on.
To see desktop bookmarks I have to flip the sync on do my thing and then flip it back off when I'm done browsing.

Apr 11, 2014I'd like to make my browser continue loading homepages, even when I'm not starring at the respective tab. Hardware-wise this should be entirely possible with a Quad-Core CPU.
Right now, there is no root or custom ROM on my device which I'm willing to change in favor of the above improvement.

Jun 3, 2014Noticing that since the latest Chrome updates you open a web page and all you get is a blank page? I have been having this happen a lot lately since the last update(s) Also it doesn't seem to matter which brand phone, it's happening on HTC One, LG Optimus GPro, and Sony Xperia Z1.

I'm writing wondering why if this is a Google phone why doesn't Google and htc implement Google chrome web browser in the phone i mean come on there's opera mini browser in there. I'm not saying anything bad about opera thats other people vote on good or bad but why not have Google chrome in a Google phone?? when Apple makes a device the use what they make ( I'm a huge apple user I work for them ) notice i didn't use the word "fan"?

Nov 2, 2012I have motorola defy running CM10, and I can sync chrome bookmarks using chrome for android. But the app is a bit laggy on defy, so I am using stock android browser and here is a method to sync bookmark between chrome browsers and android browser:

The root cause of problem is Google desktop browser supports encryption for all data types while Android browser supports only for passwords. Here is how to do it and sync Chrome bookmarks with Android browser. Go to Google Dashboard confirming your password. Scroll down to section chrome sync and click on Stop sync and delete data from Google. This will delete entire synced browser data in Google account and it might take few minutes. Now open Google chrome, go to Settings. There you can find sign in section. Click sign in to chrome. Here you will have to generate Application specific password if you have enabled Two Step verification. Then it will take you to Confirm sync settings window. Click advance and make sure you have selected encrypt passwords only. If you encrypt all synced data android browser won't be able to work with them. Click OK to proceed with syncing. In your android Smartphone go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> browser and Clear data. Now go to Settings -> Accounts & sync. You will be able to see Sync browser is working fine now. Open the browser and go to Bookmarks. Now you can see all the Bookmarks that you have in desktop browser in your Android Smartphone browser as well.

Apr 13, 2010I placed this query on another board but no ones has been able to help so far. Anyone any idea if this exists or nor? Is there any way of reading a barcode from your mobile browser? I'm sure I'm missing something here. Every time I find a barcode while browsing on my phone I then have to open the same web page on a desktop / laptop so I can snap it with the barcode reader on my phone. I'm probably just being stupid but can I get my phone browser to read the barcode? Do any browsers offer this as a plugin?

I click a video from say, 9news.com. The video plays in landscape mode with the PLAY button and slider for video time progress.
BUT, when the play button and slider disappears, so does the video. There is sound, but no video.

I know it is possible to sync opera desktop version with mobile version but it does not open a few pages correctly on some of the sites i use and i am not too keen on the pc version of opera, its trying to do too much.
Surely i would have thought googles own browser should be able to sync with google mobile browser.

Jun 3, 2014I just got a new AT&T Radiant (aka ZTE Z740). I had it for a few days while I waited for a SIM card to come in the mail, installed one app, and just got a feel for how it worked on wifi. (I've never had an Android or any smart phone before). Last night after activating the phone and setting up the data connection with Consumer Cellular, I noticed that the Chrome browser icon was missing from the app tray. I don't know exactly when that happened, but it was possibly related to the data setup process.
I've searched Google and the forums here and haven't come up with a solution. I've seen suggestions for unhiding icons, but I don't seem to have the option to hide/unhide icons, or at least I'm not finding it (if I hit the menu button from the app drawer, I just get 'manage apps' and 'system settings').
I also a suggestion to look at the disabled apps list, but the 'manage apps' function doesn't indicate that Chrome is disabled. It is still there - I don't think it can be uninstalled.
I'm not sure what else to do. Is factory reset the next step? Not looking forward to setting up the data connection again (I guess I would need to go through all the settings and write them down, unless there is a way to back them up).

Oct 7, 2011The best feature of ICS? Google is going to make the Chrome Browser the standard browser on Ice Cream Sandwich. It's going to have a different interface obviously but it's going to be indistinguishable from the desktop browser as a user agent.
That means Hulu, ABC.com, Fox.com are all going to be usable on the Google TV, Android tablets and ICS phones!

Aug 25, 2010This little web page runs fine on my desktop but when selecting the area with a G-1 Android device (select box that says statewide..) the data refreshed with the requested data in the table but the text in the select box does not change,,, the other select boxes (month and year) work fine.. Fwiw the data is still rough and so is the gadget...

The broader question, i guess, here is how to debug a web page on any android browser? we don't have a firebug equivalent..
Further I confirmed the same bug in the Moto Cliq browser (also old still a 1.5) very strange every once in a while the G-1 operates correctly, but I can't figure out how to get it to do it, just that every once in a while the select shows in the window when selected and the data refreshes..
I have verified that this seems to be a verified bug in the early browsers... so now I'm trying to figure a work around, I added setFocus on the select box but it is ignored on the Android G-1

I have three select boxes on the app so I need to display the selected info...as the selection is served.. not just initialization. FWIW the behavior seems to be on select boxes that have the selection dynamically loaded,, when I finish all three boxes will need dynamic loading now only the area box is dynamic, year/month are coded and so work.

Apr 18, 2014in iOS, I can set a DND mode for a specific time automatically so the phone will not ring or alert me during that specified time. This is particularly useful for a recurring event (meeting or sleeping time).
Is there a way to do that in 4.4.2 without downloading a new app in Google Play? It would be nice to be able to do that automatically so i do not have to silent the phone every single time for that recurring event.

Mar 13, 2014I've encountered a very strange problem for programmatically turning on/off the airplane mode.I'm aware that it's one of the secure settings, and my app is a system app that is correctly signed.
However, I'm not able to correctly turn on/off the airplane mode.I have the following codes: (checked value is from onCheckedChanged callback of a check box UI)

The line where it calls Settings.Global.putInt(....) works, because we can see that the airplane mode's check box in the android's settings app will changes as we change this value from our app, so we know that our app is indeed a system app. Otherwise, it will throw a SecurityException at this line.
However, we're getting "Permission Denial: not allowed to send broadcast android.intent.action.AIRPLANE_MODE", at the line where it calls mContext.sendBroadcast(...). I have no idea why this fails while Settings.Global.putInt works.
One last note is that we're using Android 4.4.2 (KitKat).

Mar 25, 2014Just upgraded to Kitkat. Now when I come out of airplane mode there is no way to enter my Sim pin code. The only solution I've found is to reboot it.
Before kitkat I'd have to select an app like tasker or data manager before it'd ask for the pin. This no longer happens though. HTC One
