the image that im talking about and some people are saying it could just be a theme well my chrome browser updated tonight.....and i go to click on the notifications button and i see the same image thats in the messages app.i just thought it was ironic..

It's kind of hard to explain, but an example of what I'm wanting to accomplish is like this: thought about generating the layout in html and using a web view, but I need to be able to perform an action when the user clicks on the image. Does anyone have any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI prefer the 4.3 dialer to the new 4.4 dialer in kitkat. I tried removing google dialer and replacing it with a copy of 4.3's dialer from my nandroid. It sort of worked. The dialer launches and works as you'd expect. However as soon as you press send to make a call, the dialer screen disappears. The call is placed successfully but you can't end it, see the keypad, or speaker options. The in call screen basically disappears. You can still get to call history but none of the call screen options are visible.

how does the "nearby places" function work? i try for example to type in "pizza" but nothing... and beleive me, there are pizza restaurants nearby.
When I dial 1 specific number, an Unknown call with the date of December 31, 2034 shows up in the call log. On an outgoing call. Only happens when I dial out that number and not when I receive it. Normally, I wouldn't care,I have like 10 Unknown calls at the top of my log.

Rotating the phone is super quick, with no lag like the normal rotation. Will the rotation be more like it is on floating image with 2.1? Or can Dev's take anything from this app and make the rotation orientation better for normal use on the hero?
View 12 Replies View RelatedSince the time I have upgraded to KitKat- I have been facing the issue of Call History. Every Time I miss a Call and I click on the name/number- Its asks me to select a default option of whoch way to open that entry , that is, through Dialer or through History. I tried selecting history and clicked on the "always use this option" but the same thing kept happening every time. After a few tries, I chose the other option and did the same thing and it again kept appearing... It looks like there's a bug in this and it never really saves my preference.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI moved from my Nexus 4 to a new Nexus 5. I want to export the data from the stock messaging app on the Nexus 4 into Hangouts on the 5. It looks like Hangouts won't convert them if they're not already in a messaging app on the same phone. I've tried installing Go SMS on the 5 but it won't see the messages either. I'm trying to move them using My Backup Pro.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was excited to see that Google had updated the stock Email app to be more like the latest Gmail app so I installed it on my Nexus 7. I was almost shocked to see that they STILL haven't added the 'auto fit messages' option like Gmail has. How can Android be so far along and still not have this extremely basic option? I know a few 3rd party email clients support this, but it seems crazy to me that they didn't do this.

Until recently when I received a message and swiped down on the notification bar I would see the contact's picture next to the text message. I have saved contact pictures for most of my gmail contacts (had to since google won't pull in Facebook picture but that's another gripe). Recently however, the contact picture does not display in the notification area when I get an SMS. It just show a grey/black/white image where the contact picture should be. The contact picture still appears in the actual text message and in my list of text messages but not in the notification area. I have a Nexus 5 which I believe is up to date on all updates.

However, before I decided to install a my new ROM I took a image backup in CWM and I'm guessing the messages got backed up too. I would reload the backed up image that CWM did but I'm getting this pesky MD5 mismatch nonsense.
So rather than faff with that, is there a way I can extract the messages / sms history from the image and restore it whilst in my new ROM environment?
Currently running DeFroST 6.0 forHTC desire (AOSP FRG83 + CyanogenMod). I rooted using unrevoked 3. I installed defrost 5.9via Rom manager then upgraded to 6.0 via defrost settings.

when I run bootloader I see 'no image' and 'wrong image' messages displayed
I am unable to delete stock apps that came with the defrost Rom. In root explorer I mount r /w and delete an app. Confirm delete message shows up. But when I exit app is still there in the drawer functioning normally.
I was told this could be because NAND is locked. I understand that it should be unlocked when the unrevoked root was performed. I suspect that the error message - not enough space I saw in recovery might have something to do with the NAND setting.
Before I installed defrost 5.9 I tried to install the cyanogen 6 Rom via Rom manager. I saw 'not enough space. On device' or something similar (can't remember exactly) displayed in recovery. i think this might have something to do wit NAND setting as well
btw my desire is CDMA. Can any body shed some light on this. im a newb so simple terms please
We want to disable the default dialer application and install our own dialer application on phone. We want to know how we can disable the default dialer so that it doesn't listen for missed calls, incoming calls and also it doesn't gets launched by other application for making calls instead our application gets launched. Only our dialer application should be listening on it. We want to use same format as existing content URIs supported by default dialer in our own dialer application. Is this possible? If yes then how we can achieve it? We don't want to delete the call log application code or we don't want to remove it from build. We want to have default dialer in device. Our dialer application will be installed later may be by downloading from Internet by end user.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy app is downloading a file that does not need to be kept. So I was trying to put it in the directory returned by Environment.getDownloadCacheDirectory() (that returns "/cache").
But apparently it is not accessible, (a FileNotFoundException is thrown).
I have the icon but when I click on it I get a pop up saying "No files are found on your SD card" and nothing else?

All I do to the string is read it, and display in an HTML view. I would not have expected the %20s to be interpreted, yet they are. Is this the correct behaviour, or is Android being typically buggy?
i jus rooted my behold 2 and it is very slow. twlauncher forcloses and it doesnt respond to my touch for a while. does downloading one of the roms help this?

I installed text to speech and it works, but when i go to run something that uses stt (like in handcent) it just says "rencognizer not present." However, I'm not able to scroll the contents of a TextView (that's on 1.6). I've reduced my code to the most trivial example:

I then defined a really long string for testing, which I set on this text view using setText(). The text is too long for the TextView, but there is no way to scroll it. So do I need to wrap it in a ScrollView after all?
I have to say that when the Android Market tells me I can browse the "top" apps but need to use the on-phone App-finder to see it all, I am immediately Paranoid. This is precisely the Hipster-Nerd-Elite stuff that makes me go all queasy when I think of the low-hanging I-Fruit that is everything open-source is NOT. It makes a person ask, what are you hiding?
Having said this, I still expected that there would already be several large Softpedia-type sites with a google or two of applications waiting for the Android user. You know--everything that open-source is. So now I find myself looking for an alternative audio-player to find that only TuneWiki comes up more than once or twice (and with each new introduction I like the option less).
So am I looking in all the wrong places, or should I have stuck with WM if I wanted 35 choices for every type of app? Right now, I'm feeling a bit scared at least until my contract is up again.

Just wanted to make sure that the Hero is supposed to be a multitasking device? Because every time I try to multitasking, my phone freaks out.
For example, as I was typing this (i am typing this post on my Hero), my green LED started flashing because I got an email. So I pressed home so I could check my email (no notification drag down in browser) and phone started to just get jittery, get stuck, and just freak out and lag. All the meanwhile, the music I was listening to started to skip and stutter like crazy. That was just a simple multitasking task that went haywire (sp?) and it isn't the only time that its happened.
Like I would be browsing the Market and get a text (which lagged in that the notification ring sounds a couple of seconds after the phone vibrates) and I press home to check my sms (via chompsms because of the sms bug) and once again, my phone freaks out (not as badly as how I mentioned before, but still annoying.
Overall, I just don't think the Hero is doing a very good job at multitasking (my Hero at least). But i thought the Hero was supppsed to be a multitasking phone, no? What's the dealio?
PS: This took me FOREVER to type on the Hero because of its crazy keyboard lag when using it in the browser (even with haptic feedback off)
