Android :: How Can I Have A Floating Image With Text?
Jun 7, 2010
It's kind of hard to explain, but an example of what I'm wanting to accomplish is like this: thought about generating the layout in html and using a web view, but I need to be able to perform an action when the user clicks on the image. Does anyone have any ideas?

So I'm looking for an app, much in line with overskreen, or air terminal in it's execution, but all it needs to do is let me take notes in it, a tabbed interface would be great, and ability to save would also be great, but honestly I don't even need that. Just need a simple floating window that allows me to type some quick notes in it. Or paste some text in there so I can view it from another app.
I could probably use overskreen for this, but it just seems like overkill to have a floating browser as a text pad. I didn't find any on the Store, but I did find an app called "Floating Widgets" ( or something very similar to that name ) which basically allows you to take most widgets and make them 'stay on top' ( ie. float ). This would work great I'm thinking with a note widget for memos. The only problem is all the memo widgets I saw and tried( free ones anyways ) didn't seem to allow direct typing in the widget, they opened some kind of editor and then saved to the widget when you exited. This defeats the reason of having a floating memo widget lol.
An existing widget that does this, floats, etc... B.) A normal widget that allows direct typing in the widget itself instead of opening some kind of proxy app? or C.) Some other solution other than using a browser?

I saw a post on here the other day about the screen orientation from landscape to portrait. This app which is free from the market, is unbelievable. Rotating the phone is super quick, with no lag like the normal rotation. Will the rotation be more like it is on floating image with 2.1? Or can Dev's take anything from this app and make the rotation orientation better for normal use on the hero?

Is there a way to create Buttons that contain both an Image and Text (image on top text below or image left and text right)? And how can this be done within a xml layout file? For example, the application 'Pkt Auctions eBay' (see Android Market) has these type of buttons. So far I have tried and googled all over and found nothing on the matter. Help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A 'Button' view comes up with text, while the 'ImageButton' widget comes up with an image but no text, is there a way to relatively easily (e.g. method calls, say), either:
1. Add text to ImageButton (like those buttons that appear in menu item/via the physical menu button)?
2. Add an icon/image to a Button?
without resorting to constructing a new button class? I.e. I could put text within the image, but then I can't use Localization properly/effectively.

I'm trying to have an image (as the background) on a button and add dynamically, depending on what's happening during run-time, some text above/over the image. If I use ImageButton I don't even have the possibility to add text. If I use Button I can add text but only define an image with android: drawableBottom and similar XML attributes as defined here.
However these attributes only combine text & image in x- and y-dimensions, meaning I can draw an image around my text, but not below/under my text (with the z-axis defined as coming out of the display). One idea would be to either extend Button or ImageButton and override the draw()-method. But with my current level of knowledge I don't really know how to do this (2D rendering). Maybe someone with more experience knows a solution or at least some pointers to start?

My app shows a list of items, where each line is an item title with its image asides, the line reserves 70% of space for text and 30% for image. Imagine what iphone app store looks like. Which view/layout combo is recommended for this purpose? I googled and find this article

Can you please tell me if there is a way to layout textaround an image?I have gotten a response from an android developer about this question. But I am not sure what he means by doing my own version of TextView? Thank for any tips. This is not possible using only the supplied widgets and layouts. could write your own version of TextView to do this, it shouldn't be hard.

I have a situation where I am using a TextView with an image and would like to set a background on just the text part. When I use android:background it sets the background behind both the text and the image. Is there a way to have it just put the background behind the text without me having to tear apart my layout and use a separate ImageView with the TextView?

I wish to make a scrolling interface. The screen is populated with images in the left one fourth and corresponding text for an image in the remaining three fourth. There will be n number of image-text on the screen and hence should be scrollable. Also image-text when clicked takes you to a new screen. I seem to be stuck and cant think about which layout should I choose. I am a beginner in Android Developing.

I am having an EditText. If i specify image for the EditText in the layout XML file (android:back ground) it looks different and looks different when i specify it at runtime EditText et = (EditText)find ViewById (R.drawable .et1) ; et.setBackgroundDrawable (Main.themes.getDrawable (EDRAWABLES.EditText BackgroundImage )); Both codes point to the same image. When i specify the image at runtime , the EditText leaves a margin at the top and bottom of the cursor in the edittext which does not happen when i do it in XML. I have attached the screenshots of both images. Top image is the one drawn from XML and bottom one is given at runtime. I am not getting the difference ? Actually i am facing similar problems with other Widgets too if i change the logic of specifying the drawable at runtime and not at compile time.. Is this the default SDK behaviour? I'm developing an application which has an listview. I'm currently creating the list item view dynamically from code (linearlayout, which includes 2 textviews and 1 imageview), but i'd like to use an XML resource for this. I read it is resource intensive when getting this view using findViewById within a loop. I thought of using a custom adapter for this, but am not sure on how to include lazy loading of the image then.

It seems like the best way to create a horizontal scrolling list of images is to use the Gallery widget. I need to display sidebar text with each image. The examples I have seen showing how to use the Gallery widget only show images. Is it possible to display a list of images+text descriptions in a Gallery, and if it is, does anyone have an example of how to do this?

I use http://stackoverflow.com/questions/541966/android-how-do-i-do-a-lazy-load-of-images-in-listview/3068012#3068012 to load images in a ListView and a GridView. It works but the images are loaded form bpttom to top. How to fix that?
Bonus Question: Can I use a loading animation in a image view while the real image is loaded? Right now it's just a default image.

I want to scale and display images which are dynamically loaded to a certain maximum size. The way I'm doing this is to set the layout_width and layout_height of my ImageView to the maximum dimensions and setting the scaleType to "fitCenter".
But here's the problem. This is inside a RelativeLayout and I want to show text directly under the image. In portrait mode, the text is way at the bottom (because of the height I have set). So I want the ImageView to scale down to the actual visible image size which is what it would seem like adjustViewBounds="true" should do.
Am I wrong in this assumption? Or is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do? Because I've been unsuccessful to this point!
