Me and my brother both just imported new phone, me the milstone and him the nexus. Im pretty new to android, but isn't 2.0 and 2.0.1 supposed to have speech to text? I installed text to speech and it works, but when i go to run something that uses stt (like in handcent) it just says "rencognizer not present." Any help? tts and stt would be awesome for sneak texting

I have a unlocked unbranded brand new milestone I got couple days ago and it came with 2.0 firmware.So it installed no problems but compared to my nephews droid 2.1 from verizon his has the live wallpaper like mine does, but on his when you hit the screen of the live wallpaper you see the ripple effect but on my I dont.
Also Mines missing the speecn to text also, I dotn see a microphone icon in the virtual keyboard when in a text field, also when he holds the search button at the bottom a speak now command comes up for you to say something, anyone know why Im missing these?
I would like to be able to say an email or text message to myself or my wife sometimes. When I hold down the input field I get an input choice menu but the only option there is the Android Keyboard.Am I doing it wrong?What am I missing? I would also like to have it read emails to me, and word docs (or just .txt).I have a Kindle but my phone is a little more convenient for something I would rather read in bits and pieces while walking to and fro the car or whatever.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I both got Milestones about a month ago. So far so good; we're trying to keep up with the kids on technology. Anyways, we discovered we're unable to receive texts with pics, but are able to send them to iphones users (who can receive them). I asked about it at the Telus store, thinking it was a setting or something, and she said "smart phones can't receive pics by text, you have to email them". Doesn't really sound right... The choice to send a pic by text is an option in the menus, and it seems from reading the forums here that at least in the US, it's possible with the droid. So is this a Telus issue? No big deal, we're just wondering what's up. Even our daughter with a non-smart phone can send/receive pics by text.

When i tap the microphone icon i get a message "your phone does not have speech recognition ENGINE and recgoinzer not found". I cant not find any apps to redownload this. Any ways to fix it? FIXED... reinstalled the rom and now it came back. go figure
I know the INC has stated this is one of its features, does the Droid X also have it? I have an INC on order, but am switching over to a Droid X ( confirmed no re-stocking fee btw on INC-DX ) ASAP. I've just been checking out everything the INC has comparing it to the DX and didn't know if speech to text was part of the UI Sense or Android itself, coming from a RIM customer this is all greek to me - so far

"It seems that speech recognizer is not available on your android device. You can still use the application by typing your text in the first text box and then press Translate."
I have downloaded all the text to speech packs I can think that would be relevant, namely:
SpeechSynthesis Data Installer
Text-To-Speech Extended
...and yet it still doesn't work.
How do I do a capital letter in text to speech on my droid x? I can get a question mark or period at the end but CAPS man I need CAPS..

This forces me to zig-zag right and left to read text on a page, rendering the web browser near unusable. I've tried chaning the text size or default zoom levels but nothing works: it's like viewing an image version of the webpage.Is this bug particular to the Milestone?

In iOS you can turn on Accessibility function that add the "Speak" button to the "selection menu". And if you click, it would turn on Text To Speech engine and read selected text. Can I do the same thing in Android ?
PS: I assume that regular app could not modify "copy, paste, cut menu" so I probably need custom ROM. (I'm particularly interested Nexus 7 2013 solution, but I assume that solution should be universal because it is just modification to the "Selection menu" and add button)
I am using Motorola Milestone UK version with AT & T. G Mail and Yahoo etc work fine. Data plan also work perfect wih At&T 2G. AT&T 3 G can not use with Milestone because 3 G band of AT & T is not supoerted by Milestone.
However, real problem is that when I call anybody, he always finds my voice breaks on Milestone. When I switch to speaker they find my voice perfect. I can hear their voice clearly. Any body has same problem.
Secondly, I would like to dowload "Car Home" app which is available with Droid. It is not available in Market place. When I try to see how it is intsalled in my friend's droid, it shows 0 KB. Does this app is part of Android for Verizon. When I dock the phone in Car dock, as I dont have Car home app so phone does not pop up Navigation window which is part of Car Home. I can use Google Map manually. This is not big problem.
