Can I change the contrast on the htc evo? Is there an app that allows this? I am trying to accommodate a more vivid picture. I'm referring to the overall contrast of the phone, not the pictures.

I have looked around different forums hoping to find an app or setting info which allows to modify the screen color, contrast and Gamma . I haven't been able to find any .
I have a Vega Tegra2 replica which has high screen brightness ( faded black colors ) and I am running Vegacomb 8.1 on it.
if such an app or modification exists?

I recently got the M8 upgrading from the Galaxy Nexus. I am a design student, and I HATE, I mean HATE the current clock set up with that damn weather icon and how it all looks uneven. Are there any widgets/apps or anything which I can change this?
On my galaxy: [URL]
On my one: [URL]
Is there anyway I can change my current clock or SOMETHING. I do know that I can add a new widget page and have a new clock, but I can't make this my default lockscreen. Sliding across on the lockscreen seems pointless to me - i want this visible when i double tap my phone.

I figured out the method to shifting through the contacts contract but now get a weird error on the intent. I think I have the right manifest.
@Override // the class that is called every time the user clicks something
protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id);
// the reflections of a applications intent to perform some activity
// in this case a call action to dial the phone
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL);
// cursor of the selection Cursor c = (Cursor) mAdapter.getItem(position);
// get some info from the cursor
String contactId = c.getString(c.getColumnIndex(Contacts._ID));
String IsPhone = c.getString(c.getColumnIndex(Contacts.HAS_PHONE_NUMBER));
//if the selection has phone numbers if (Integer.parseInt(IsPhone)> 0) {
Cursor phones = getContentResolver().query(Phone.CONTENT_URI, null, Phone.CONTACT_ID + "=" + contactId, null, null);
while (phones.moveToNext()) { String strPhoneNumber = phones.getString(phones.getColumnIndex(Phone.NUMBER)); System.out.println(strPhoneNumber);
i.setData(Phone.CONTENT_URI);
} } //i.setData(strPhoneNumber);
// Causes the dialer to appear on the screen and initiate the phone call //startActivity(i);

I've been running NovaLauncher on my Nexus for a long time and love it, so when I got my Nook HD+ the first thing I did was load up NovaLauncher. I love it on the tablet, too, but when going into settings the right pane for settings has a tan/gray background with white lettering and I can't read the fine print. How to change the background color?

Is there a way to change the default download directory for anything I download such as attachments, pdfs, etc? Android 4.4.2. Seemingly simple thing but I couldn't find it.
Is there a geeky user manual for Kit Kat?

When I go to change or assign a contact photo, I'm prompted like always to crop the photo I've selected. Once the crop is made and I hit done, an error message at the bottom is posted. "Edited photo can't be saved" and the photo is not assigned. This is something new that has just developed recently and seems to be specific to 4.4.2 on my 2 different Nexus devices.The only work around is to change the photo through gmail on my PC.

First, make sure your SDK Tools are up to date. Otherwise, this won't work.Plug in your phone, then open up a command line. You initiate the recording with a simple adb instruction, but it actually saves on the phone.
The basic command you need is this:
Code: adb shell screenrecord /sdcard/yourfilename.mp4 You can name it whatever you want (within the usual limitations), and save it wherever you want on your device. (I'm lazy, so I've just been saving to /sdcard.)
When you're done, just copy the file to a computer or wherever.
Also note the arguments in the image above — particularly the one about bit rate. By default, it records at 4Mbps, which I've found to be inadequate, so I've been doubling that. So the command I've been using is: Code: adb shell screenrecord --bit-rate 8000000 /sdcard/yourfilename.mp4 (And, yes. The listing suggests setting the option in Mbps, but you actually have to do some math and use bps.

New to Android moving from the iProduct line of goods. What I can add to the locked home screen to display: Missed call, Text received, Email received. I think I need to add a widget or do I add an app which automatically adds any widget available on the widget menu?
Is there one current good app or widget that will do all the above.

This may be an Android 4.4 or Nexus 4 problem, but I suspect the former. I encrypted the device (using the in-built encryption stuff) and have found that now the touchscreen will only register if another part of it is touched. For example, when entering my PIN once I get into the OS itself, I have to hold down a finger somewhere else on the screen (usually having to move it between some of the later numbers).
When it comes to multi-touch features (zooming etc.), these work fine but still require another finger held down somewhere to work.
This is definitely a software problem as the touchscreen works fine when putting in the password to decrypt storage.
Is this supposed to happen - part of the encryption process - or is this a bug?

I don't have my phone encrypted but I always have it password protected. I updated my Droid RAZR MAXX HD to KitKat 4.4.2 and discovered Swype was no longer bundled with Android. Straight to the PlayStore to get Google Keyboard (aka the old familiar Swype but significantly upgraded). As I had configured previously before the KitKat update, I had Swype as my default keyboard and all other keyboards disabled. So I went to settings disabled the default keyboard and enabled Google Keyboard and Voice Input. Later I went to use my phone and was presented with the expected login screen but saw a spinning red microphone with "Speak Now" and "Waiting for results". No keyboard. Tapping on the red microphone did nothing. Calling the Droid from another phone allowed a keyboard icon to appear to the left but tapping it did nothing (since it was disabled).
It appeared to me after research for several hours most people had not disabled their Default Keyboard and could recover from this. Since I had disabled mine, I have concluded that mine was bricked and left with only a factory reset.
In conclusion, Google Keyboard still has some bugs if it can't handle the login screen. This seems like a precondition to releasing this keyboard software to the community.

I finally updated my nexus after seeing it in my notification column. All seemed okay so let it get on with it.But when I thought it was ready I cannot get further than the four moving coloured circles. I have tried to factory reset and delete cache but has made no changes. I have been in contact with google play who now say there is no more actions that can be done so will need replacement.

HTC One (2013) running 4.4.2 from Verizon. When I open a picture attachment that someone sends me in Gmail, a black screen comes up and the picture is not visible. If I hit back button, and then re-open the picture attachment, it will show it in full screen. Seems like an odd bug, how do I get it to show when I click it the first time?

just wondering if there was any way to set per-app preferences for a secure lock screen with a pin entry. For example, i don't care if my google-music lock screen widget works while the phone is locked (and having to enter my pin every time I want to go forward or back a song sucks. That's just an example? Root-only options are welcome as well.
