Where does the installation files over sync store in phone memory,after some time it has a notification low phone memory,where i can find and delete these files?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, though I've seen people post about the problem with other devices, so I think this is an "Android" problem.
I just got the tablet about a week ago, but this is by no means my first tablet, or Android device. I don't want to root or anything -- I'm happy with the stock device, along with the apps I install and the files I download to it. I've got a 64GB microSD card (also Samsung brand), formatted as FAT32, and it works just fine.
So, I was filling the tablet up with media files, and I was downloading video files to it. It has 16GB of internal memory, and I figured I would fill up a bit more than half of that with some of my bigger video files. I downloaded a few files, then figured I could download a bit more, and downloaded a couple more. Then I looked at the free memory, and it was down to 3GB free -- "whoops, too much." So, I deleted the two files, which were about 3GB together. AND THE FREE MEMORY DIDN'T INCREASE ONE BIT.
And I've been trying to "get my memory back," ever since. So, here are a couple of screen shots I can show you:
First up is the usual Storage view:
OK, so what the heck is that 3.36GB in "Miscellaneous files?" That's roughly the size of the two files I deleted, so let's go in and take a closer look:
So, it's in the "System memory" up at the top. So, what is "System memory," and what could be taking up that kind of space? Some kind of "cache" that kept the two files I deleted in memory, perhaps?
So, from here, it's pretty simple: What is in that "System memory," and how do I clear it out?
It's NOT any "application cache" -- I've used apps that clean out the application cache, but they didn't touch this "System memory."
I've tried the "Wipe cache partition" from the recovery menu, and that didn't touch this "System memory."
I sure haven't seen any apps that can do it.
Or, is having a big wad of whatever in the "System memory" pretty typical, and thus it doesn't have anything to do with the fact I deleted those files and the free memory didn't increase? I doubt that, because I've seen quite a few screen shots of the Miscellaneous files screens that other folks have posted, and I have NEVER seen a "System memory" item at the top like I have.
At this point, I'm expecting that I'm going to have to do a full reset to the factory build, just to free up this big wad of unused memory. Of course, I would rather not do that, but if I'm going to do it, it would be "better sooner than later."
I'm searching app for wiping (not just delete) files and free space for Android.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried a lot of custom Roms. I'm on Neat ROM Lite now. Not sure which ROM changed my file access permission settings to cause this problem but I'm not able to delete any files from my external memory card. I was able to delete when I was on stock rom. The other problem is for a few apps I get an error message which says can't install on usb/sd card. I have posted this in another thread some time back but got no response.
This is what my file permission looks like.
I am able to delete when my fone is connected to PC via USB. So I don't think it has anything to do with a faulty sd card.
When I drag it over to the card it goes on but then I can't find it on my phone. Do I need an app or something or a program to do it.

Is there cache I can clear or something? My girlfriend also has Tatoo and it is showing her correct amount(120mb/165mb free).
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Galaxy I7500 using android 1.5. I extended my phone with a 16GB microSD. I copied a big music collection (around 800 files) into a folder on this SD. Now the problem is that the music player can't find all the files.
I know that there are several threads about android not finding music. The answers are usually that the library hasn't yet been updated or that the ID3 tags are not correct.
I have checked both.
Btw. I can play the files using ASTRO.
In my opinion it seems as if android can't build up a library with too many entries. If I rename the files or put them into different folders, songs disappear and reappear quite randomly.
Do you have any solutions? Is there a music player which doesn't use the native music players index of files?
I have only recently got my htc tatto and already my phone memory is very low only 32mb, i have also got an sd card with 7gb free. Are the apps that i have downloaded go on my phone memory, if so how do save them to my sd card? Also any other tips to save the memory?

Do I extract them first to my computer and then put it on the sd card, and where do I put the files in the sd card. Have tried all the files but do not see the application on my phone. I even tried HTC sync but with no success. I am new to the android phone, before that I was a Nokia and Sony Ericsson fan, but got convinced to get a HTC from my brother in law. His got the HTC HD and loves it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI uploaded about 50 pictures from iPhoto (using a Mac) just to see what they looked like and then later formatted the Droid's SD card, so the pictures were no longer there.
Now, if I mount the Droid via USB and view the file structure there is a folder named /albumthumbs which contains 50 files, presumably for the 50 pictures a had on the SD card.
To me, these file, unless linking to actual photos stored on the SD card, take up extra space in the phone's memory (not worried about the SD card). I wonder if I can safely delete them (just the files...not the folder)?
well one my friend have problem with his HTC Tattoo while he was trying to delete a font from font folder he accidentally deleted the FONT FOLDER now his phone is not working. Is there anyway to fix this problem ?

my newly bought Tattoo became unbootable a few days ago.It worked perfectly fine two days ago, then it started to randomly reboot itself, but after that, it became completely unbootable, as in, it was stuck at the "TATTOO" screen. The phone internals are completely untouched, no custom images, not rooted, no nothing, it's factory fresh.The battery is full too, and I didn't install anything that could possibly have corrupted the bootloader (or whatever is failing to load).I already tried to wipe the user data _TWICE_ (using HOME + BACK + POWER) with no success. I'm also perfectly able to get into HBOOT (using VOLDOWN + MENU + POWER), and connect via usb (using "FASTBOOT USB" from HBOOT). However, I can't completely wipe the cache with fastboot.exe from the android-sdk, since it doesn't allow it: "erasing 'cache'... FAILED (remote: not allow)".

View 18 Replies View RelatedSo I got a replacement for my Milestone yesterday, I logged to my google account, went to the Market->Downloads, and I only found my purchased apps nothing of my free apps.I did a backup applications with astro on my old phone, then restore apps on the new one, but that doesn't give access to the updates. im not sure if this is a repost or if everyone already knows this but this is a very awesome tip. when i hard reset the phone and went to the market, i clicked "my downloads" and my apps that i had b4 were all listed and they said "free", (which meant i had to redownload). so it keeps your history according to your intial google sign in on the phone. ive hard reset bout 3 times just so i lower my market "MB". im at 3mb on my market and 50mb free of memory. i also have 67 apps installed. i highly recommend to hard reset your phone every now and then. it gives you so much more memory when you go and reinstall all your previous apps from "my downloads" section of the market. plus your contacts all sync to your gmail so you dont even have to worry bout losing any contacts. trust me, it really makes a difference in performance after the phone frees up that much memory. b4 i first did it i had like 27mb in my market and like 45 apps with 10mb of free mem on my phone. man did that suck. every time you go in the market or even when you uninstall an app it will still be eating your memory. try it out and leave some feed back. its really harmless. the only thing is that you will have to set your settings on some apps to how it was pre hard reset. for example, missed call, scoreboard, weather channel, and more. but its really worth it.

I know I can use the Market to delete Apps and I can use the stock Froyo Manage Applications to remove Apps, but I feel that files I download to my phone are going to my internal memory rather then my SD memory. all the help!
