View 4 Replies View RelatedMy .mail folder contains a bunch of files I can't identify what they are or what they are used for. I have moved ALL THE FILES AND TOKENS to a temp directory and my Here seems to be working fine with the .mail folder empty. I think these files have something to do with email I receive and delete. Has anyone ever cleared out this directory to conserve storage space? Are these useless files and can be deleted?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there any function or even app on the phone that will tell me how much free space I have for apps on the phone? The "free space" number that is in ABout Phone, or in many many system tools type apps is misleading, because that is a combination of the app space and the working memory space. Since Linux loads that up to be more efficient, it will almost always show some relatively low number (30-40MB in my case) as long as the phone has been turned on for some time. In reality, I only have 35MB of apps installed on my phone, so I have plenty of room, it is just hard to tell. So far, the only place I can find that info is on the web-based side of appbrain. Is there any on-phone location where I would be able to get that info? (Short of actually adding up all my apps' sizes by hand?)
View 5 Replies View RelatedHave the warning message "phone storage space getting low"
Have 11G of 14 on SD card, but only 25MB free on internal phone storage.
Just got a text message that wouldnt come thru, and it said 'no text message space left'.
Just uninstalled somethings that were 10MB, now giving me 35MB free but
I keep getting texts, the phone vibrates , which it wasn't set to do, and says 'text memory full'. I am assuming it is vibrating to give me a warning.
Can I clear some of the text memory, or must I clear all of it. And if so for either, how do I do this.
I have moved apps to sd card that makes sense.
How can I free up more space.
I have like 640mbs available for memory, however when I try to check my messages I am getting an error message that my phone memory is full and that I need to delete some files, but I really don't anything on there.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just recieved a notification a few days ago saying the phone storage space is getting low. I don't understand why this notification has come up. I cleared all of the cache from the applications and it still remains. I have a decent amount of apps downloaded but I used to have a lot more downloaded and never had this problem before.

any ideas?
I have a Galaxy S3, and I noticed that my thumbnails cache was absolutely massive. It grew to 9.6 GB in size. Using Root Explorer, I deleted the .thumbdata3 file and replaced it with a blank file. I noticed that my free space remained 550 MB. I rebooted the device, and it was still reporting only 550 MB free, but there is no sign of the 9.6 GB file anymore. The new .thumbdata3 file reports that it is 0 kb. Next, I tried deleting the .thumbnails folder entirely, thinking maybe the old file was still there someplace. I created a new .thumbnails folder, and created a new .thumbdata3 folder inside of it. After deleting the 9.6 GB thumb file, and the approximately 750 MB worth of photos that were in .thumbnails, my device still shows that only 550 MB is free.
How can this be? I searched the entire device using Root Explorer for any files or folders containing ".thumb," and the 9.6 GB file is definitely gone.
My device details:

How to stop phone from displaying "low storage, uninstall apps to free storage. "
View 3 Replies View RelatedGood morning all, I'm new to the forums, android and smart phones in general so please bare with me. I've been lurking for the last two months and following some real solid threads (mostly stuff on task killers and 2.1 updates,) and trying to take the great advice that I see on here. I'm by no means a power user (I don't even use social networking of any kind, mostly using music apps like pandora and last.fm) so the notification that I received this morning kinda threw me for a loop. I got the low on space/no more storage for sms/mms notifications. I guess my first boneheaded question..what the heck is an sms/mms. Second, what can I do about this?
I stopped running a task killer based on the topics I've read about it and I've been hitting the back key to get out of everything. I checked the internal phone storage (368k available, was 0 but I removed a sound board app). I've also gone through settings> apps> manage apps to see if anything was hogging up internal storage and everything seemed to be closed (mail aside). HTC Mail does seem to come up first when I sort things by size and its the only one that gives me the option to force stop. Other then that, the only performance issues I've noticed recently (esp since I stopped using the taskkiller) is the menu key seems to lag a moment before it registers and the phone key does the same. I wouldn't say my phone is screamingly fast but it gets the job done for the most part. Anyone have any thoughts on what I should do?
I just put xtrROM 4.0.6.1 on my Eris and now I'm getting the "low space" notification. It says that I have 7mb left on my phone. I have 3.5 gb on my SD card. I had 4.0.4 on previously with the cache and apps on the SD card I had 4.5gb left before I did the wipe and install. After I reinstalled my apps using Titanium Backup, I started getting the notification. I can't figure out why I'm getting it though. It almost appears like the apps may have gotten installed on the internal memory on the reinstall.I first saved my SD card contents to my PC, did an SD card wipe, repartition, and made it ext3, then copied all data back. I tried running the apps2sd script via GScript and I get the following errors: stderr : sys : not found stderr: cannot create /system/etc/usersettings/conf/apps2sd_value: read-only filesystem Market apps (.apk files) will be moved to the sd card, reboot phone for changes to take effect.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt'd be convenient if an application I'm writing stored some files to external storage permanently (so they persist after the application has been exited[destroyed]), but on an uninstall I'd like to do the decent thing and have these files removed to free up the storage.
Is there any way I can have these files removed on an uninstall?
If there isn't (and I'm skeptical), then I'll have to create these files each time. I'm trying to save start-up time and also occupy required space by having them exist permanently.
Note: I need to use external storage, so both internal storage or a DB would be inappropriate.
I am getting 2 notifications: "phone storage space is getting low" and "phone storage is running low". When I click on either notification I get a list of apps. What am I supposed to do? Why is this happening?
View 28 Replies View RelatedHad my Samsung Moment for about a month. LOVE IT. Few issues (same as everyone else has noticed), but nothing terrible. Until: Randomly today TWO Notifications popped up that said "Low on space Phone storage space is getting low." One was what seemed to be from the "hardware" and the other was from the "Work Mail" app (which I don't use, haven't used, haven't even opened). When I click it, it takes me to the Manager screen. So, I began uninstalling some apps I don't really use (I didn't have that many anyway...a couple of games [Solitaire, etc], Facebook, Notes). It started running really slowly and random Force Close messages would appear for things like android.process, messaging--things that have never Force Closed before. I turned it off (pressed and held the red button), waited a few seconds, then turned it back on again. Immediately after the "Sprint" logo lights show finished, I got another Force Close message. When the Home Screen showed up, I had the two notifications again "Low on space". When I cleared the notifications, only the "Work Mail" one would clear. I went through and deleted some more apps that I don't use. Got on my computer & Googled the issue. Found a couple of random forums that suggested cleaning out the Cache in the Browser. I did that. Cleaned the History & Cookies in the Browser, too. Then, I did a soft reset (took out the battery). Started it up again, SAME notifications. Less Force Close messages. But, it's running VERY slowly.
After a few hours, I noticed that I hadn't received any text messages or Gmail notifications. I had my sister text me about 2 hours ago. Still have not received it.
I really don't want to hard reset. I haven't synced my contacts (I have over 400 & the Sprint store had trouble moving them from my Centro to the Moment) to Google yet, nor have I hooked my Moment up to my Mac yet (the Sprint guys had no idea if it would work or not with Snow Leopard & I hadn't had time to check yet) and I'm worried to try it now that my Moment has gone crazy...I really don't want to lose 400 contacts.I don't download a lot of apps. Most are reputable (Pandora, MotherTED, Shazam, Movies, Jewels). The last one I remember downloading was Google Voice three days ago (which I haven't really used because I've had the flu). I don't know if this is a Malware/Virus issue or if I'm just an idiot & did something wrong. But, it's running REALLY slowly right now. Still not receiving texts or emails (though my Twitter app has notified me of a couple of @ replies).I'm going to call Sprint & Samsung tomorrow, then go to a Sprint tech store if they can't help. But, I'm just hoping one of you have come across this & can help before I have to deal with hours of hold music & techies who tell me to soft reset over & over again.
BTW:
After awhile, I finally checked the storage space:
External SD care: Total: 1.89; Available: 1.85
Internal: About 2 hours ago when I first checked, after I had deleted a bunch of apps it said I had 7.something MB, now (after not downloading ANYTHING or barely even TOUCHING the damn thing) it says 1.95MB. Which leads me to believe that the 7.whatever was not necessarily accurate.
Without going crazy, I've searched the forums and haven't found many topics to address this. Apologies in advance if such topics, in face, exist.I've had my Eris for nine months, and I've never really messed with the Gmail app/storage settings much. But I'm noticing that it's taking up around 50MB of storage on the phone. I have it set to sync 2 days. I have five labels that get synced. My Inbox, and one other label, are set to "Sync all;" the other three labels are set to "Sync 2 days."Any time I try to change the settings or how many days to sync (like changing everything to 2 days, or 1 day), it winds up eating more of my phone's internal storage, but for an app to use a third of the total storage seems a bit extreme to me. My Gmail app is showing 332KB, of which, 52KB is data and 280KB is the app. There is no option to clear the cache. I can Manage Space or Clear Data, though. My Gmail storage is showing 49.89MB, of which, 276KB is the application. There is no option to clear the cache or manage space, only clear the data. Also, while I'm on the topic, is there any reason for the discrepancy between how much space the Market says a given app occupies, versus what the phone says? Example: The Market says Maps uses 4MB, or so. My phone shows it occupying twice that much space. Facebook is allegedly 1.5MB in size, but it takes up four times as much space on the phone. There is no cache to clear, and I have everything disabled that can be disabled. What's using up so much space in these apps?

View 21 Replies View RelatedThis message keeps freezing my phones ability to send and receive texts. I've deleted threads, unused apps and pictures and files. This is frustrating me to no end! The internal storage is nearly full, but the Ram has tons of space. I have moved everything to SD that can be moved, cleared cache and have an app for doing this autimatically. I've read up a bit on rooting and don't believe that is for me as I'm an amatuer.
How can I fix this and why do I have so much RAM,but no internal memory?
when my phone gets down to like 17 megs free on the internal storage, I get the little icon in the corner telling me I'm low on space.
When that happens, I also start getting errors when I try to send a text or open my browser that say "Not enough phone storage space". This then completely prevents me from using the browser or sending a text message.
What the heck is up with that? 17 megs is a huge amount of space to be free. Why would that prevent me from using my phone? Is there something I can do to fix that or change when it thinks I'm low? I have to keep uninstalling things just to get my phone to work. I've moved everything I can over to the SD card but it hasn't worked. I just don't get why things would stop working when I still have 15+ megs free.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering though how people handle being so close to the limit. My problems seem to come when I update my apps. Despite no reason for space increase when I update them I regularly lose space. Today I update a couple of apps and it pushed me over the limit, so I had to go in a find a few I don't use and remove them. That left me with supposed about 15.5mb left, but now it's gone down to 14.95, despite no apps being added, so I can see a warning coming soon. One thing I have noticed is that for some apps removing them completely, and then added them back again seems to gain you some space.
It unfortunately is just blind luck in finding ones that will happen for, or at least it seems to be so to me. Also very annoying is that the space you clear by deleting apps doesn't seem to correspond with what you get back. I just cleared supposedly 1.5mb of cache from the web browser, yet I only got 500kb of space back? Obviously I've been through all the apps and looked for any that I can clear the cache for. One thing I would like to know is why the low space warning has to come at ~15mb? Seems to be I've always got that space just wasted, which is a pain as there are plenty of 200-300kb apps I could add, using just 5mb of the space.
I keep getting the little notification that my phone storage space is getting low, but when I go into Settings > SD card & phone storage, the SD card, internal phone storage, and phone memory are all well above critical levels (they're all like 70-90% free space). What could be the issue?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed a bunch of apps and I think the EVO has 1gb of space. Just wondering if that's enough available for me to do other things. I want to leave a "buffer" just in case. I'm currently using the Sandisk 8GB MicroSD Class 2 that came with the phone and when I was looking at selling my Touch Pro 2, it turns out that I have a Class 6 Transcend 8gb MicroSD card. I want to switch them out, if I just copy everything from the Sandisk to the Transcend, will that be ok? Or do apps/Android write the data a certain way that I'll have to re-do things again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Incredible. It has 8GB of internal storage and I've installed an 8GB microSD card. When I plug the thing in via USB, I have two drives that appear on Windows. One shows total capacity of 6.59GB and the other is 7.39GB. I guess my question is: I think I understand that the 7.39GB one is the microSD card. It's getting full. It appears that everything gets stored there. My question is, why do I have a 6.59GB drive available that never seems to get used? Is the purpose to manually put MP3s and such on this instead of the microSD card? With 2.2 (SkyRaider ROM), can I move apps to this internal storage?
