HTC Hero : Way To Sync Phone With Computer?
Oct 9, 2010I just bought my HTC Hero a few days ago and just found this forum as well. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to sync my phone to my computer. I didn't get any CD with it. I am also wondering if I hard reset my phone back to factory default, will all the apps, etc that were there out of the box, still be there? If I can sync with my computer, can I put my contacts back on from my computer? And, finally, there is a "notice" type "bell" sound every so often on my phone, but I have checked messages and phone calls as well as email, plus there are no notifications at top...what might it be? Thanks for your help. Hope I haven't posted something that has been talked about a million times before.

Jul 28, 2010I have an urgent problem with my desire and would appreciate any help. My desire is not detecting my computer when I connect the USB, I connect it and it begins charging instead of asking me about the connection type. As I was puzzled and thought this was very strange, I checked the "connect to PC" settings only to find out the "ask me" option was indeed enabled . When I connect the USB to the computer it begins charging and displays "USB" on battery status, but it does not actually detect the computer, nor does the computer detect the phone (even when I change the default connection type to "disk drive" it continues on charge mode). Has anyone any clue as to what is wrong with my desire? I am very confused because as I said, I select the "ask me" option but it does not "ask me", I really want to fix this as it means I cannot sync music onto it, any ideas?

When I had my droid I just plugged it in and the droid said " do you want to sync" and I choose yes and I could go into "my computer" and into my phones files to drag and drop files etc, this phone is not giving me that option.
Secondly how much memory should be available under phone memory? Mines has 701mbs available but nothing saved to the 16gb card I have. How do I move things currently saved to the phone under the memory card?
Sprint Hero :: HTC Sync - Phone Can't Find It On Computer / Solution For This?
Dec 20, 2009Is anyone having issues with HTC Sync and the phone not being able to find it on the computer? I've used it before, but today it doesn't want to find it on my computer. I uninstalled sync from the computer, and reinstalled it, even tried a hard reset on my phone, still no go.
Any ideas? Or am I just an idiot and doing something wrong?

May 10, 2010I've been trying to sync my phone with my work computer for the past several days with no luck. I was able to sync using HTC Sync when I first received the phone but now I can't even get it to enter USB Mode. I was using the usb cable that came with the phone when I initially sync'd it, but since then i have picked up an additional charger/usb cable from my local authorized verizon dealer and can only charge the phone when i plug in the phone to the computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling HTC Sync and then installed the latest version of HTC Sync with no luck. I'm thinking that it might be the usb cable that i'm using (since i was able to sync before), but not sure if its something else (lack of driver or something like that).

HTC Sync is def open and installed on my laptop. Any advice on what it could be? I've powercycled the phone and laptop. changed the usb port can't think of anything else.

May 8, 2010I successfully set up a couple of gmail accounts when I first got my phone and now wish to add a third. However the phone now says it is unable to establish a working data connection. This is definitely not the case. It comes up with this before checking the account credentials so it is not a password issue.

Its like "unable to start wifi" and after that i cant switch this process off, it shows "unable to turn wifi off". So to get rid of this i need to restart phone. So now i cant use wifi. I cant even turn off wifi notification, i don't see MAC address etc. Are there ways to fix that?

I only had one when I initially set up the phone and I added 2 yesterday.
The 2 new ones will not show up in the phone.

also, I subscribed to a read only one (canadian holidays) and it was on the phone right away.

Sep 9, 2010This is my first "smartphone" although I have used a corporate Blackberry and I have used a Palm for many years. I've had this phone for about a month now. While the hardware is ok, the software for critical functions (Calendar, Contacts, Notepad, and Music) absolutely sucks!
1. I do not want to use Google/Gmail for my calendar and contacts. I don't know about any of you, but I do not feel comfortable having my confidential contact and calendar information sitting on the internet in Google. The company I work for even has a block on Google contacts & Gmail because it is not secure and fraught with potential for virus. I want a way to sync calander, contacts and notepad directly from my PC to my phone. Unfortunately, this can't be done. I've tried Companion Link. Besides the fact that it cost $39, I can't even get it to work. This type of functionality should be a basic part of a smartphone. Iphones do it. Blackberry's do it. Palm Pre does it. Why not the Droid?
2. Music - I have been trying to figure out a way that music synced to the Droid will play in the proper order. The Droid will only play music in Alphabetical order. I can't find a way to play music in Track # order. I have been on the phone with Motorola for hours. Finally got to Level 2 tech support. They told me that it cannot be done. How stupid is this? Try listening to a Broadway Show album in alphabetical order! Right now I feel if you just want a fancy toy, buy a Droid. If you want a real "smartphone" look somewhere else.

The following message comes up on my phone regardless of which connection method I choose. "PC connection available only on idle screen. Close running applications". The only thing I have running that I know of is the "weather widget" which is part of beautiful widgets. Can I get a list of applications running on my phone somehow? Is there a way to turn the weather widget off? I am assumming that that is the problem. Jan 3, 2010Saw some discussion on this on the Hero forum here, and one mention on the HTC forum, but no conclusive answers. I cannot get HTC Sync to work on my computer. I am running XP SP3. I have downloaded the latest version of HTC Sync. I disable my anti-virus and firewall and install, and it reports it installs correctly, but that it will not run and it will not recognize the phone.
I read that it's a "known issue" with McAfee, but don't see a workaround or any detailed threads.Anyone running McAfee and get it to work?
