HTC Incredible :: How To Close Application From Active

Maybe others already know this or figured this out. Apparently our phones work a lot like a Blackberry. On a Blackberry if you hit the home key or end key to exit an app it will stay running. Same thing happens here. However, if you hit the return key to exit the app it will stop running.
I tested this out on my Incredible and it also works. I used Facebook and a couple other apps as examples. If I go in to the app and then leave the app by hitting the home key it stays as an Active backgrounded app. If I however use the return key to leave the app and return to my home screen then the app is listed as inactive cached. This could help a lot of people with battery life and sleep issues, but I'm not sure. I know the way Android works that background apps aren't supposed to really do anything There does appear to be a difference though. This also works on the Engadget app which I've heard people mention for not closing.

When i go into Setting > Applications > Manage Applications,The list of apps starts loading, after 5 seconds, it will force close:The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.Not sure what APP I installed that could of caused this.

I just got my phone a few hours ago. Been reading all about how to do things for weeks now. But I haven't been able to to figure out how to close the mail and messages apps that show up on 2 of my home screens. Please tell me I can do this and put them where ever I want and how do I close them?

I created an application which is asynchronously communicating with the server. When the application makes a server request a new dialog (activity) with "loading" notification is created. The main activity implements methods for handling server responses and I would like to close the foreground activity when the main activity receives the answer from the server.

So, my ROM comes preloaded with a root app that I've never heard of, and I want to use Superuser (and the Elite I paid for).
The bundled app came with a 'cleanup/uninstall' script, that I ran, that promised to remove itself and it's root-granting abilities.
Now, even though I've got Superuser (Elite) installed, apps are saying I don't have root.
How do I configure Android (or SU) to use SU as my root-granting application?

I have two activities running: MainActivity and ChildActivity. Whenever the user clicks in the button in MainActivity, the ChildActivity is launched. What I want to do is this:When the active activity is the ChildActivity and the user clicks the home button then relaunch the application (like opening from the beginning), I want to see the ChildActivity instead of MainActivity that is launched. However; This is happening only when the user clicks from recent activities window. (the window opened when you long press the home button).I had some suggestions actually work arounds and I tried to manipulate onStart, onRestart, onResume, onStop, onDestroy events. But, they didn't fully solve the problem. There should be a smart way out there.

I bought the Incredible. I love it so far. (I could do a very large review on it vs. an iphone 3g.However, I have found that my corporate email calendar is not syncing correctly. I am missing events! I have reinstalled the active sync account 3 times now and each time it resyncs different calendar items.I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if I am just doing something wrong.

We wanted to follow-up. By now, you should have noticed that the installs metrics for your applications have been restored. We identified the problem as occurring with application updates only, have made some changes recently that should resolve and prevent this problem. Please let us know if this error persists.
If we can assist you further, please let us know. In my case, things have not changed at all. Downloads are increasing (1550) and active installs stabilized at 29% (the value before the drop was 44/45%). So, indeed active installs are increasing again - 29% is stable since three weeks - but the original percentage was not restored. Now, I don't know what to think... Maybe the problem is not solved, maybe in my specific case the active installs really dropped for a while (but it's curious that it only happened for a while...). BTW, I didn't release any new upgrade since then (I have a new one almost ready, but I'm beyond schedule because of personal problems) - and maybe the count would fix itself with new upgrades...
What would you do now? Is there anybody else for which the problem was not solved?

While making an 8 hour trek to Chicago this weekend, I learned something horrible about my dearest Incredible. She overheats, BADLY when I have my GPS on. Three hours into my drive, my phone actually shut down. So I was curious if anyone had any pointers, or had this happen as well? I had my screen at MINIMAL brightness, had the GPS on and had screen on to follow along, was streaming music from pandora as well. All updates for email/twitter/fb or anything were turned off. Now I had the phone on my shifter console, where there was no sun. But it was on it's back, so on the assumption that it couldn't "breathe", I wedged the top against the opening to my CD player so it was tilted. So air could get to the back of the phone, STILL my status for my battery was "over heat." I had no case, or holder on, nor did I plug it in to charge.
After the phone shut down I took the back casing off, took the battery out, and let it sit on the floor and turned the A/C vents towards it. But really disappointed that my phone couldn't handle the trek. Anyone have any helpful tips about keeping their phone from overheating, or WHAT TO DO? Or if I damaged my phone? It overheated 3 times on my drive...and really disappointed I'm going to have to dust off my Garmin.

I am using active sync for Exchange, we are running Exchange 2003 SP2. When I attempt to go to the out of office on the phone it says the following: "Unable to get your Out of Office settings from the Exchange server right now. Please try again later." I've never seen it work & was wondering if anyone has the same issue or knows how to fix it.

I'm running the Lite official 2.2 ROM. I'm seeing a lot more BS running in the background than I used to on 2.1 (using System Panel Lite). Another thing I noticed is that no matter how I try to exit an app, none of them go inactive. They are all still listed as active. I'm not hitting "home" to back out, I'm actually hitting the back button. I didn't used to see this behavior on 2.1-1. If I backed out of an app (gmail, quadrant, youtube, etc) they went to "inactive".
Now all are listed as active I've had a ton of little quirks with this ROM but I've been working through it. It's almost totally up to what I want except the issues of stuff running I don't start ("Mail", BUA, etc) and stuff not going inactive when not in use. I don't use any ATKs or anything, since I know better. But I don't want to have to constantly kill un-needed apps in System Panel because they're not going inactive like they used to.

Picked up the Incredible the day it was release and have had no issues what so ever. I rooted the phone last night, and today Exchange Active Sync will not let my phone sleep. If I remove my Exchange account, or simply disable active sync, then the phone sleeps.

I am having a calendar problem Microsoft Exchange/Active Sync. Calendar items I enter in my Incredible show up on Outlook. Initially, my Outlook calendar items also showed up on my Incredible but those calendar items have now disappeared after about three days and any new calendar items entered in Outlook do not appear. Email works fine and contacts entered in either Outlook or the Incredible sync without a problem.

I searched the Activesync threads and haven't found this issue, hopefully someone can help me out. I have Activesync working fine, able to receive and send emails, have all of my contacts and calendar items. Works flawlessly, other than the Company Directory. When I search for someone in the Global Address List using the Online Directories and then Company Directory I get the person, their email, Company and Title but no phone numbers. I have used a couple of iPhones and they return all the info and accessing the OMA page and searching returns all the info. Any thoughts? I looked at the logs on the OMA sever (also our OWA server) and show no errors in the Event viewer or the IIS logs and VZW was completely useless.

I don't have headphones plugged in and I am getting the icon. And also sometimes getting headset as well and am not able to get or make phone calls when this is active. I have to phone off phone to reset this.

I got an incredible yesterday.Been trying to get Exchange active sync to work.The problem is that no matter what option I choose in Schedule (as items arrive, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc...), the phone always defaults back to Manual.Nothing I do will make the change stick.I've tried a battery pull, deleting the account multiple times and re-adding it.I even installed the trial version of touchdown to make sure push email was set up correctly on the server and it works perfectly in touchdown.Any thoughts?I've done about everything I can think of.I don't want to buy touchdown because this should work for free.

I have the D Inc and have a question. Is there anyone to create filters in Active Sync Exchange that filters out emails so they don't hit your Inc. I have a rule setup in Outlook that automatically sends an email sent by a specific email address to go directly to my deleted items in my Personal Folders in Outlook 2007. The reason why i ask is because on my BB Storm, I setup a filter that blocked these emails from going to my BB In box. I also remember on my Moto Q with Win Mobile I always also able to setup a filter as well. I work at a help desk with a ticket tracking system, the system sends an email for every ticket opened by the help desk to all help desk employees, so my in box can fill up quite quickly. I did notice that if I have Outlook opened up on my desktop these emails do not show up on my D Inc, but when I close Outlook (Like I did last night before I went home), they are showing up today on my Inc.

I did a quick search and didn't find anything, so I am hoping someone can help out. Currently, I can only choose between 1 day or 3 days for downloading past e-mails on my active-sync account. This is really inconvenient since it is a work account and I would like to have access to 30 days worth of email. Does anyone know of a way to increase the days for downloading past email beyond the factory settings?

When I close my app, all the activities are destroyed but my app still locked in my main thread in: Object.wait(long,int) line: not available [native method] Is there a service still running or something like that ? I'm currently writing an application for the Android platform that requires a mounted SD card (or ExternalStorage). I know that it might not be the best way to require something like that, but the application will work with quite a lot of data, and I don't even want to think about storing that on the device storage.Anyway, to ensure that the application wont run without the external storage, I do a quick check in the activities onCreate method. If the card is not mounted, I want to display an error message and then quit the application.When I run the application, and the exception gets raised (I raise it manually to check if everything works), the error message is displayed correctly. However when I press the button, the application closes and I get an Android error, that the application was closed unexpectedly (and I should force exit).I read some topics before on closing an application, and I know that it maybe shouldn't happen like that. But how should I instead prevent the application from continuing to run? How do you close the application correctly when an error occurs?

The ApplicationManager is killing the process of my application when the user presses on "FORCE STOP" on the Aplication Manager.According to the documentation a broadcast action is.The user has restarted a package, and all of its processes have been killed. All runtime state associated with it (processes, alarms, notifications, etc) should be removed. *Note that the restarted package does not receive this broadcast.* The data contains the name of the package.How can I listen that action in my application; I have tried creating a BroadcastReceiver on my package, but the onReceive() is not called.

how to close an application? Do you just push the back button to close applications? I wonder because my old phone (Nokia 5800) allows one to have more than one application open at the same time, and it has a function to enable one to check what's running and to close anything that you don't want to run. Is it the same on the X10? If it's only possible to have one app open at the same time, that answers my question, I suppose - if I open another application, the previous one will be closed. That seems to be the case, but I checked the other day what was consuming so much battery and it turned out to be a game (Labyrinth Lite) which seemed to be running in the background. I've deleted it now, but I'd like to have a clearer understanding of how to check easily what is open.
