I just got my phone a few hours ago. Been reading all about how to do things for weeks now. But I haven't been able to to figure out how to close the mail and messages apps that show up on 2 of my home screens. Please tell me I can do this and put them where ever I want and how do I close them?

I sent a text message and then i got an alert saying Handcent had to force close, so I did but when I went back into the app all my threads were gone not cool. Anyone else have this problem? Should i just use the stock messaging system?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMaybe others already know this or figured this out. Apparently our phones work a lot like a Blackberry. On a Blackberry if you hit the home key or end key to exit an app it will stay running. Same thing happens here. However, if you hit the return key to exit the app it will stop running.
I tested this out on my Incredible and it also works. I used Facebook and a couple other apps as examples. If I go in to the app and then leave the app by hitting the home key it stays as an Active backgrounded app. If I however use the return key to leave the app and return to my home screen then the app is listed as inactive cached. This could help a lot of people with battery life and sleep issues, but I'm not sure. I know the way Android works that background apps aren't supposed to really do anything There does appear to be a difference though. This also works on the Engadget app which I've heard people mention for not closing.
When i go into Setting > Applications > Manage Applications,The list of apps starts loading, after 5 seconds, it will force close:The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.Not sure what APP I installed that could of caused this.

how to set up Gmail through an exchange server so that you can get push email in the HTC Mail app. I obviously can't be 100% sure this works, but the folks over at XDA seem to think this is the solution for the Desire. The instructions are for a Windows Mobile Device, but all of the information you need to fill in inside the HTC Mail app should be available at the link. I've been using the HTC app, but have noticed that after a day or so the notification sound stops playing when I receive an email. This happened for anyone else? Anyone tried both apps for any length of time and have strong opinions over which app is better? I saw a review that said the HTC app is better but the Google one doesn't seem too bad to me... View 2 Replies View RelatedI believe I accidentally (as a dumb noob) deleted the TelephonyProvider.apk and the Sprint_Promotion.apk apps. I got them on my SD card and have been trying unsuccessfully to reinstall them all night on package installer but I keep getting this wonderful "process com.android.phone" force close message. I managed to get my phone into airplane mode thinking if I disconnected it from the internet I could stop the error messages and do the installs off my SD card but to no avail. I'm trying to do it through Package Installer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out whats going on. I have 2 DI for myself and girlfriend. I have my email (gmail and yahoo) setup through the HTC Mail Client and they work fine. I setup my other phone the same way and it worked fine, but once the yahoo account completed the process of downloading the inbox, I got an Authentication Error stating the login was incorrect. The login is not wrong and works fine to login via the standard web page. I tried to delete the Yahoo Account on the HTC, but when I went to setup again I had the same issue. Not sure how or why this could be happening. Any advice is appreciated. Also verified all the yahoo email settings on my working device and they are all the same on the other device with the issue.

Mail app that was recently put in the Market, I have been using the stock mail app to check my Yahoo! mail.Last night when I checked my Yahoo! Mail through the stock mail app, I was getting weird error messages. Most of the time it would go ahead and put me in my Yahoo! inbox but there would also be a message saying "login failed." I would click OK and then go about my business because e-mails were coming through. I figured it would sort itself out at some point.This morning, it was still doing it and it was annoying, so I re-booted the phone. Same problem. So I decided to delete the account and re-install it (a few weeks ago I had some issues with my Exchange mail account and deleting then re-installing fixed them.)Now, when I try to re-install the account it says "Authentication failed. Please verify your username/password." I have tried it over and over. I know I am using the right username and password - I just used them on my desktop PC to get into the account. And my Yahoo! Mail app still works on the phone.Anyone have any ideas what has happened and/or how I can fix this? I really want to continue to be able to check my Yahoo! mail on my phone without having to use the Yahoo! app.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAnyone else having issues with the phone and a system error message with something about com.htc.provider and it only gives you the option of a "force close" button. Sometimes that is all that happens and once you hit the force close the message goes away, at least for a while. Other times when this happens it deletes all of your text strings. I have 2 lines and 2 droids, both were having the same issue, did the factory resets, went to the store with both and finally gave in and took 2 refurbished phones to try and fix issue, both refurbished phones started doing the same thing immediately. I am in process of arguing with verizon about not wanting another eris to replace these.

That's it. I can press the menu button on the phone and see the menu items I created, but when I click on the "Settings" (r.id.settings) it FC. Do I have to do anything to the manifest/other thing to get this to work?
Love the X10 but cannot get mediascape to work, get force close message each time. Sony not responded to any of my emails and when I called they were not that helpful, could only suggest I restore to factory settings. Do not really want to do that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a pop e-mail account set up on my incredible to check every 10 minutes for new e-mail, but it never does. the only time it checks for new mail is when I manually launch the mail app. My Gmail account works fine. I will send myself a e-mail from my gmail account to my pop e-mail account (another email address) and that email will not hit my incredible until I manually launch the mail app.

I've synced it with Exchange so I get my gmail as it comes, but when I reply from either the gmail app or my PC, it doesn't appear in my HTC sent mail. I've refreshed and nothing happens. I prefer the HTC layout better than the gmail app and love that I get previews on the widget, but the gmail app works exactly as I need it to. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have HTC mail set up to access my googlemail account and it is set to check every hour for new mail.
When the phone is rebooted everything seems to work fine but then after a while it appears that the phone will stop checking for emails on the hour.
If I go into mail it will retrieve them at that point but it should have picked them up several hours ago.
The problem only seems to have been occuring the past week or so but I cannot figure out why.
The only things that have changed are the OTA update and returning from holiday abroad but I cannot see how this would have affected things.
I was just entering my hotmail account details using the settings provided by a member here and it verifies nicely. When I enter the Mail app however it says that the "account for this widget has been deleted. Would you like to switch to another account?" When I select Yes it just leads me back to my account Inbox - the same account it claims was deleted This account was created using the Manual IMAP option.
Earlier today when I just put my details in normally, without selecting Manual, it was working okay - although the sync was a problem. At least, however, it had a notification icon on the App when I got a new email. But strangely after I wait a few minutes going back to that account inbox, it does show my emails. What can I do to stop this?
When I get a voice mail I also get a text message as well.I installed Handcent.Is there a way to disable the text message when you get a voice mail?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI like using K9 Mail, but I was wondering if there was a way to change the size of the messages listed in the in box or any IMAP folder. 10-and-a-half messages (with the subject on one line and sender on another) are displayed on my Moment's screen. While I like seeing all of these messages, it is not very finger-friendly. It is difficult to tap precisely on a given message. Is there any way to increase the size of the message list? Something like the default Gmail or Android e-mail app would be great. I have dug through the preferences of K9, but so far haven't found anything other than being able to change the theme of the app.
