Android :: Follow Up For Active Install Count - Application Updates

We wanted to follow-up. By now, you should have noticed that the installs metrics for your applications have been restored. We identified the problem as occurring with application updates only, have made some changes recently that should resolve and prevent this problem. Please let us know if this error persists.
If we can assist you further, please let us know. In my case, things have not changed at all. Downloads are increasing (1550) and active installs stabilized at 29% (the value before the drop was 44/45%). So, indeed active installs are increasing again - 29% is stable since three weeks - but the original percentage was not restored. Now, I don't know what to think... Maybe the problem is not solved, maybe in my specific case the active installs really dropped for a while (but it's curious that it only happened for a while...). BTW, I didn't release any new upgrade since then (I have a new one almost ready, but I'm beyond schedule because of personal problems) - and maybe the count would fix itself with new upgrades...
What would you do now? Is there anybody else for which the problem was not solved?

I seen to have a problem installing and updating pretty much all apps from the market. I am running anbranded and unrooted desire on 2.2. I have successfully downloaded nearly 50 apps from the market but recently it doesn't seem to install any apps including updates. I did find one that was ok (retro camera which I tried just to see) but it wont update sppedview, folder organizer lite or quick system info pro. It also doesn't seem to want to let me install quite a few other apps that I have tried (some alarm apps and some poker ones).

The Android Market Developer Console shows two numbers for your submitted application; "total" and "active installs".What exactly does the "active installs" number mean?Is it affected by application upgrades? Does that yield a "total" of 1000 because the APK was downloaded 1000 times but an "Active Installs" of 500 (50%) because, in the end, only 500 people are running the app? Does an upgrade get counted as an uninstall followed by an install?

When using Timescape, getting updates does that count as Internet Usage? Do I turn off the Sync Service to turn off Timescape from updating? I just don't want to go over my limit and realise I have to pay tons for the data usage!?

Yes we have threads about this already but we still have not gotten an answer AND I think it's about time somebody at least explain what does this number actually MEAN. I'm getting frustrated with the lack of transparency on this.
My apps used to be around 56% active installs
VERY soon after I updated the apps to allow install to SDCARD (preferExternal), then the active install count started dropping like a rock. Now it's around 39% today for my main app.
My opinion is there is a bug in the SDCARD install feature somewhere that is not counting those installs. We know there already is a bug with home screen icons if you install to sdcard you will get a blank icon until the Home app restarts.

I have couple of apps (billboard100 and xmplayer) that had been reaching download/installs of 10k/9k+ and 9k/6k respectively. This morning the counts dropped to 1k/1k and 5k/3k. How is that possible?

I released an app a few days ago and saw the total & active install count start moving pretty much immediately. However, over the last day or so it seems to have stalled. Judging from the ad metrics from AdMob over the same period though I'm pretty sure it's getting more downloads. Does anyone have any insight on how frequently Google updates these counters on the Developer Console?

Is there any simple application that can track how many step I walked. I don't want the one that uses gps. Just make use of the accelerometer i guess? I have this application when i use my old C905.

Anyone else noticing some strange behavior on the market lately? Most notably, I've been seeing fairly significant swings in the active install count (on the order of 3 points in a single day) which has been highly unusual for my app so far. Also downloads have been way down over the past few days. Is it possible that people don't love me as much as I think they do? Or is there another market bug similar to the one that cost me 8 percentage points in active installs last time that never got corrected?

I have an HTC Desire with HTC sense. I use the included mail app for two different accounts (non-gmail). On my home screen, I have shortcuts to each mailbox. However, for some reason the unread count is always the same on the two shortcuts. (I get a new message in Account A, and both shortcuts show 1 unread message.) Any idea how to fix this? Otherwise I like the mail app, and I'm not looking to change the app. Just wondering if this is a common problem with an easy fix.

Is it possible to get the mail app to display unread counts for imap folders?
I have a bunch of server-side filters that move unread email into different folders, but its not possible on the Hero to see which imap folders have unread items (except In box). I've tried both the Mail app and K-9 but couldn't find a setting to show them. Anyone else figured it out?

I have two activities running: MainActivity and ChildActivity. Whenever the user clicks in the button in MainActivity, the ChildActivity is launched. What I want to do is this:When the active activity is the ChildActivity and the user clicks the home button then relaunch the application (like opening from the beginning), I want to see the ChildActivity instead of MainActivity that is launched. However; This is happening only when the user clicks from recent activities window. (the window opened when you long press the home button).I had some suggestions actually work arounds and I tried to manipulate onStart, onRestart, onResume, onStop, onDestroy events. But, they didn't fully solve the problem. There should be a smart way out there.

Maybe others already know this or figured this out. Apparently our phones work a lot like a Blackberry. On a Blackberry if you hit the home key or end key to exit an app it will stay running. Same thing happens here. However, if you hit the return key to exit the app it will stop running.
I tested this out on my Incredible and it also works. I used Facebook and a couple other apps as examples. If I go in to the app and then leave the app by hitting the home key it stays as an Active backgrounded app. If I however use the return key to leave the app and return to my home screen then the app is listed as inactive cached. This could help a lot of people with battery life and sleep issues, but I'm not sure. I know the way Android works that background apps aren't supposed to really do anything There does appear to be a difference though. This also works on the Engadget app which I've heard people mention for not closing.

So, my ROM comes preloaded with a root app that I've never heard of, and I want to use Superuser (and the Elite I paid for).
The bundled app came with a 'cleanup/uninstall' script, that I ran, that promised to remove itself and it's root-granting abilities.
Now, even though I've got Superuser (Elite) installed, apps are saying I don't have root.
How do I configure Android (or SU) to use SU as my root-granting application?

second query of the day, but for the past week or so I've been unable to download new apps or install updates to my existing ones. I updated firmware to 1.5 about a month ago and I have installed apps since then with success, I just can't do it now. Argh! It's really annoying.Are there settings I can check, or change the way it downloads? I'm trying to download over secure wifi and it doesn't seem to matter if the battery's fully charged or not.

Hey folks, I have a rooted desire witba customer. ROM installed. On The marketplace it is saying that there's an update for both of the aforementioned apps. However, when I try to install them it always fails. These are The only 2 that seem to be a problem.

I rushed to rooT before I even installed the latest ota and installed a custom recovery but I have been facing huge slowdown in games that should run butter smooth on my phone such as dead trigger and my friend with same mobile phone and both on stock jelly bean 4.2.2 rooted can run it butter smooth the only difference between 2 devices is that he installed the ota updates before rooting so could that be the problem?and if so is the there a way to install ota updates while rooted and if there is any custom rom without problems that works on my mobile phone that fasts everything up.

When i update my phone through the update software, i follow all steps correct and after downloading, and installation to the phone till about 99% of progress installation, says always "Failed to install updates" and i remove cable and restart the phone, it installs and customize the system, it says every time updates availble after that..

I am curious about the procedure for updating an app that was acquired off the market. Do you simply install over your existing app? I'm planning to use my website to provide updates for my android application whenever the user decides to perform an update( in case there is one available) . I'm thinking to use http requests for the communication between the user and the server, so whenever there is a new update the server sents back to the user the link to download the apk of the update through the android browser. So far I think it should work !?!. But once I have the apk of the new update on the card ,and the installed old version of the application how do I actually perform the update ?

I had thought that appbrain is more or less of a mirror of market. How come sometimes I got into appbrain and sync and it shows me no updates, but they I go into the market and it does show updates for some apps?

I'm having a problem when trying to stop location updates when the app goes into the background. In my onCreate() method I start request updates like this:

However the GPS icon remains in the status bar and the only way to get rid of it is to manually kill the application.
