HTC Incredible :: Bump Charging Less And Less On 1750mh Battery
Aug 19, 2010
I'm noticing the bump charge is becoming shorter and shorter when I goto do it. Its like 15 minutes max now. But it does still make a big difference. Be nice when they fix this. I feel silly double charging a lion battery.

I've looked around and haven't seen this in other threads, but I've been in contact with HTC about the bump charging issue, and here is the "final" response I just received.

given all the tweaking I'm doing for battery sakes, I think it's a bit silly that probably the single biggest gain wrt battery life could be gained through the elimination of bump charging. if I could wake up in the morning and have my phone actually charged to 100% instead of 90%ish, that would be great.any rom's or apps have a way to fix this?

As most of you know, the Inc will drop 8-10% of its charge within 10 minutes of being taken of the charger with no use.I stumbled accross a different method for "bump charging" that does not require the phone being turned off. After I take my phone off the charger I let it do its dropping for no reason dance. At about 92% I plug the phone back in, turned on. Once it hits 100% I unplug it.After that second charge the phone will stay at 100% for an hour or so with no usage.I drive to work, about an hour, so I dont use the phone since its too early to talk to anyone.I left with 100% and when I got to work it was still at 100%. This is with my phone connected to HFL through bluetooth.

So i am somewhat sick of bump charging. I know that it is EXTREMELY beneficial, as i get a good 20% boost in my battery life. But the downside is that sometime i do not have time to bump charge, other times i forget to turn on my phone for an hour or two... It is a hassle that i would like to avoid. Is there any software patch of some sort that would just fix the charging issue so that the first 7% do not drop so rapidly? I feel like there should be something out there, if not, then it seems like a possibility. So someone please let me know if there is anything out there that would fix the problem.

To get the most out of your Incredible's battery, you have to bump charge. To bump charge (I think) you charge your battery until the light turns green, then turn your phone off, and wait until the light turns green again. I think this is a hassle, especially when I want my phone ready to go when I wake up (and I don't have time to bump charge).I was thinking that an app could be made to automatically bump charge the phone. All the app would do is turn the phone off once the battery initially charges to 100%, so the phone would keep charging once off, and get a real 100% charge.I am not sure if an app like this could be made, but it would be useful! The only problem I see is: after bump charging does your phone loose charge for every second it is plugged in, or does it stay at the true 100% until it is unplugged? If it loses charge while plugged in after bump charging, then this wouldn't work.

Will there be an extended battery for the Moment? I know that the Sprint hero can get a 1750mh or 1800 extended battery. Has anyone heard of seido or mugen making one for the moment?

I am not 100% sure if it will improve battery life either but it wont hurt to try.
1. Power on your Desire then connect to your Charger and Fully charge until the LED changes Green.
2. Disconnect your phone from the charger and then power off.
3. Reconnect your phone to your charger with the power off and wait for the green LED.
4. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on.
5. Once the phone has fully booted / ready to use power off again.
6. With the power off connect the phone to the charger and wait for the green LED.
7. Disconnect from the Charger then power on and use normally.

i woke up this morning to find that my inc was pretty hot (left plugged in overnight to charge), and had not charged much (it only got to ~60% starting from 30ish). it also had the overheating warning blinking lights (alternate green and amber) going. i unplugged the phone and the blinking lights stopped and it cooled back down. when it was hot BatteryLeft was reporting 45C, right now it feels normal and reports 31.5C.should i be worried? all i did was plug it in and leave it on my desk like i normally do when charging, this is the first time it's ever done this for me.

I'd love some input from anyone before I take my Incredible in for service, please.Three days ago I realized that the charging light was remaining yellow long beyond the phone's usual charge time. Even after leaving it plugged in overnight, the next morning I was still at less than half charge, going only by the Settings>About Phone>Battery>Battery Level graphical display. Last night same thing, whether the phone was on or off, still a yellow charge light. Today for the first time since I got the phone, the battery indicator itself turned yellow towards the end of the day.Preemptive facts:Prior to starting a new thread, I did a thorough search and found nothing related to this specific battery issue.I have the OEM, red, HTC battery, and have never charged it outside of the phone, or with any charging cable other than the one supplied with the phone. When I first received the phone, I charged it fully, unplugged, and bumped charged before turning it on. For about a week afterward I would charge to green while on, unplug, turn off, and "bump charge". I have never had trouble getting through the day on a single charge, and no, I don't think I was training a lithium ion battery, I believed I may have been training the software of the phone itself.I have tried charging the phone fully both on and off, and have not seen green for over two days. This includes continuous charging for over 10 hours.I have had the phone for roughly seven weeks. The phone does charge- just now I have gone from @25% (as measured on the aforementioned graphical display) to @40%, but at that point it seems to no longer charge, although the "Battery State" says "Charging AC" and the little battery icon shows the charging animation.Have I got a dead battery, or am I missing something? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

I put the charger in the port and didn't realize that it wasn't charging until after I completely drained the battery. And yes, I plugged it in and checked the outlet. I got it at Best Buy. Is that where I should return it or can I do it at the Verizon store?

Today's my 4th day of using the phone. I just charged it while phone's on, from 1 bar of battery left. It only took 1 hour for the LCD light to go green? that doesn't sound right. Is that normal?

I recently noticed my Incredible 2 was only showing the battery life to be 50% after charging it overnight. I switched AC chargers and the problem continued. So I figured the battery was done, for whatever reason, and I ordered a replacement battery from Verizon directly. The replacement battery also only charged to 50% after a full night's charge. So...it's probably an issue with the phone itself. I have Total Equipment Coverage but getting a new phone's a hassle and I like my Incredible 2 (not guaranteed to get another I imagine). I figure it might be the phone's "charging circuitry"...is that easily repairable? I need to have a fully-charging phone in a week or so...

Sorry for another battery thread, but I was interested to see how much time everyone was getting from a 100% charge to the phone dying. I've been monitoring battery with the ap BatteryLeft. At 100%, it is saying my battery gets 17.5 hours which seems pretty bad. What about everyone else? I've seen threads in terms of %, but hours would really be more helpful.

I've noticed sometimes my Incredible battery indicator stops showing the charging symbol but the orange LED is still lit, and if I go to my About Battery, it says "Discharging" rather than "Charging." I don't do anything to the phone to cause this, but would love to know why it's happening if anyone knows.

do you charge, then tun off the phone and charge til green? Or do you charge, turn off and charge til green, unplug and plug back in, and repeat? I've tried both and honestly I think it may last longer with the charge, turn off and charge and then stop.does repeatedly bumping it to green 3, 4 or even 5 time hurt the battery?

I am wondering how many Bump Charges do you all do? I saw a post saying 3 times, and I did 3 times, but the fourth time, I am still not fully charged because the LED light still RED after I turn the phone off and plug the USB charger in.Another concern is that, people mentioned this is a software issue, but I am bump charging the phone while it is OFF, so wouldn't this being a software issue since I do not have the phone turned ON?

BTW mods, im not looking for support, just to discuss the issue and see if i can be brought to speed
Today i unplugged with my 3500 in the phone, checked emails for about 22 seconds and it dropped to 92%
turned phone off and plugged back in until green, and streamed Pandora while checking emails for about 15min before it even moved off of 100%
Just wondering, whats the latest word on this issue? Is it hardware? software?

I always have my phone plugged in over night, and one night I noticed that the screen came on for no reason, stayed on for a few seconds, and then went off. It did it a few times off and on. I thought it was a little weird, but didn't think too much about it, until just now.
I'm sitting next to my phone, plugged in, and the screen comes on again for no reason. It had been plugged in for awhile then, and when the screen lit up, I happened to glance at the battery status bar, and noticed that it did not show that it was plugged in. Now, maybe 30 min later, the battery bar shows that it is plugged in and full.
Could my Inc be self-bump charging? My phone is so new that it came with Froyo on it already (unless the Verizon guy downloaded it when he set the phone up)
Has anyone else noticed this at all? I've always had good battery life... I can usually make it through the whole day without hitting orange (12 hours+), with plenty of texting, some youtube videos, facebook, Daily(comic)Strip, and checking email and weather, plus Angry Birds. And I've never really bump charged.

This is where quality companies and lousy companies get separated. The quality companies forward the bugs to the software development department so that these issues can be tested, replicated, verified, and ultimately fixed.
What I'm asking is that anyone here who is experiencing the bump charge issue to please follow the below link and report your issue to HTC's support. Ultimately, I'm hoping that enough here do it so that HTC is forced to acknowledge the issue and test it, as the responses they've given me so far have indicated that they do not want to acknowledge it.
HTC Mobile Phones - Customer Service - E-mail Support
At the very least, we can compare responses from support reps if we get enough participation. Win win, as we either get acknowledgment from HTC, or pure comedy from their support reps. One last thing though, please be polite (at least initially) with the reps and focus primarily on the issue that needs to be fixed, rather than using this as a "prank call."

I've been doing the same thing for weeks now, but suddenly after I bump charge, my screen is black every morning.
I'm starting to see more and more threads about this over the last few days with other phones, but not for the Incredible. Everyone is saying 'turn it in, get a new phone.' What a pain in the butt to do that.
No one seems to have a cause for this. For me, I bump charge in the morning, and when I unlock after restart, everything goes black. I lock, unlock a few times, then I see my apps, but over a black back ground. I swap out my wallpaper and it works fine for me all day. But the last 3 mornings has resulted in a black screen.

HTC desire users. I often charge my phone rather frequently like once it twice a day. Sometimes I charge even when the battery is only half full as I am going out. Will this spoil the battery or phone? (If I charge when the battery have not been all used up).I heard from people that it might spoil the phone if I charge in this manner frequently.

I've been keeping the phone plugged into the wall charger all night when I sleep, and by the time I hit lunch hour the battery is nearly dead. I've had it hooked up to my USB port for nearly 8 hours and the battery is still only 10%, and as i post this thread i got a message "Battery is low. the charging current is not enough for device power consumption. please switch to AC power" I nly have a USB cable here at the office. is this low current USB the cause of poor charging? the phone is getting very warm too.
