Jul 22, 2010Is there a way to tell which apps are using most of your CPU or battery life? Maybe there is an application for it or something?

View 8 RepliesI hate the fact that when i use my camera, or camcorder and send an mms or simply save a picture, that it goes back to the camera. I hit the back button, home button, etc. and of course the camera goes away. I know the OS knows that the camera is in the background now, not utilizing CPU, therefore not using up MAH, but I'm OCD about it running, not sure why. The only 2 apps i kill when i'm done are google maps, and camera. I just dont want them running in the background even though they dont have "focus" and will not be drawing any power. There are some apps that come with an exit button, which is fine with me, even though it doesn't actually close the app, and i only use ATK when something is funky on the phone and not giving me what i want, but are you guys the same way as me, or am i the only one that force kills some of the more batt. draining apps ?
View 40 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone had any advice on which applications I should avoid/uninstall to try to conserve some battery. For example, does it use up a ton of battery to have location aware apps running or is it pretty nominal?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had my htc incredible for a few days and I absolutely love it. However, I am less than pleased with the battery life. I run a good amount of apps and widgets and am sure this is causing the life to drain. I downloaded ATK in order to close apps when not in use, but I've noticed a strange occurrence. It seems that w/i 10 minutes of closing unneeded apps a bunch of programs that I have not been using open up. Is there any explanation for this? Also, is there a way to immediately close an app when I'm done using it rather than having to find the ATK widget?
View 15 Replies View RelatedMay seem like a dumb question but I constantly keep an eye on what apps are running to conserve battery life. It got me thinking if I stopped any running app before plugging in the charger, would it will make the battery charge any quicker??
View 1 Replies View RelatedI think we should use this thread to recommend and help people looking for apps.
I'm looking for a specific battery app that adds a % value to the green battery bar at the top of the phone. I don't want a widget on the screen or anything else. Just to add a numerical value to the battery bar.
My battery life was bad, but it was OK, but in the past few days my battery life is 10% per 30minutes(Just over 5 hours on a charge).I used to get 8-10 hours on a charge.I noticed last week that while it was charging the status of the battery was "Overheat".I think I somehow cooked the battery?I use TaskKiller and kill 95% of apps automatically, I have bluetooth, wireless,GPS disabled and the screen dimmed.I have not changed or installed any new apps.I have not changed the way I use the phone at all.My battery was dead, 0%, and it charged to 95% in about 45 minutes. Is this even possible? In fact in the past two days I have not gotten the charge above 95% at all.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThinking about getting the extended battery for my new htc incredible. Just wondering how long the battery lasts when you use the phone. Not just standby?
View 4 Replies View RelatedA couple is questions: 1. I've installed Advanced Task Killer and I use it fairly regularly, but I don't understand why I keep finding apps I'm not using popping up when I check it. For example: when I finish online I turn off 3g or WiFi and use task killer to turn off internet. But I also find half a dozen other apps running, things like Clock, Messages, Last FM, etc. Can I stop that from happening?
2. I keep hearing that the display really eats battery life, but when I check Battery Usage in 'About phone' the things that between them account for about 90% is battery use are 'Phone idle', 'Cell standby' and 'Android system'. Display has used around 7%. Does that sound right?
I was out for a few hours today while using GPS, which obviously sapped my phone's power a bit quicker than usual. Since I got my Droid about a week ago, I've yet to see the battery drop below 40%, but today it started to creep below 30% and a question that I hadn't thought of came to mind: Does the Droid have any stock low battery warnings? I'd really hate to be wandering about with my phone and have it suddenly shut off after a heavy bit of GPS use in an app that doesn't allow me to see status bar and note my low battery. Will it make me aware somehow that I'm running low and should start conserving a bit more if I'd like to continue to have a functioning phone for the duration of my adventures? If the answer is no to this, then what are my options app-wise to have such a notification? Is there a good app that will tell me when my phone is on its last legs and I should tone down the usage? Better yet, is there an app that will also shut off all unnecessary communications (Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, etc) and limit the phone to phone calls only?
View 3 Replies View Relatedim looking for the best apps in the app store to enhance battery life. also looking for websites that are alternative to popular ones that will conserve some battery. as an example, theres EcoZi - Save Battery - a black google, it uses 4x less battery than normal google.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere are a lot of battery apps/widgets out there. Some are cool and helpful, and some are awful and full of fail. So here comes the question and it is simple. What battery widget do ya all use? I use vizBattery.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've just bought my first Android phone, an HTC Legend running 2.1 which I love. What I don't love is the battery life! I've been experimenting with different methods of conserving the battery and would like to hear what others users are doing. At the moment I switch off Wifi when I'm not at home and switch off GPS when I'm out all day. I also use a task killer to stop auto-updating apps I don't want open. I have some applications that check for updates frequently, email, exchange client and Google Listen, how does this impact of battery life? What about battery management apps? I've seen apps that control aspects of the phone but they seem overly complicated to configure, i.e. it's unclear how different settings will affect battery life. I've come across an app called Data on Demand that switches to 2G when the phone is on standby or on a schedule which seems very promising however there's no obvious way of verifying that it's working! Finally, anyone using Locale for power management?

I was wondering if there are any apps that are similar but that will power the device down at a certain battery level as to not sllow the battery to be fully drained.

View 49 Replies View Relatedi have a droid eris,im thinking of getting an incredible.can somebody tell me if they have made the same switch and if the battery life is better, the same or worse to the eris. i realize this will very by user im hoping to find some eris users that switched. but if you have a incredible and want to tell me your opinion on the battery life, fine by me. i use mine on and off some phone calls, some texts, some emails and check facebook a couple times a day.some times more sometimes less. as long as i dont use my pandora radio i make it through the day before i need a charge, but i always charge at night.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an EVO and I have a problem with it. I downloaded the app Advanced Task Killer to take care of apps running in the background. However sometimes when I pull it up I find that things like Sprint Navigation, Qik, Voice Dialer, and sometimes others are running without me pulling them up. My question is, how do I keep these apps from doing this, because they kill my battery when they come on and I don't know it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm going on a hike this weekend and thought it'd be a good time to test out either Google Tracks or CardioTrainer to see elevation gain, time, speed, etc. The hike should last about 4 hours. How will my battery hold up with the GPS on the whole time? Assuming these apps have the GPS constantly draining the battery, which I imagine they do.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone have any experience with apps that are huge battery drains? Thought it might be a good idea to list ones we know as huge drains so we know what to avoid in apps. So far I've found Pandora to be a horrible drain. I'll lose between 5-7% battery in 15 minutes when Pandora is running

View 23 Replies View Relatedwhen I first got my captivate, I was pretty impressed with battery life. I got 7.5hrs of in-n-out of service, taking pics, playing a bit and it cost 15-20% of my battery. I played for 1hr solid and it took 10%. Not bad. I then had myself a marketplace orgy and downloaded a shit-load of apps figuring I would check them all out later. Most I knew I would want eventually. I think I found a bug in photo bucket this way. I noticed my phone would *idle* using 10%/hr of battery. That is horrible. I found through process of elimination it was the photo bucket app, and the battery usage? not CPU, no, it was the 3G radio. It was probably attempting to login (w/o credentials as I had not confided it yet) repeatedly. Once I uninstalled it (it would auto-start even after being killed) my battery went back to staying almost flat while idle. Far, photo bucket (at least configured) is a problem app for battery usage. everything else I've tried seems ok so far.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI get pretty bad battery life. I wiped everything and reflashed the ROM and only installed about 10 apps instead of my usual 150 or so. Total difference in battery life! Except I want want my apps back, at least most of them.
I'm wondering if there's a way of finding out which ones take the most juice or are always running when I don't want them to do I can get rid of those few.
