Anyone have any experience with apps that are huge battery drains? Thought it might be a good idea to list ones we know as huge drains so we know what to avoid in apps. So far I've found Pandora to be a horrible drain. I'll lose between 5-7% battery in 15 minutes when Pandora is running

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm a very happy KaosFroyo 37 user, but I have some misc questions.(sorry, this item is a sort of double-post) Do any of these lockscreen widgets work with Froyo? When I was running Android 1.5 and 2.1, I would keep my screen pattern-locked most of the time, since it lives in my pants' pocket and I want to avoid it activating accidentally. Then when I get into the car and place my phone in a cup holder, I would unlock the phone once and click a widget which would leave it unlocked (for easy access to GPS, etc.) for the duration of my ride, when I would lock the phone again and put it back in my pocket.Now with Android 2.2 I can't do this with the lock pattern, because apparently the security mechanisms don't permit it; one must re-enter the lock pattern several times, which is very time-consuming. Is there another approach for 2.2 users? I don't need very strong security, just want to avoid accidental phone calls and other accidental activations.
While (Android's) Manage Applications worked for me initially, now it only works the first time after a reboot. I.e., I can run it once, but on any subsequent attempts it will hang while attempting to populate its app list. As workaround I purchased Quick App Clean Cache, which is nice in its own right, but it would still be nicer not to have this problem. Also I'm not 100% convinced that Quick App Clean Cache is always giving me the complete set of options for an app, e.g. to move it to an SD card. Have others encountered this problem? I could probably generate a logcat for debugging purposes.
Most apps will let you move them to the SD card in KaosFroyo 37, even though I haven't checked the CyanogenMod option to permit these.I guess that there are a few more apps which might copy more completely to the SD card if I used this option.Can anyone shed any light on this option and whether it's saves any memory, and whether it induces any instability?I'm always careful not to copy widgets to the SD card.Battery life is a continued mystery; clearly much worse than before I rooted. Apparently the CPU tweaker isn't recommended (I guess it uses too much battery life trying to figure out whether it needs to adjust the CPU speed), and the battery life tweaker on the XDA forum described doesn't provide a very clear strategy. What do folks recommend? [ Correction: I had read a pretty incoherent writeup somewhere on XDA, but now see Collin_ph Battery Tweak RC1 for Cyanogen / Darch Froyo roms (possibly others) - xda-developers which is well-written. I will try this approach, but welcome your experiences.
I'm sure its been covered somewhere but does anyone have an explanation as to why when I open advanced task killer it tells me a bunch of apps, that I didn't open, are running? Doesn't really slow my phone down too much, just annoying... Running Eris Root KaosFroyo

View 13 Replies View RelatedHope you guys can help. Since the 2.1 update I have certain apps which appear to be opening in the background when I didn't open them. I have Advanced Task Killer, and when I go in for example it shows Messages running, when I kill it, it will reappear in 30 secs or so, the same with MP3 store. Can these apps be stopped so they don't take up memory or what's the deal here. Thanks for any help.

Google Maps & Latitude, Youtube, the Market will not load properly and will either give error messages or won't load at all. Gmail, Voice, Gtalk and the web still work. I have did a couple reboots, pulled the battery, cleared the cache and nothing has helped. Any suggestions short of a factory restore or the Verizon store?

How will my battery hold up with the GPS on the whole time? Assuming these apps have the GPS constantly draining the battery, which I imagine they do.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been playing around with two applications that have widgets to show estimated battery life left.At one point, they seemed to show times that were pretty close but after updating to 2.1 they were off a bit. I am guessing 2.1 might have changed (hopefully improved) battery life and that caused calibration issues.I am just looking for any feedback from the community about which of these two apps they prefer, or if there are others I should look into. Of course, two of my main concerns are
1) I don't want an app that drains the battery
2) accuracy is important.
Forgive me if this has been addressed somewhere but there's a ton of threads that say 3g and battery so I couldn't find what I was looking for.Anyway, WHY does 3G use so much battery? Well, i dont have any problems with the apps on my phone because they dont even show up. Does that drain my battery even more? I have a rooted phone and in all my apps that have ads only show some white circle showing that something is loading but no ads show. My battery only lasts 8-12 hours of use. And it sucks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new here and a new Eris owner had it now for about a week and love it so far.I've read through several of the threads here about the battery and best ways to conserve, and I've tried to apply them (and I appreciate the info I've been able to find here).I'm conditioning the battery now (fully drained/charged it a few times), have set the brightness down lower, turned off bluetooth & wifi, set email checking to 2 hrs rather than 15 minutes.My question is about the effect on the battery of using facebook and peep/twitter as apps running on their own home screen.I have each of these two on their own screen so I can see updates but is this more draining on the battery than instead just having the apps as icons and then opening them up (meaning does this mean they are open all the time and draining battery)? Also, I have 3 email accounts setup but set to check every 2 hrs. Would this be more draining than just 1 email that checks every 30 minutes?

The Seido one is larger and has a reputation, whereas the ebay one is slightly larger, but comes with the charger so that I can carry two. With the Seido, I would probably just do a complete replacement and not carry the extra. The ebay on is also vastly cheaper. <--not too big a factor, as if I keep the phone I will not cheap out on arguably one of the most important parts. However, as a colege student, the cheaper price is nice.
i searched and found nothing helpful...but i keep GPS off. i only check google maps (latitude) every now and then, but i always close it when i'm dunzo by backing out, and then task killing. however, under battery usage, my maps is at 87%, and has been for 2 days. what?!?! i don't even use it! wtfs it doing?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was having major issues with battery drain on 2.1 (second leak) and after reading some threads here I removed the HTC battery widget. This appears to have solved the problem. Apparently the phone was not going to sleep when I had the HTC widget running. The awake time was nearly what the up time was. Without the HTC widget I do not have this issue.
Has anyone ran the Android Battery Widget on 2.1 and does it create the same problem?
I use to get a low battery alert warning at 15%, 10% and again at 5%. However, now I am not getting any alerts and my phone just display ready to shut off as I am using it. Is there a settings area that I inadvertantly changed? Has amyone else experienced this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI read a few threads about better batteries for the eris, and I though several people recommended the touch pro 2 battery, since it is 1500mAh. So I found a deal on an OEM one for my phone. Unfortunately it does not fit well. Although it is not much thicker then the eris battery the corners are not rounded so the back does not fit on all the way.
What do you guys think should I try one of the 1500 generics that say they are for the eris, or stick with my stock battery?
The middle pics are with the touch pro2 battery and the last is the stock eris battery.
I just got a google apps account at work and added that email to my phone and now my battery drains fast and Google is the culprit according to battery status.Also seems like the sync wheel is on all the time at top of screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust saw this on Gizmodo, it's a solBAT charger for any USB device... it's a 1500 mA battery that pumps 5V through a USB hookup. It's not exactly a perfect solution to anything (especially since it seems like it would be most useful in a car, which is when you'd be able to plug into the cigarette lighter anyway), but still: you can essentially boost your battery using only the sun, and it's only $30... pretty cool!
