I was curious if anyone knew if the internet connection on the Incredible (tethered through PDAnet to my laptop) has enough bandwidth/speed to support using my VOIP line.Sometimes my cable internet goes out and this would be a nice short term alternative.

new to smartphones and taking a cruise in a couple months. A guy at work is trying to explain things to me as we run into each other. He says that if i setup a Google Voice # (I have) and get sipgate (I have) and download Fring (I have) i can pair google voice with sipgate, and call my google voice # through Fring (with Sip) over Wifi while on the cruise to make free calls. Is this true? I really havent done anything with Sipgate except set it up in Fring. If so, what do i do in Sipgate to pair with Google Voice? Then how do i use it? Is there another way? Or am i (or was he) way off base?He travels internationally and said he has been doing a lot of research lately.

All I need to do is be able to make calls to other cells and landline phones over my wifi connection using my incredible ( i don't get cell service at home). No international calls. I have sip set up and fring. I can dial out on my dinc and i will hear ringing but but that is it. No one picks up. I have called my home phone and it doesn't ring.

It doesn't seem to matter what the source email is (gmail, hotmail, etc). Some emails are ok some are not. Anyone else have this problem? Any fixes?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got my incredible yesterday, it's all going well, except that I noticed this line of pixels, not really any color in particular, but when you move the phone and look closely, they are very slightly distorted, and it makes them stick out slightly. I've noticed this problem on TVs before but I never understood it. I'm thinking it may be the invisible shield I had the person at the store install for me? I'm hoping it's not the screen...but here's a picture. I understand it may be hard to see, but if you move away from the picture you can sort of see what I'm talking about.

I'm trying to get the code entered in the command window before running the PB31IMG.zip file and have run into a snag that, being, I don't know much about the using command window. (adb push flash_image /data)(adb push mtd0.img /dat. Both go through fine, but when I type: (adb shell) and press enter my next line of code starts w/ :(~#) upon my typing (chmod 777 /data/flash_image) I get: (~#) again. Quick question: 1. Is the (~# ) correct and if not how do I get past it to enter the remaining code? 2. Do I just continue to type the remaining code after the (~#)? 3. After rebooting, what volume do I type the (fastboot devices after? C: or C:sdkools? I obviously don't know much, if anything, about using the command window.

Anyone with an early model or anyone in the know able to say whether or not this can be erased/disabled/changed? I'd prefer people not knowing where my emails are coming from.

View 49 Replies View RelatedOn the left edge of the screen, there is a line going down the side that almost looks like its suppose to be the far right side of the screen because when i move to different homepages, it shows up in that little line first as it swypes across (if that makes any sense). Has anyone else had any screen issues similar to this? This kind of sucks. I was happy that I haven't had any major problems with my phone.

When I swipe my finger across it doesn't feel like a scratch. I noticed it not too long after I received the phone. The line looks to uniform it kinda looks like a stain.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAm I the only one having an issue answering an incoming call if I'm on the other line? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Incredible but this is quite an issue for me. It will show the call waiting, yet I cannot answer it to save my life. I have tried the mylockphone tools which is great but whether that is activated or not, I still can't grab the incoming call. Ultimately, I let the person I am speaking to go and then have to call the other person back. What am I doing wrong? I recall my Moto Droid having the same issue.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm attaching a picture I just took in low light. Basically the image looks fine on the OLED screen *until* I focus and then snap the photo. When I focus, the image is overlaid with a bunch of lines which distort the image and these are visible in the saved photo. I notice that this happens in low light nearly all the time, and also in medium light pretty often. Today I took photos outside on an overcast day and it was doing this as well. Is there something wrong with the camera and/or software? Anyone else experience this type of problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having some call quality issues but they're mainly on the other end of the line. Those I'm speaking to are picking up some static/background noise. I really don't have any complaints with the call quality on my end. Also, I've noticed it seems to be worse when I'm in the car traveling. If I'm at home and make a call, others tell me the call is clear. Anyone else experience a similar scenario?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was at the airport this morn. New incredible, new HP laptop. Pdanet worked the night before when installed. But while working my computer shut down randomly restarted and said it was installing updates. When it came back to life and I tried to restart the tether pdanet said the android device does not have a connection. Indeed. Whenever Ian tendering is plugged in even the browser on the phone doesn't work and 3g icon goes away.

And if so, what are my options for doing it for free with-out root? I don't ever use it nor do I really need it but I can foresee in the future using it some random day.
Wireless tether worked perfectly before installing custom rom. I still have android.tether folder on sd card with fw bcm4329 but cant get wireless tethering to work again. can revert to stock nandroid backup and wireless tether works fine.

Now that rooters are tethering wireless, I see an option for WEP in the tethering app. Seems like a good idea. Any thoughts on this and other options in the program? I guess I'm wanting to discuss a best case setup regarding all the menu options.

I wanted to test out data usage by using PDANet to stream Howard on my laptop. I didn't pay attention to the clock, but I'm sure it was streaming for at least 2-3 hours. Checked my account today and the data usage jumped by 156 MB in 24 hours.So, bear that in mind if you're thinking of tethering for streaming audio. Consistent usage like that could possibly tip off VZ that something fishy is going on.

I found the following instructions to get free WiFi tethering on my Incredible using verizons hotspot app that came with with Froyo upgrade a few months ago.. So far , it works fine (although I do have to reset the wireless adapter on whatever machine I want to tether to the phone, but that only take 2 seconds).
1. Dial ##778
2. Go into edit mode
3. The password is 000000
4. Once in go to M.IP Default Profile and edit DUN NAI from yournumber@dun.vzw3g.com to yournumber@vzw3g.com.
5. Then hit menu and press commit modifications.
6. It should then reboot.
7. FREE WiFi!!!
I recently rooted my Incredible and installed Cyanogen 6.00 RC3. I liked some things about it but missed some of the stock HTC widgets and apps. The Cyanogen rom had wifi hot spot, and it worked great. I could connect more than one computer to it, as it acted like a Hotspot.
Today i reflashed to Virtuous 2.7 Rom, which is alot like the stock 2.2. I got back the things I missed in Cyanogen but no wifi hotspot. Instead, there is "Wireless Tethering" which doesn't seem to work. The latest version is installed, version 2.0.5-pre9. Neither of my computers can "see" the connection.
Is there any way I can get the wifi hot spot app that was in Cyanogen and install it on my phone with the Virtuous 2.7 Rom? wireless tethering really doesn't do what I want it to.
I was just wondering which waste more power. Wifi or bluetooth tethering?
