HTC Incredible :: Rom Improve Signal?
Sep 28, 2010
I've had stock 2.1, 2.2 OTA, Virtuous 2.7 and Virtuous 3.0 with custom kernal they offer. All have showed ~100dBm and usually 0-1 bars Now i installed Uncommon Sense 1.0 from the ROM Manager. Now it shows 6 full bars at all times. I checked in settings and I'm at about 64-70dBm In all of my years on Verizon i have never had good signal in this apartment. Id hate to jinx it by discussing it but what gives?

Would an OTA update fix this problem? And I'm not necessarily talking the one that was mentioned here today. I can live with the battery issue until the extended battery comes out. I love this phone and don't want to send it back but I really might have no other choice. What are the chances that some update will improve the issue or is it a hardware issue that might never get resolved?
Also, anyone know how long you have with a phone till you can not port your number? I've been using the phone with a new number and still have my ATT Bold active. I don't want to port my number till I am sure I will be keeping the Incredible.

This phone has to be one of the worst at signal iv had. My wifes TP2 which was mine i thought was bad but this is horrible. I get 0 to 1 bar on my moment and she get 1-2 bars. A few times it is searching for service and this is all at my home which sucks cause i cant make calls or talk on the phone long before it drops. Is there anything out there to help improve this that isnt to costly? I know Sr print has the air wave thing but that is a monthly fee. I'm not gonna pay to improve my signal every month on top of my service already. What im looking for is maybe an antenna that i could stick somewhere to help boost it enough to keep me from searching for service.

I moved home on Tuesday, and discovered that I get very low or even no signal in my apartment. I was wondering if there was any way to improve signal in my apartment? I have heard about signal repeaters, but they're too expensive. I did download an app from the market called 'Signal Booster' but it doesn't seem to help. This could possibly be an impossible question to answer with the options I have, but does anyone have any idea how I can improve my signal?

Coming from a G1 and a MyTouch, I noticed that the GPS takes forever and a day to pick a signal compared those HTC phones. I remember that G1's GPS took forever until Cupcake came along, it was a night and day improvement. Any ideas how to improve it other than wait for Samsung to fix it in an update?

Codes to enter the programming menu can be found here: How to Increase Droid X Call Quality? Relevant EVRC-B settings are under NAM CDMA Settings on the Incredible. I myself am not experiencing the call quality issue, so I can't vouch for the results. Link above indicates it may cause extra drain on battery. I used this same code years ago on a Samsung "dumb" phone and it did wonders for call quality and I did not notice a difference in battery life.

I want to reach out to others here before I take my Moment back to Best Buy to exchange it for another Moment.
My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?

Advanced Task Killer, it turns out the Incredible never actually closes programs you run and they remain in the memory. Now that I am killing programs I am not using, I am getting SICK battery life. A whole day with downloading, heavy usage and pictures.

My cheap and venerable speakerphones have always been plenty loud, therefore the Droid speaker sound is a bit of a letdown. Can it be improved in any way? Maybe hardware, or maybe somebody developed a better driver for the stock speaker?

I noticed this under the Incredible Wikipedia page the other day as a "tip" for improving call quality;
- Go to Phone and Dial ##778
- Choose Edit Mode
- Password is 000000
- Go to CDMA Settings
- Scroll all the way to bottom
- Change Home Page, Home Orig, and Roam Orig from option EVRC to EVRC-B
- Hit Menu and Commit Changes
- Phone reboots

I was told by my local Verizon store that I can improve battery life by doing a hard reset on my phone by doing a hard reset. Before I turn it into a brick, I wanted to get some second opinions. Anybody else done this?

I'll keep this one short - I just want to know if anyone has tried some of the available camera apps, and actually noticed better Incredible photos with less noise, brighter indoor photos without flash, color rendering, or better focus. If you could explain any theoreticals on how software interacts with the hardware to produce such improvements, that would be appreciated too.

Some Droid users were having the same call quality issues and someone suggested this fix. Worked for some, not for others. As always, be careful if applying:

Anyone with similar experiences? Recently I started losing my 3G signal on occasion and restarting to get it back. Right now I don't have 3G and restarting did not help. Even my wifi signal will disappear leaving me with no internet and I will need to disable and re-enable wifi to reconnect.

I just updated to 2.2, but I noticed the Verizon network signal is weaker. I used to be able to use 3G connection at my desk at work, but after the update, I cannot receive any 3G signal at the same location. Does anyone have any idea?

I 'm typically at work or home. At home i usually have between 1-2 signal bars (3g) on my Inc while my wife's blackberry has 3-4 bars. and while at work, i have 0-1 bars while my buddy 10 feet away with a moto driod has 3 bars in 3g. Does the Inc inherently have poor signal strength? or do i have a dud?

I have seen it in a few ROM's with EVO Framework, namely Adrynalyne's Frankenrom_B6. The EVO has 6 bars in the signal meter and the Dinc has 4. If I am using a ROM that has the EVO Framework, Virtuous 2.2, can I MOD my Signal Meter to be this one? If so, where can I find this?

While at my house and playing with both the Incredible and X, I noticed that the Incredible had only one bar, while my X had full signal. My first reaction was, "I can't keep a phone that has poor service at my house!"
But after looking into it further, I found that the dbm was almost spot on for both phones. It turns out, it's probably a software issue regarding displaying the bars rather than an actual signal problem. My call quality has been great so far with no issues.

Do you have any problems with call quality and/or calls dropping? I personally have never had a problem. I am in a major city and not the country or rural area. I'm just trying to see what percentage of users have these issues.

I had another thread, but my Inc has been having the rebooting problem. I have a network extender, but it apparently doesn't help the Inc until you're in a call. Now, my dad has the same phone and his has never rebooted. He went to an area where he knew there was no signal and had no reboots. He's in the 300+ consecutive hours without it rebooting. I went home over the weekend and had no reboots. I took my phone to an area with no signal and had no reboots, even though I was there for a few hours with no signal.
So it can't just be a low signal thing. It has to be a tower thing. Tomorrow I'm going to the verizon store that has a tech to talk to them about it. If they can't help, I'm calling verizon to talk to someone. There is no other answer as to what's causing reboots than a tower problem. So they should be able to look at whatever tower my town is using and see what's not up to date/not like every other tower my phone has used and it should be fixable.
So hopefully tomorrow, I may have an answer as to what my tower's problem is causing the error and maybe Verizon will take that as proof and start doing something about it. Or at the very least, I can give you guys the information and you can make verizon verify if your tower is using that or not. For example, if they tell me my tower is update x, but the towers in neighboring towns are all y, then clearly update x has a problem with the Inc and you guys could get verizon to verify if your towers are x or y. Because I'll gladly put in as much effort as I can seeing as how I have proof, including pictures, that it's a tower problem.

I just came from a Verizon Corp. store and low and behold there is tech guy from HTC there showing the employees the ins and outs of the Inc. So we got into a discussion about the signal strength meter here is HTCs explanation on why it seems to be wrong. He claims as part of the power management system the phone when not in use meaning not making a call or connected goes into a minimum power mode that also effects the signal meter. He made a call on my phone to how how it works. Once the phone call is placed you immediately see the bars raise and the 3G come on after disconnecting the bars fall again once in the power saving stand by mode. So I guess its not defective after all just very smart.

Just downloaded "Real Signal" from the market and am trying to understand what the numbers mean. Tried searching here, no luck. Can someone point me to a good thread or a resource to help me understand what the #s mean? At home I get 2 bars and the battery lasts and lasts, at work I get 0 to 1 bar and the phone hunts for a signal, making the back of the phone very warm to the touch, eating battery like there's no tomorrow. I have it on 'airplane mode' right now but that sort of defeats the purpose of having it, might as well turn it OFF.

I had a motorola droid that I recently sold on ebay in order to purchase the Incredible and I was just wondering did anyone else here go from a droid to a incred. Is everything pretty similar other then the speed/camera of course? I know the complaints against the droid were battery life and signal which are the same Im hearing for the htc model but I figured out a way around those.
