Had the family over tonight and my brothers phone had four bars... some Samsung unit and my Dad's Motorola Droid had FIVE BARS.... My Incred had ZERO to 1 bar (occasionally)Wassup with that? The battery is definitely an issue already but how about you? How is your signal?

View 12 Replies View RelatedWe originally bought 5 for our business. Of those 5, 2 have been returned and exchanged for Blackberries. We continue to have terrible Signal Strength, and in 2 phones a very loud echo. All other little bugs aside, im looking for some answers. Since I didnt see any side by side tests, I thought I would
1. I tested the signal strength at 5 locations. All locations had great 3g speeds for all the phones. The first INC is an original phone, and the second INC is a replacement.
Droid Eris INC1 INC2

-85 -74 -101 -100...
My question is, how can i have GREAT 3g speeds with all the phones, yet have a terrible signal strength. I'm on my 2nd phone and still have the same issues. ( So its not a bad batch)
2. The first thing the other 2 users of the phones mentioned right out of the box there was a very defined echo. The echo was of their own voice, not the other person on the line. I've noticed it on and off, but nothing to bad. People also complain they can hear the echo, making us hard to hear on the phone. I really like the Incredible, but I guess unless someone from Verizon tells me to wait for an update, or someone here has a solution Im gonna have to go back to the Blackberry. Anyone else having the same problems?....
A poster said a week ago that basically putting one finger on the top left of your phone with a second on the lower left corner improves signal strength.
Well it works really well at my job (inside a big building) where I usually hover at 100db but using this method I get about 88-90db and adds 2 bars.
So my question is can I do something (or add something) that will duplicate that effect without having to hold my phone with a couple of fingers?
I can get a few minutes of 4G signal at my home per day, but when it drops out and 3G takes over, the signal will flatline and boot me offline. My 3G speeds are usually around 56-150Kbps or less, and my 4G speeds are around 2.5 Mbps What would cause this ? According to WiMax location sites online, my nearest 4G tower is .52 mile away. I would think that if I actually get 4G signal, then 3G would be constant. Turning off 4G doesn't help either. Is there some setting that I could have turned off that would cause this ? Running stock EVO on 2.2 all the latest updates
View 8 Replies View RelatedI want to reach out to others here before I take my Moment back to Best Buy to exchange it for another Moment.
My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
What more can be said The Incredible meter is totally defective. This is what I got today. Also by popular demand direct Db readouts on both phones. Here is the proof the HTC battery bar meter is 110% DEFECTIVE!

View 12 Replies View RelatedI 'm typically at work or home. At home i usually have between 1-2 signal bars (3g) on my Inc while my wife's blackberry has 3-4 bars. and while at work, i have 0-1 bars while my buddy 10 feet away with a moto driod has 3 bars in 3g. Does the Inc inherently have poor signal strength? or do i have a dud?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had stock 2.1, 2.2 OTA, Virtuous 2.7 and Virtuous 3.0 with custom kernal they offer. All have showed ~100dBm and usually 0-1 bars Now i installed Uncommon Sense 1.0 from the ROM Manager. Now it shows 6 full bars at all times. I checked in settings and I'm at about 64-70dBm In all of my years on Verizon i have never had good signal in this apartment. Id hate to jinx it by discussing it but what gives?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have seen it in a few ROM's with EVO Framework, namely Adrynalyne's Frankenrom_B6. The EVO has 6 bars in the signal meter and the Dinc has 4. If I am using a ROM that has the EVO Framework, Virtuous 2.2, can I MOD my Signal Meter to be this one? If so, where can I find this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhile at my house and playing with both the Incredible and X, I noticed that the Incredible had only one bar, while my X had full signal. My first reaction was, "I can't keep a phone that has poor service at my house!"
But after looking into it further, I found that the dbm was almost spot on for both phones. It turns out, it's probably a software issue regarding displaying the bars rather than an actual signal problem. My call quality has been great so far with no issues.
I had another thread, but my Inc has been having the rebooting problem. I have a network extender, but it apparently doesn't help the Inc until you're in a call. Now, my dad has the same phone and his has never rebooted. He went to an area where he knew there was no signal and had no reboots. He's in the 300+ consecutive hours without it rebooting. I went home over the weekend and had no reboots. I took my phone to an area with no signal and had no reboots, even though I was there for a few hours with no signal.
So it can't just be a low signal thing. It has to be a tower thing. Tomorrow I'm going to the verizon store that has a tech to talk to them about it. If they can't help, I'm calling verizon to talk to someone. There is no other answer as to what's causing reboots than a tower problem. So they should be able to look at whatever tower my town is using and see what's not up to date/not like every other tower my phone has used and it should be fixable.
So hopefully tomorrow, I may have an answer as to what my tower's problem is causing the error and maybe Verizon will take that as proof and start doing something about it. Or at the very least, I can give you guys the information and you can make verizon verify if your tower is using that or not. For example, if they tell me my tower is update x, but the towers in neighboring towns are all y, then clearly update x has a problem with the Inc and you guys could get verizon to verify if your towers are x or y. Because I'll gladly put in as much effort as I can seeing as how I have proof, including pictures, that it's a tower problem.
I just came from a Verizon Corp. store and low and behold there is tech guy from HTC there showing the employees the ins and outs of the Inc. So we got into a discussion about the signal strength meter here is HTCs explanation on why it seems to be wrong. He claims as part of the power management system the phone when not in use meaning not making a call or connected goes into a minimum power mode that also effects the signal meter. He made a call on my phone to how how it works. Once the phone call is placed you immediately see the bars raise and the 3G come on after disconnecting the bars fall again once in the power saving stand by mode. So I guess its not defective after all just very smart.
View 42 Replies View RelatedJust downloaded "Real Signal" from the market and am trying to understand what the numbers mean. Tried searching here, no luck. Can someone point me to a good thread or a resource to help me understand what the #s mean? At home I get 2 bars and the battery lasts and lasts, at work I get 0 to 1 bar and the phone hunts for a signal, making the back of the phone very warm to the touch, eating battery like there's no tomorrow. I have it on 'airplane mode' right now but that sort of defeats the purpose of having it, might as well turn it OFF.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had a motorola droid that I recently sold on ebay in order to purchase the Incredible and I was just wondering did anyone else here go from a droid to a incred. Is everything pretty similar other then the speed/camera of course? I know the complaints against the droid were battery life and signal which are the same Im hearing for the htc model but I figured out a way around those.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI work in a location where the phone is without a signal about 35%-40% of the time. Naturally, my battery suffers terribly and I often need to charge it sometime during the work day to ensure it makes it until bedtime. Due to firewall/security issues, my phone is my only way to get to my Gmail. I also spend a lot of time on the move, from meeting to meeting, so it's advantageous to leverage my Exchange sync. Typically, I'm able to get emails right away, as the signal drops in and out frequently as opposed to being completely unavailable for long stretches of time.
I guess what I'm looking for is a way to reduce consumption without reducing connectivity. I'm already shutting off GPS. I'm leaving Wifi on for now, as I've got rules on things like Tasker and Setting Profiles that rely on finding specific access points. What I've really been thinking about is having a Tasker setup that turns the Mobile Data Network on and off periodically (say, 1 minute on and 10 minutes off). Does that sound like a viable option? I've heard folks say turning the data network off can cause sync issues, but I'm hoping that turning it back on periodically will solve/prevent all that. Anyone have experience with something like this? Any other ideas for power savings, especially as it may be relevant to a low-signal environment? I also make sure I'm on auto-brightness and am more aggressive about screen timeouts.
whenever i'm at my friends house and his house is pretty much a dead zone for signal my Inc. seems to restart of turn off and turn right back on. It only happens at his house and i was wondering if it was because of an option to turn off in low signal areas to save battery.
View 10 Replies View Relatedso what the HELL is up wtih this? since froyo, i notice that even though my DBM's are staying EXACTLY THE SAME (btwn 85 and 95 in my house), my signal bars fluctuate LIKE CRAZY anywehre from zero bars, to 4 full bars (despite the fact it may be 95 dbm) and anywhere in between for a split second, then go back to their original.it never did this in 2.1.i'm also beginning to think if this fluctuating signal bar is correlating to our problems with TEXT TYPING LAG in froyo, as i'm starting to notice that when my lag occurs, my signal bars are fluctuating like idiots.anyone confirm this?so anyone know what sup with these fluctuating bars!?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWould an OTA update fix this problem? And I'm not necessarily talking the one that was mentioned here today. I can live with the battery issue until the extended battery comes out. I love this phone and don't want to send it back but I really might have no other choice. What are the chances that some update will improve the issue or is it a hardware issue that might never get resolved?
Also, anyone know how long you have with a phone till you can not port your number? I've been using the phone with a new number and still have my ATT Bold active. I don't want to port my number till I am sure I will be keeping the Incredible.
I am hoping that some of the signal issues in the Incredible are not present for the EVO. Has anyone compared their EVO with another Sprint phone? Is the signal the same? I know it may be a bit early to start this topic.
