View 49 RepliesI 'm typically at work or home. At home i usually have between 1-2 signal bars (3g) on my Inc while my wife's blackberry has 3-4 bars. and while at work, i have 0-1 bars while my buddy 10 feet away with a moto driod has 3 bars in 3g. Does the Inc inherently have poor signal strength? or do i have a dud?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI work in a location where the phone is without a signal about 35%-40% of the time. Naturally, my battery suffers terribly and I often need to charge it sometime during the work day to ensure it makes it until bedtime. Due to firewall/security issues, my phone is my only way to get to my Gmail. I also spend a lot of time on the move, from meeting to meeting, so it's advantageous to leverage my Exchange sync. Typically, I'm able to get emails right away, as the signal drops in and out frequently as opposed to being completely unavailable for long stretches of time.
I guess what I'm looking for is a way to reduce consumption without reducing connectivity. I'm already shutting off GPS. I'm leaving Wifi on for now, as I've got rules on things like Tasker and Setting Profiles that rely on finding specific access points. What I've really been thinking about is having a Tasker setup that turns the Mobile Data Network on and off periodically (say, 1 minute on and 10 minutes off). Does that sound like a viable option? I've heard folks say turning the data network off can cause sync issues, but I'm hoping that turning it back on periodically will solve/prevent all that. Anyone have experience with something like this? Any other ideas for power savings, especially as it may be relevant to a low-signal environment? I also make sure I'm on auto-brightness and am more aggressive about screen timeouts.
So far I have had bad luck with the signal/call quality. This is not just me not liking the number of bars but actually loosing all signal, not being able to make or receive calls, and it draining the crap out of the battery.Facts:
1) When outside, in my car, near the windows in buildings, the call quality is great
2) A Moto Droid in the same office gets acceptable signal and call quality
3) This is an issue anytime I'm in a building; Lowes, Walmart, the pet store, a mexican resturant... anything larger then my house.
4) My old iPhone never a problem in all of these places.
5) The side affect is it kills my battery life. I purchased the seido extended battery and it is always down to 30% by the time i leave work at 5pm (10 hours off the charger) On the weekends it lasts 40-60 hours no problem.
After talking with a Verizon Tech she told me they would send me a new phone. But due to the back order I won't get it before the end of the month. Which scares me since that puts me out of the 30 day return policy. So I asked her about that and she said this would extend it another 30 days. Which I wish I had in writing but heres for hoping this works because I love the phone when it works
I (like hundreds of others) have had a call quality problem with the two Droid Incredibles I purchased for my wife and myself when they were released on April 30th. Verizon recognized that there was a problem and replaced both devices with ones manufactured about a month later (5/02) and the same issue with poor voice quality continued.
We love the device EXCEPT for the lack of ability to understand callers. So, I asked Verizon to extend our 30-day opt out to give them an opportunity to work out the issues with this device. I just received a call from Verizon customer service (which I could barely understand) and was told they would not extend the 30 day period and my option was to live with the poor sound quality or switch to another device. Verizon has no other devices that were interested in at this time so well be canceling these two lines (and one other) and returning to T-Mobile. T-Mobile may not have the best coverage, but they do have great customer service, unlike Verizon.
I listen to long podcast//radio shows on my inc. Before the 2.2 update I could stop at any point and come back later and pick up where I left off. Now when I come back the audio restarts from the beginning. It's really annoying, anyone else have this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI had another thread, but my Inc has been having the rebooting problem. I have a network extender, but it apparently doesn't help the Inc until you're in a call. Now, my dad has the same phone and his has never rebooted. He went to an area where he knew there was no signal and had no reboots. He's in the 300+ consecutive hours without it rebooting. I went home over the weekend and had no reboots. I took my phone to an area with no signal and had no reboots, even though I was there for a few hours with no signal.
So it can't just be a low signal thing. It has to be a tower thing. Tomorrow I'm going to the verizon store that has a tech to talk to them about it. If they can't help, I'm calling verizon to talk to someone. There is no other answer as to what's causing reboots than a tower problem. So they should be able to look at whatever tower my town is using and see what's not up to date/not like every other tower my phone has used and it should be fixable.
So hopefully tomorrow, I may have an answer as to what my tower's problem is causing the error and maybe Verizon will take that as proof and start doing something about it. Or at the very least, I can give you guys the information and you can make verizon verify if your tower is using that or not. For example, if they tell me my tower is update x, but the towers in neighboring towns are all y, then clearly update x has a problem with the Inc and you guys could get verizon to verify if your towers are x or y. Because I'll gladly put in as much effort as I can seeing as how I have proof, including pictures, that it's a tower problem.
What more can be said The Incredible meter is totally defective. This is what I got today. Also by popular demand direct Db readouts on both phones. Here is the proof the HTC battery bar meter is 110% DEFECTIVE!
View 24 Replies View RelatedAnyone with similar experiences? Recently I started losing my 3G signal on occasion and restarting to get it back. Right now I don't have 3G and restarting did not help. Even my wifi signal will disappear leaving me with no internet and I will need to disable and re-enable wifi to reconnect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is because of Sprint or the EVO but in my house I barely get 1 bar of signal and people can barely hear me on the other end of the call. This is my first Sprint phone so I don't know if it is the service or not. I came from ATT and never had these issues with my iPhone before. I am a little concerned about whether I exchange phone or am I going to just have to give up on Sprint.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAnyone have an issue with there 3G and overall signal being very poor after the OTA update? Now not getting 3G or even 1x at times in my cube where before I had 3G all the time. Did a *228, reboot, battery pull and nothing seems to help.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have just got hold of a Tattoo on the Vodafone network and i am finding that at times the signal strength is very poor.
I am finding that in places i used my previous phone and had a good signal that the signal is dropping out or there is no signal at all.
This is very frustrating as whats the point in having a decent phone and not being able to use it?
Normally the Vodafone network signal is very good.
poor signal reception been fixed yet? I'm interested in buying either a new sim free desire, x10, or a blackberry bold 9700. Leaning more towards the desire, but the only thing holding me back is the poor reception problems people have been experiencing. I'm on orange, and based in the east midlands, UK. Not had bad reception in my area with other phones in the past, so if got the desire and did have problems, it would annoy me to say the least
View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a poor signal alot of the time. 1 or 2 bars is not unusual in places my old phone used to have full signal strength. It went on roaming for some reason in the shopping centre today. It is always on H or nothing. My old phone used to drop onto edge and GPRS if it didn't get a H signal. And what about 3G? An all singing all dancing phone is no good if it cant perform its main function.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have all the time poor wifi signal. When someone can see wifi network with 30% signal on a different phone, I can't see it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my incredible and the screen resolution seems poor. I just compared it to my droid and the droid looks super crisp whereas the incredible looks more like my old storm 1.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to decide between the Droid X and the Incredible. I found this link in the Droid X forum, regarding a potential cause for poor battery life. Could this issue be plaguing the Incredible as well?

I just got my Eris this past week and am loving the phone. I traded someone on Craigslist for it. My only complaint is that at my house I get poor reception. My family has Verizon and they don't complain about poor signal with their phones. I could never get a signal especially in my room (the basement) on my Samsung Rogue and it's the same thing with my Eris. Half the time I get 0 bars in my room. I sometimes only get 1 or 2 bars when I am at work. I did notice that when I was driving the other day it kept going from 3 bars down to 1 and back up to 2.
My Eris is not rooted or anything. I just got the phone, I'm afraid to root it cuz I might mess something up. So if someone can help me out that would be great. I tried dialing 228 and it didn't work.
I'm sure many of the "poor battery life" reports were pre-mature, as people didn't realize their new rechargable has to condition itself, but today I ran into a new situation. This is my second Droid, since replacing original, due to wanting to confirm a faulty antenna, and trying to solve the 3G->1x issue.
Reception at my house is a crap shoot, where moving my phone 6 inches on my desk make speed tests go from 1.5Mb to 300k. So today I'm at mom's, 2 miles away, and we are both equidistant from the VZ store, which is also 2 miles away. However at her house, I pretty much get (0) bars. I left my house with about a 95% charge, pulling it from the plug before I left. I used it maybe 15min to try to resolve her router issue. After 6 days, my battery was good for a at least 18-24hrs of light browsing and mail checking. Well today, It was down to 50% after 3 hours, while flipping back and forth from 3G ->1x. I had (0) bars most of the time and noticed that the battery was warmer than usual. Signal strength was between -95dBM and -110dBm. Now "almost" 5 hours after pulling from the plug, I'm down to 20%. If my hypothesis is correct, I bet the charge will last the night now that the channels have stabilized.
I have never had any problems at home with either my trusty unlocked N95 or Orange Sony Ericsson T610 (remember them?) so I had no qualms over ordering a nice shiny (dark brown) HTC Desire.
3G coverage is a bit iffy in the area as I'm right on the border of an excellent to good area so I never expected to have super fast data over the air, but I have wifi locally for that anyway.
So you can imagine my disappointment when the first call with the mobile from home cut off quite suddenly. A retry to reconnect failed with a no service message and no signal strength. I then spent the next hour playing around with the settings turning off wifi, data, setting the phone to 3G only (no chance) and then GSM only.
When the phone was working and making a call the audio was not clean and very digital. There was also a chance that mid call you would be cut off for no reason. When it wasn't playing ball at all the signal strength varied from three bars down to zero without moving the phone. Sometimes upon initiating the call it came back immediately with no signal and cutting the call off. Picking the phone up from sitting on the side in sleep mode you were usually presented with a no service message.
Orange were excellent and immediately replaced the phone, a courier arriving at 6:15pm upon reporting the problem at 8:30am that morning. Unfortunately the replacement was exactly the same.
Even worse, my place of work is in a designated poor reception area. There are a number of us on Orange as it is the only network that can at a pinch be picked up inside. My Desire...no signal at all. Moving to a window seat got me two bars but the phone refused to connect or hold a call. The only time it did calling 150 sounded like I was listening to a recording of a Darlek. A Nokia 5300 on Orange alongside was nice and clear, with very good tone by comparison.
By chance another member of staff also had recently signed up with Orange on a Desire (500mins, unlim texts, 500Mb, free phone, 20). In a back to back test both phones were the same. We even tried swapping SIMs. Luckily for him he has no problems with reception when at home so is quite happy with the Desire.
Contacting Orange again I did not get much further. Talking to technical support they were not much help and suggested that they did not warrant the phone to work inside the building and as I could make a continuous call outside then they did not class the phone at fault. This included my problems at home in what is termed an excellent coverage area! When I pointed out that two other phones I owned did work in the very same location I was told that mobile designs differ and positions of antennas vary considerably.
Frustrated I decided the only course of action was to use my right to cancel within 7 days as it was apparent that I was not going to be able to resolve the issue. Even last night it performed perfectly for a couple of calls and then failed miserably an hour later.
As a gadget I was smitten. Even as I handed the package over to the Post Master today I was inwardly screaming GIVE IT BACK! Unfortunately I need to be able to make calls on it when I want, not when it wants.
I have only seen a couple of other members note a similar problem on these forums but I have noticed a large number of Nexus problems that sound very similar. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this or do you all live in 5/5 coverage areas?
I'm getting dropped calls left and right on this damn phone.Everything else about it is perfect but what's a phone when you can barely use it to talk? Does anyone think this would be an easy fix or the EVO is the way to go?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm at my friends lake cabin, but the signal here is God awful. Nobody's phone can get a consistent signal, even on 1x. The nearest Verizon tower is a few miles away and it doesn't help that there are hills in the way. Text messages are the most reliable form of communication. But it keeps bouncing between 3g and 1x murdering my battery.
Its not huge deal since I'm doing stuff during the day, but browsing the web would be nice for killing downtime at night.
I would just like some tips on boosting a poor cellular signal. If it helps, we have a cellular booster attached to the TV antenna, and some tin foil.
I live in an area where I had GREAT reception on my Blackberry... since switching to the Incredible, I have a really hard time getting a good signal in my house. Calls drop when I'm talking to someone and the person on the other end of the phone fades in and out when I'm on a call.
View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody have experience with network extenders? Would it help preserve battery life in poor signal areas?
Also, has anybody used Sprint's Airave network extender? I get terrible service here in college, but back home (Suburban Chicago) Sprint has great 3G and even WiMax. My 2-year with Sprint is up in October, and with the EVO 4g coming out (+WiMax back home) I was wondering if an Airave would help my reception woes during the school year.
My download speeds have been roughly 512kps with full 3g reception (testing with the speed test app). I've tried *228 option 2 and the *22899 with no success. I have recently rooted but had the problem before that. That leads to my second question.I haven't called verizon yet, should I unroot before I do? If something similar has been posted im sorry, I could not find it. Is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my droid for 21 days now. The first week I was frustrated because I could not use my "backup assistant" which I have used for a long time to transfer my contacts. ( im sure they will come up with an "app" for that soon, and it works very differently than my old LG. Once I worked through the basics of using the phone I started to notice I have very poor reception at my home. (This is really bugging me because my husband has the FREE LG flip phone and has perfect service everywhere in the house) I buy the best and he gets the free phone and he talks anywhere but I have to go out on the back porch or stand by the back door with my head against the window in order to talk to somehone. Part of me really wants to return it for that reason alone, but I love the other features of the phone and don't know if I want to give them up. Has anyone else had issues with poor signal quality>
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had this phone long enough. It was cool compared to a dumb phone. But after a while, freezing, lag, phantom restarts, poor signal, and random switches have surpassed my patience.
I am going to switch to a Droid X. I heard good things. Few complaints. The HTC Inc. and Sam. Fascinate is nice but I'd rather not have a dead battery by noon everyday.
I am virtually unable to get a wifi signal in my house on my droid x unless I am a few feet away from my router. None of my other wifi devices in my house are having this issue. When I check my wireless settings on my dx it says the signal strength is poor. I'm running rooted GB 4.5.602. Does the baseband have to do anything with this (BP_C_01.09.13P)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI now understand that the strange red-eye housing over my camera lens, which looks so much like an android (or maybe an HTC engineer) after a long night of drinking, is purported as protection for the actual lens. Why HTC didn't just settle for a sliding blackout cover instead of this bulky lesion is anybody's guess. I know that it's relative permanence over my lense will certainly not protect my photos from any dirt and scratches which this protector picks up, so I have been extremely careful to keep it clean and un-scratched. What I suspect is that this lens cover may be responsible for some of my camera quality issues, such as high noise, a reddish tint which tends to flicker on and off, some periodic jerking of the autofocus (flashing out of focus) when you are hardly moving, and indoor shots which are much, much darker than life without the flash. Hey, I get that this camera, no matter how many megapixels they can list, doesn't come with a world-class sensor, but I would like to know from anyone with a background in photography what they think of my concern that even a clean, transparent cap can reduce the amount of light entering the actual lens, while adding its own reflective noise. The same with the opaque cylinder which surrounds the lens (the red eye housing), from a photo-quality standpoint is looks to me like it's only good for cutting the light. If removing this cover would make a significant difference, then it may still not be the best solution as it leaves the lens at risk, but I am still interested in any qualified opinions on how much this red-eye housing causes, if any. It may be good for the future of smart phone design if they see that they have educated consumers, who are paying attention to such possible problems.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was having issues with constant dropped calls from my house, which is in an area according to the Sprint coverage map that should have excellent coverage. I went to my Sprint store, which is a repair center, and they told me to go to menu>settings>Wireless controls>Mobile network settings>Roaming, and switch from Automatic to Sprint only. I did this, and have not dropped a call yet. The tech told me that depending on exactly where you are and where the nearest Sprint tower is compared to the nearest say Verizon tower, the phone will continuously try to switch between the two towers for the best signal when set to Automatic, and that can cause dropped calls, static calls etc. Ever since I switched this setting I have not dropped one single call or gotten any static, even with 0-1 bars for signal strength. He told me only use Automatic if you are in an area where your phone has no service due to no nearby Sprint tower.
