HTC Incredible : New To Setcpu - Need Much Processor Power At All When Screen Is Off?
Sep 19, 2010
First of all the highest setting i can see is 998 max. Is this all that Virtuous 2.7 allows for? I'm on custom kernal
Next, Do i really need much processor power at all when screen is off? Why cant i just dial this way down so the battery is barely being used when screen is off? (how low can i go and still have no issues with email/messaging sync?)
Right now I have "screen off" profile set to 284/245. Is this why there is a bit of lag when unlocking? And is did i just answer my own question above? Meaning is this the reason why its not good to crank it way down during screen off?

Is it safe to do Menu>Device Selection>Show Other Frequency Sets on my Droid and run it like a Nexus One 1gHz processor? I have a stock kernel and am currently at 800mhz after the autodetect.

I am a total noob to this. I have literally just started today. I know Java and have developed in Eclipse forever - I am just new to Android. So, I downloaded the SDK and ADT plugin. I even coded the Hello Android app with a simple textview and got it going. What I am surprised at is the amount of RAM and processing power that eclipse is hogging on 2 occasions: when running the AVD wizard when running the emulator In the first instance, eclipse just froze and ran out of heap space. I had to restart with a much higher -Xmx setting to let that thing run through. On 2) even when the emulator is just sitting and doing nothing, its taking up about 13% cpu power constantly. Even as I write, this, my emulator is running in the background and the windows task manager shows emulator.exe taking 13%. This is on my Core i7 laptop. So, I am pretty sure on my regular Core 2 computer, this thing will easily take upwards of 40% cpu. So that leads me to suspect: Have I done everything right? Is it like this for everyone?

I would like the screen to stay on (on whatever brightness it's normally set at) when connected to external power. I've found the Settings/Applications/Development "Stay Awake" checkbox, but the screen still dims down after 30 seconds, though it doesn't go completely off.Is there a way to keep the screen on?All the WinMo phones I had had two separate profiles one for on battery and one for when on a charger, and you could set the screen brightness and timeout independently for each power profile. The reason for this is that I have a dashmount cradle of sorts that I use, and I generally put the phone in it and plug it in when I'm driving any sort of distance. I do things like look at the phone signal, see if new mail comes in, etc. while driving, and it's just reassuring to look down at the phone and see it doing something without having to hit the power button.

I've heard that theae 2 processers are very similar but obviously there must be a few differences. Does anyone know where I can find a comparison between the 2 or can someone compare them for me here?I'm just curious really. Both are really good I hear.

This is a problem I've noticed lately that is just killing my battery life. My Incredible never dims on its own. If I press the power button the screen will shut off but lets say I get a text and then I hit the power button, the screen comes on. I respond to the text and then hit home and put my phone down on the desk. The screen will stay on indefinitely. Not charging, completely unplugged the screen will just stay on. Has anyone run accross this and does anyone have any ideas on how to get it to time out again?

I new here & new to Galaxy which i brought a month ago. I am running JC6 Drakaz. I wondering, may be this is a dum question but can the OSX of Iphone can be installed instead of Android. I thought few things are common like screen resolution, almost similar processor speed. With OSX you will get all multitouch, good performance and of coerce ITunes store.

Tried searching but havent found anything that specifically answers the question. I had heard that the processor was actually clocked down into the 700s out of the box even though its a 1ghz processor. Is this true? if it is about what are we running at?

I love SetCPU but I've noticed it's slow to recognize when the screen is on. My default setting is 1100/800 (on demand) and my screen off setting is 250/250 (on demand). Whenever I turn my screen on and it's been off for a little bit it's always at 250, even a minute later. What's more surprising is I'll go into the profiles, turn off the "screen off" profile, and it'll jump up to 1100. However, when I enable the profile, it goes back to 250, all while the screen is on.Any idea if this is something I can fix? I've tried making the "screen off" profile to 550/250 to shorten the gap but it didn't do anything.

The SetCPU isn't working correctly for me on my Incredible... though it works great on my Eris. The max it gives me is 998, and min 245. Changing them doesn't do a thing. I can't overlock it... whats going on? What did I miss?

I rooted my phone about 2 days ago and I did a nandroid backup, titanium backup, used titanium backup to freeze some of the bloatware.. Have not yet installed any ROMs or Kernels. I got SetCPU and made several profiles in an attempt to increase my battery life. I wanted to see if it was working so I set up a widget, and despite the fact that my battery was at 20% (I have a <25% battery profile setting) the max was still 998

Loved the app for the G1, since it was capped and setcpu got it to run at max speed. Ditto for Droid, since it was also capped and the OMAP had plenty of ceiling for more speed. The Snapdragon is already designed to dynamically scale from 245mhz to 1ghz, so what good are the settings, if Snap is already detecting resource needs and adjusting clock accordingly? This function is built into the die and seems no need for software augmentation.I appreciate insight, since some of the posts I have been seeing may suggest something that Snap already was designed to do and is built into the hardware.all of the needed polling that must happen through software for profile conditions may offset any gain as well. Seems inefficient managing via software, when the chipset already dynamically manages- unless Snap does a poor job in the first place.

I cant find anything about the question im asking. I am running SR 2.5.2 with OC hydrakernel #2. Im still new to rooting and kernels. So my question is if i flash kingxkernel do i need to use SetCPU in order to overclock? I know hydrakernel you dont and from what i see on just monitoring my cpu that it does in fact go up to 1.15 on its own. I want to flash kingxkernel and try it but dont know if it will just do its job or if i need increase the cpu once its on my phone. I like the way i dont have to mess with hydrakernel since i dont know much about the settings on setcpu.

Found using these two apps from the market allows me to hardly ever have to use the power button (only for power off/on situations). Which is great because I know there has been reported issues of the button sinking in.

I'm wondering if there is another way to wake up the screen besides pushing the power button every time? Is this an Android thing? I believe my roommates Droid does the same thing. I think there are similar threads for this I just suck at searching this forum So are there any alternatives to waking up our screens on the Evo without using the power button every time?

I don't know what I have done, but the power button on the top, which I used to be able to press to turn off the screen, no longer works. I can use it to turn on the screen. And I can hold it on to power down, airplane mode, etc. But pressing it once does nothing when the screen is lit up. I have tried wiping all data from the boot menu. This restores the functionality, but when I restore all my data and apps (MyBackupPro) the problem returns.

How to customize the charging screen of the phone when the power is off. For example, I have a Galaxy Note 2 running Jellybam and every time I turn the power off and plug it to a charger it friezes at the charging screen where there's a turning circle. Therefore, I just want to find away to get rid of the old charging screen and add a new one to try to fix the problem. Where the charging screen files locate in the root and where can I find the custom one to replace it. I've tries Nomoarpower from Chainfire but it seems doesn't work even the system files are installed as after the power is off it always brings me back to the frozen charging screen instead of the new one.

Anyone else having this problem? When I press the power button to turn on the screen sometimes it doesn't happen. This happens maybe once a week. I'm guessing it's a software issue possibly because when I push the button to put my screen to sleep it always works. Also, the same thing happened to my old iPhone 3g all the time.

I have a pattern unlock on my Samsung Galaxy S 19000. If I want to lock my screen manually I simply press the power button briefly which works fine. I now use a skin on my phone which doesn't allow for easy access to this power button so I'm wondering if there's an app that I can use to lock my phone screen without having to press the power button. I have looked at "lock 2.0", however, it seems to be more for actually unlocking the screen.

I'm a recent convert to Android from WinMo. With my old phone, it was recommended to turn the phone off several times a week when recharging. On the forums here though, I noticed that most people don't. Is it not necessary with this OS?
