HTC Incredible :: How Long Does It Take To Root - Get A Custom Rom - How Hard Is It?
Sep 8, 2010I have never rooted before. I am not a software engineer and do not want get involved in lots of minutia and typing and small steps I could screw up.
I am ok with downloading some files and say a 15 minute process, but don't want to go hunting and pecking for various files strewn across the internets, and if I miss 1 or a step or type a wrong letter my phone is a brick
Is rooting for me? how long will it take me? is it a giant pita?
I would root to get better battery life, remove bloatware, and free hotspot

May 16, 2010I have noticed this with HandBrake in the past, but why does it take so long to encode a video? I have an .AVI file of Edge of Darkness and it is going to take over 3 hours to encode. Why is that? I can take a movie DVD, rip and burn it in less than an hour.

Nov 7, 2010I know a lot of people have been experiencing 4-5 hour time periods for charging the phone. If you want to cut that down to 2 hours or possibly less, just follow my fix steps!
1. Plug phone in
2. Turn Phone Off
3. Wait 5 seconds
4. Turn Phone On
Voila! But i still do the turning the phone off to get the full charge thing. Hope this helps you all!

When I was talking to Tech Support when my first Inc was having problems he told me it was best to charge a full 24 hours the first time. May 12, 2010When I view videos it takes a very long time to buffer and when it does it gets about 5 seconds worth then has to buffer more. Is there away for it to download it better instead of stopping every few seconds to buffer more. This way it can be smoother. There has to be some way to do it my storm that didnt have no where near as much memory played them better.

1) Is there a way to avoid notification sounds to take place during media playback, mainly music player, without having to change my sounds profile to silent, or vibrate?

Nov 30, 2010I had a rooted Incredible using this method before however I had a problem with the on screen keyboard so I got a replacement. The replacement just came yesterday. Now I am rooting the replacement and the Unrevoked 3 program gets stuck at "Waiting for root... (Safe to restart if this doesn't work)"
I have the HBOOT drivers installed and my phone comes up in device manager as "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Did they apply a new update to the phone that prevents rooting? If so how long before I can get around it?

Aug 13, 2010So I was reading about the upcoming (maybe) 2.2 OTA. The poster said something like, "Make sure to root with Unrevoked forever before installing the OTA, or you might not be able to root again (at least for awhile)".
Is this true?
Can I root with "Unrevoked Forever" and install the 2.2 OTA (not a leaked version, but the actual version that actually comes over the air?). I don't want any custom roms or custom radios or anything, just the 2.2 OTA and the ability to install custom roms in the future (namely 3.0 if it ever comes out).
So do I need to use "Unrevoked Forever", or risk never being able to root after installing 2.2 OTA?
