HTC Incredible :: Can I Answer Phone With Trackball
May 3, 2010
Which i hate, my Eris did it and it would get pressed in my pocket when i didnt hear/feel the vibrate.
I would love it if this phone only answered calls with the "answer" or "decline" buttons.

So my gf is having a weird problem with her phone. When she wants to play with the inc, she can swipe the screen down fine to unlock it, but if a call comes in, she can swipe it to answer for the life of her, and she is getting very annoyed. Anyone else having this problem? Is there another way the phone can be answered? I have tried a hard reset and no dice. Please help before she throws it out the window.

I currently have an Eris and am looking at the Incredible. My Eris is very prone to pocket dial and answer. Does anyone see this on the Incredible?

The one thing which I hate about Sense is the ridiculous swipe to answer feature when the phone is locked, I found Easy Answer Button and My Phone Tools. I used both but with limited success. It seems that with either one of those apps installed, I would constantly miss calls. The phone simply wouldn't ring and/or vibrate. I have my phone set to ring and vibrate when I receive calls. When using My Phone Tools, the first few seconds of the ringtone would play, and then it would be stop abruptly. With Easy Answer Button, the results were even worse: I would receive a call and the phone would not ring or vibrate. Of course, this didn't happen every time I received a call. But, when using these apps, a day didn't go by where I didn't miss a call because my phone simply didn't ring.
For those Incredible owners who have used either one of these apps, I'm wondering about your experience with them. Have you experience a similar problem with your phone not ringing/vibrating? I'm trying to determine whether or not it's just me or another app I have installed on my phone. It's been a day since I uninstalled Easy Answer Button and I have yet to miss a call. This leads me to believe that it's one of those two apps. Also, are there any other apps out there with a similar functionality? I'm currently running stock 2.2 (rooted, s-off), and not too interested in running stock vanilla. But I am wondering what other options to the slide to answer feature are out there.

On my incredible, the home, menu, back, and search notations on the body of the phone below the screen and above the trackball are not illuminated 95% of the time. If I am in the dark the notations are illuminated for a while, even when in a bright room. Then they go dark again.
Questions: Is there a setting I can adjust which can illuminate these notations all the time? Is this normal behavior?

This has happened a couple of times: I have the phone in my pocket and it's screen is locked, I get a call and the slide to unlock screen is there, but nothing will work for me to answer the call. No sliding in any direction will work, if I press a button it just sends the call away. I end up having to call them back.

I am so sick of having my phone ring while it is in my pocket and then when I go to take it out of my pocket to check and see who it is it ends up answering the call because it swipes down.

Has it always been "Slide down to answer call"? I could have sworn that I used to have two buttons, answer and decline....did I change a setting somewhere?

I heart my Incredible, and I hope this was just a weird one time glitch.I saw a missed call from my boss, so I tried to call back. The call connected, but I couldn't hear her and she couldn't hear me.Tried several more times, tried another number, etc. Each time, call goes through, but no sound on either end.So I draw upon my Blackberry habits, and pull the battery.Phone boots up, I make a call, and everything is working fine.Any ideas what happened? It worked last night, and the only thing I've done since then is install Handcent.could that have caused an issue? Or is there a setting I've inadvertently changed that got reset when I pulled the battery out?

Currently, if the phone is locked and you receive an incoming call, you have to swipe down to answer it. For whatever reason this happens in my pocket at times. Is there a setting or an app that adds a swipe pattern, removes the swipe and maps it to a button, or any other method that would make it harder for my pocket to achieve?

Is anyone using or aware of an alternative way to answer calls? The 'swipe down' mechanism doesn't work well for me since I often end up inadvertently hanging up while taking the phone out of my pocket. I think the Droid/Nexus One had answering screens that let you swipe sideways. Is there such an app available for the Inc?

Does anyone know if there is a tab button (or functional equivalent) for switching between form fields on a webpage. For example, when I log into a site the keyboard comes up for me to enter my login name. After I enter it I have to minimize the keyboard, click on the password box, enter the password, and then press enter. I've noticed that the trackball works a bit but is there an easier way?

I was wondering if there is an option to setup "auto answer" (like if my phone is connected to my car via bluetooth) for incoming calls. My old phone (LG Dare) had an option to auto-answer the call after the second call, not sure if there's an option for this (I tried looking under advanced bluetooth settings).

I have been getting some lag on my droid incredible. Does anyone else get lag if they switch the screens with the optical trackball? If I switch homescreens back and forth with the trackball I get glitchy lag. Also the app tray is laggy. I also notice lag in the game doodle jump. Whats causing this.

Occasionally, a couple times a month, my Moto Droid will ring, the phone app pops up... but there are no sliders to answer. It rings and rings, and about the time that it's going to go to VM, the sliders will finally appear. Sometimes I miss the call, other times I can get it. More often, it will ring, and either the phone app doesn't show up at all, or it shows up but then disappears (phone goes black). I have to manually unlock the phone (I have gesture security), and then I can usually get to it. if the phone has gone black, I fumble around with hitting the power button, shaking it (I have screebl), touching the screen and finally the gesture screen comes up. Kinda feels like multitasking/processor priority issues they haven't elegantly worked out yet, but I wanted to see if this sounded familiar. Any apps that make it so that when the phone rings, processor priority is handed to the phone? I don't see the app killing other apps, just downgrading their priority to (nearly) zero until you're done with your call, or even just until you have answered your call. The flaw is just in the answering part. When a call comes in, I want my *phone* to be super responsive to that *phone* part of things, y'know?

The one complaint I have about the Nexus One is the difficulty in swiping to answer a call. There have been similar complaints about the Droid. (See this thread: Problem swiping to answer Droid phone calls .) Is there a solution for the Nexus One? When the phone is ringing, I just want to press the top button to answer. Can this be programmed? I don't have Bluetooth headset yet, but I assume I can at least answer from that when I have it on. Is that right?

I was wondering if theres any sort of setting or app i can use that would allow me to answer a phone call without putting in my pattern. It gets in the way during those "photo finish" call answerings where you push the button right before it goes to voice mail.

Is there another way to answer calls when phone is locked other than dragging the unlock bar? It's getting harder and harder to answer calls because the it seems the vibrate lags the unlock bar. My phone?? Or is this something that can be fixed.

Recently I've noticed that I accidentally answer phone calls without realizing it while the phone is in my pocket.Callers then hear the rustling of my phone rubbing the inside of my pocket.I've read that when the Droid X's screen is off, I should have to slide to answer a phone call. However, even when my screen is off and the slide to unlock and pin number lock are active,I am still presented with two buttons when I get an incoming call. This happens regardless of whether people call my regular phone number or my Google Voice number.I have LauncherPro installed.Am I missing something?I'd like to have the slide to answer feature so I don't unknowingly answer phone calls.

When I receive a call on my Captivate, I have to use the home button to answer. There is a big pretty button on the left that has a green dot with a phone icon that you would think would answer it but it doesn't. Is there a setting somewhere, or a fix for this? Red button on the right with the phone icon hangs up, so you would think the green button would answer.

I have a Droid and it has worked perfect answering calls, until now. I just installed LauncherPro and now when I receive incoming calls I can no longer slide and answer calls. No matter what I do, the screen will do nothing other than show incoming calls and the slider, but the slider will not slide.
Is there anyway to answer phone calls (other than auto answer) without using the slider?

My current idea is to purchase a used pay phone and somehow connect it to my cell phone so that I can place and receive calls. I know of devices that can be connected to landlines but they require their own phone number and I don't want to add a line. Are there any devices that I could use Bluetooth to send my call into the landline phone?

I have to call back about one out of 3 callers because when I try to slide the answer button, something goes wrong and the screen to answer disappears without answering the phone. the phone continues to ring, but I can't answer it.
1) Is there an app to change the answering options?
2) is there a way to get the slide screen back so I can answer?

I'm trying to write an app that will run when the phone rings but NOT answer the incoming call. The app would have an answer button that when pressed would perform the regular call answer action, but this isn't what I need help with. I've searched the internet and haven't been able to find any consensus on this issue. My app only needs to run during the call ringing stage and nothing more. What would I have to listen for to do this and what manifest entries would I need? Forgive my incorrect/nonexistant use of terminology, I haven't worked with Android in close to a year and haven't freshened up fully yet.
