HTC Incredible :: Accidental Discovery Camera

May 11, 2010

I remember reading that you could touch the screen to show the camera where you wished it to focus. I was trying that and in holding the focus spot on the screen after a second or so the camera snapped the shot. No push of track thingy. Replicated. Did I just miss this info? I was really surprised. For me, this makes the shot really steady and clear.

HTC Incredible :: Accidental Call Answers - Lock?

May 9, 2010

I hate belt clips/holsters and have always carried my phone in my pocket. Whenever I receive an incoming call on my incredible, the action of pulling it out of my pocket answers the call 99% of the time. I cannot screen any calls as a result and on one occasion, while driving, I had a hard time getting the phone out of my pocket and, unbeknown to me, the caller could hear me grumbling about it, so the call was picked up while still in my pocket even.

I've tried orienting the phone differently in my pocket (upside down, right side up, screen out, screen in), but the result is always the same. I've searched and searched the forum and the internet, but cannot find a way of locking my phone so that a button needs to be pressed for call answers instead of the screen swipe. Am I the only one having this issue? Is there a workaround that I don't know about?

Android : Delete Discovery Channel App?

Sometime yesterday Discovery Channel announced the availability of their application for Android. Has anyone been able to find it? Following the link provided in their official twitter feed led me to a 404, and Marketplace searches yield nothing for me. I'm on Droid Eris.

Android : How To Discovery A Bluetooth Headset

Aug 17, 2010

I write a sample code to discovery a Bluetooth headset(jabra BT2035). referece http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/wireless/bluetooth.html#DiscoveringDevices

But it can only discovery my notebook computer. If my notebook computer enables Bluetooth and sets Enabling discoverability.

The SDK document snippet:

android.bluetooth.device.action.FOUND"
public static final String ACTION_FOUND
Since: API Level 5
Broadcast Action: Remote device discovered.
Sent when a remote device is found during discovery. I think the remote device means a remote notebook computer except a Bluetooth headset. Could someone please help with this?

Motorola Droid :: Interesting Discovery About Soft Keyboard

Nov 10, 2009

There has been a lot of discussion on Engadget about whether the soft keyboard has multi-touch. Engadget insists no, and Rob here insists yes.I think I discovered where the problem lies. Josh at Engadget was saying that you had to release one key before pressing another or they would not both register. Rob said in his review that you COULD press them at the same time and both would register. I think I found out that both are right.I did some experimenting and would love to see whether others come to the same conclusion. It seems that when the keys are far enough apart (more than a couple of keys away), then you can, indeed, press the second before the first is released and they both register.BUT, if the keys are close to each other, it will not do this. You have to release one key before pressing the other.I think this must be to avoid accidentally hitting two keys with one finger. So, whether you think this is a good feature or too much babysitting of our typing abilities, it does seem intentional.

HTC Droid Eris :: Accidental 3 Way Call?

Dec 21, 2009

I am a new user and this could have been some bizzare newb thing I have to look out for, but this was odd. I was talking to a friend (friend #1) for a while (no headsets or anything, just holding against the ear). Near the end of our 30 min talk, I hear another voice. Thought it was just some racket in the background, hung up on friend #1, and on the line was friend #2. Friend #2 says 'who was that you were talking to, I heard the whole conversation.'

That freaked me out. Anyone accidentally do this? I doesn't seem that all the buttons you'd need to do a 3-way call would have actually be done in sequence with me not knowing and talking on the phone. What if this happened during a business call or something. I felt like I was in that Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George are on the phone and the girl on the other end of the phone heard the whole conversation.

Is there a setting somewhere on the phone where I can change it to when I get a call the screen goes blank faster?

Motorola Droid X :: Camera VS HTC Incredible Camera

Jul 17, 2010

So I spent the last hour or more in my backyard in 107 degrees taking pictures of flowers at stock settings with both phones. NOT an easy task I will tell you that. My back hurts, but besides that... I did my best to show the best quality of BOTH cameras, because they are both great. I realize that not everyone will agree with me, or will think I messed with something in my pictures. But these are all completely stock settings, not messed with at all. I only touched the flash on/off button.

My decision is I like the X camera better, it is easier to focus, and much snappier. Plus designated camera button! I found on the Incredible while the pictures look great on the phone itself and in gallery, that as soon as they were uploaded the colours looked washed out and not as great. I know this is due to the AMOLED screen. But both overall great. My decision is the X though.

Samsung Fascinate :: Accidental Factory Reset

Sep 16, 2010

So I was trying to reboot my phone--I turned it off, then in a attempt to boot it back up, I held down the power button for a bit, perhaps longer than I should have. Maybe I even pressed it a few times, I dunno. The next thing I saw was it asking for my password. I had just set up my Outlook account (I knew other had problems with this) and I was required to add a password for security. After entering the password, the next thing I knew it was hard resetting! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Of course I had just gotten the phone set up how I wanted it.

Am I the only one who made this mistake? Whose brilliant idea was it to program a hard reset to launch by simply holding the power button for a few seconds? Of course there's no way to undo a factory reset. Needless to say, I am VERY unhappy right now.

HTC Magic :: Accidental Dialing With Wired Headset

Feb 18, 2010

I just upgraded my dream to a magic, and I have only one complaint. On the dream, when listening to music, a quick double tap of the wired headset button would skip songs. On the magic it appears to dial the last person I spoke to! It's hard to break the habit of trying to skip songs with this button, and annoying if I have to take my phone out of the sleeve and unlock it every time. Does anyone know if there's a way to change this? I've found no preferences for the music player or the headset. I'm using the stock headset and the HTC Sense version of the music player.

Motorola Droid :: Accidental - Activate Search Feature

Dec 14, 2009

This may have already been discovered but this weekend while holding my Droid I stumbled upon a cool (maybe useless) feature. If you have the "Google Search" shortcut on your home screen like I do, all you have to do is lightly shake the Droid to activate the search feature. You have to be on the same home screen as the Google Search shortcut. The weird thing is I cannot reproduce my findings 100% of the time. For instance, this morning it worked 7 out of 10 times.

Samsung Moment :: Accidental Speaker / Mute Press While On Call

Dec 1, 2009

I don't know how many others are having this problem, but I hit the mute and/or speaker button frequently while on a call. Is there any way to remove these buttons from the dial screen? The proximity sensor "works" but not in the sense that it works on the iphone. The screen takes several seconds to dim and then can pop on at any time during the call allowing these buttons to pressed with my cheek. Many many times, the speaker has been activated in an environment where it should not be. Are there any apps to prevent this, or do I have a bad proximity sensor? Does the fact that I hold the phone on the left side of my face effect this at all? (most people hold on the right) The last time I tried other advice of pressing home button, the phone has opened a self service apps and was about to start programming itself by the time I got off the phone.

HTC Incredible :: Still Camera Capabilities

Sep 6, 2010

I took several shots of the same inanimate subject (Crayons) at different ISOs under "perfect" light conditions. I also took several shots of a different inanimate object (baby chew toy) under slightly less "perfect" light conditions (namelly I moved about 6 feet deeper into my house). All 100% crops. No retouching of any kind. The shots can be found here:

HTC Incredible Shot Comparison - Imgur

regretfully imgur removed the file names. But to give you an idea, the shots taken of crayons taken @ ISO 100, 200 and even 800 were nothing to write home about, but photographically acceptable. Noise is visible at all ISOs and @ ISO1250 things fall apart at the 100% scale (chromatic aberration, destructive noise, etc.). The chew toy shots were very telling. Light conditions were good and yet the camera had a hell of a time focusing. Took me several tries to get an acceptably in-focus shot at each ISO. And then I tried photographing my kids. In short, the came failed miserably, in every setting, to get a decent picture: this due to the fact that shutter speed cannot be changed (but this is a HUGE, drawback as it this pretty much puts taking pictures of moving subjects out of the question). Even though children portraiture is a challenge even with pro equipment, my piss-poor point-and-shoot can get a few remarkable pictures of the kids (posing) and yet the Incredible built-in camera could not get a correct focus reading to save its life.

IVMHO, it's a nice add-on camera but with severe photographic drawbacks when photographing moving objects (or even inanimate objects under less than perfect conditions).

HTC Incredible :: Camera Freeze

It's only happened a few times, I was just wondering if anyone else has hit this same snag? Anyway I'm glad to be on here and hope I can learn a thing or two from you guys about this phone. I converted from an LG Dare and finally decided it was time for a real phone.
