HTC Hero :: Won't Connect To Pc On Vista
Sep 24, 2009
This is winding me up. When i first got the phone I could only get it to work with the HTC Sync that was on the memory stick a i mounted the sd card. Today due to problems I have rested the phone to factory default AND installed a clean version of window vista home premium 32bit edition. I connected the htc to windows and nothing happened!! No notifications or anything, so i downloaded the latest HTC Sync and installed it, connected the phone and nothing happened. I want to get photos off the phone but can't at the moment.

I did a quick search to try to avoid repeating questions that I have been answered before, but I couldn't find anything relevant. I've tried to connect my BH2 to two different Vista PCs, the USB icon on the upper left corner of the BH2 shows up, but I am not given any mounting notifications that I presume are suppose to pop up on the phone? The PCs don't recognize the device anywhere and I've formatted the SD card before. Am I missing a step (or driver) here?

An Android Dev Phone G1 has attempted to be set up to access the internet by connecting to an ad hoc wireless network. The ad hoc Wifi network has been set up on a computer running Vista and can be seen from other computers and connected to successfully. However the network does not appear in the list of Wifi networks to connect to from the G1. The G1 does display other Wifi networks and can connect to those successfully. Does anyone know how to successfully connect a G1 to a Vista machine over an ad hoc Wifi network?

I am trying to use "adb -d shell" command to start a shell on device (android dev 1 phone ) from my vista command line. But whenever I try giving such command it does not open any shell or interaction on the phone device. But instead it goes to the next line in the cmd as '$'. any help would really appreciable. I have installed adb_usb_windows.
Previously I used work well with the emulator. Using adb command never troubled me. But now with new device, I am not able to open a shell using adb -d shell command on the phone.

Has anyone tried using HTC Sync to synchronise Outlook Calendar and Contacts with the Hero on Vista (Ultimate)? I have had great problems getting the phone and PC/Laptop to recognise each other, despite turning off Firewall and Antivirus and allowing HTC Sync to run as Administrator. I have only got it to work once on my Laptop, despite uninstalling and reinstalling, and I only got it to work a second time on my PC after several reboots. I don't have problems synching other devices (Treo 650 and TomTom) so I don't think it is a hardware problem.
If you use Categories for Calendar entries in Outlook then watch out, as the Hero Calendar does not support them and deletes them all, which resulted (for me) with a lot of duplicate entries in Outlook. One-way syncs (PC -> Hero) might be the only solution if I want to keep Categories. Other than that, the phone is great. I am sure that the inevitable teething problems will be sorted out soon.

After installing HTC Sync from the HTC website (v.2.0.4), and connecting my Hero via USB, my Hero cannot find HTC Sync on PC, although it is installed, and I have restarted my PC. After the "Finding HTC Sync on your PC" message, I get an error message saying: "Unable to find HTC Sync on your PC. Please make sure that HTC Sync is installed and opened on your PC [which it is]".

I've got no wireless network at work, but sometimes want to connect my ipod touch to the itunes store to get new tunes. I've heard it's possible to use the 3G on my hero to route my ipod touch and get online - is this true? And if so, anyone know how it's done?

I just got my Hero (which is also my first Android phone ) yesterday and I'm absolutely unable to properly install "HTC sync".I downloaded it from the HTC page carefully follwing the instructions, on a 32bit Vista (intel quad core+ 4 gig ddr2) and on a netbook (Msi wind + 2gig ddr2) with win XPsp3, but while everything on the phone's screen sems OK and it says that the phone is connectd via USB, the window of HTC sync has the "connect now " buttons grayed out, and the icon in the tray says "disconected".Itis a driver problem, because every time I try to install the drivers I get the message that says "Error" and that some files are missing.I am also unable to uninstall the drivers because I get the same message.I tried everything: the repair installation , to uninstall, and reinstall, but nothing seems to work.

I am currently having issues installing my G1 in development mode on Vista 64 Premium SP1. I have tried both installing the drivers that come with the latest SDK and also the ones here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446274.
Whenever I plug the phone in it comes up as an unknown USB device under device manger. When I go to update driver and point the installer at the correct driver location it either says 'the device driver is up to date' or when using the have disk option it says 'the folder specified does not contain a compatible software driver for your device'.

I have a Ubuntu 8.10 box with everything including Eclipse working perfectly, both the emulator and USB connection to my ADP1... works perfectly!
But I decide to inflict Vista on myself by attempting to get Eclipse and ADT working on my Vista laptop.
I set up Vista with Eclipse and installed the Android plug-in... but... the only thing NOT working is the USB connection using the exact same USB cable to the exact same ADP1.
Everything including the emulator is just fine, but no USB to ADP1.
Here is the message I get when I try to use the ADB command line: ----------
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:UsersJohn>adb version Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.20 <---- (Same version as on the Linux box)
C:UsersJohn>adb shell * daemon not running. starting it now * * daemon started successfully * error: device not found
C:UsersJohn>adb shell error: device not found
C:UsersJohn>
And to top it all off, the Device Manager shows the ADP1 sdcard as a USB mass storage device. but won't let me install the USB driver over the Microsoft version.

My computer with vista x64 has about a 50% success rate at recognizing when I hook up my Moment via USB. I've installed the Samsung USB driver for mobile phones v1.3.150.0, as well as the Samsung New PC Studio software. I have debugging checked, tried different USB ports, etc, and the only thing that seems to work is power cycling the phone. android 2.1. I suspect this has something to do with the "Abnormal Disconnect" error I keep getting from pdanet.

I am trying to install the new update that a rep at sprint told me to install using the SWupdate tool and I have a problem.
When I connect the phone when its NOT in download mode the USB composite device is detected and works. Everything is okay.
When in download mode, it will NOT work. The device is detected but it gives me the (The device cannot start) Code 10.
I have tried hundreds of things, including formatting and reinstalling a XP version on my comp.
I have drivers, PC Studio, EVERYTHING is not working...

When I plug my HTC Hero (UK) into my laptop, it used to in the notifications bar offer me Mount SD Card (or something similar) and connect to HTC Sync. Now when I plug it in, all it does is charge the phone with neither of those things being offered. Can anyone tell me why my phone is doing this and how to rectify it? I don't want to do a hard reset as all my contacts are on my phone and sync, and if that doesn't solve the issue, then I wont be able to pull my contacts back onto the phone.
My PC also comes up with USB Device Not Recognized and says it is an unknown device. I'm not great with computers so I don't know if that's relevant or if it helps.

I have just bought an HTC Desire but i cant make the sync with HTC sync work. After af search of approximatitely 15 seconds a popup on the phone says that it can't find HTC sync on the computer. The USB connection works fine for file sharing. In my hardware monitor (dont know the english word for the window, but that in Control Panel -> System ->??? where you can see all attached devieces) i see a deveice called "My HTC" with a yellow exclamation triangle. I suspect the problem is here, but dont know has to solve it. The HTC sync has all button disabled so i cannot access the "Repair tool" i think there is in the sync manager.
- Disable all firewall(none), antivirus (Norton) and Spyware protection (AdAware) before installing HTC sync.
- Used "Run" -> "msconfig" to disable all non-MS processes and remove all starting app. Then restarted the computer and reinstalled (suggest to HTC to another user)..........

I just picked up a Moto Droid X coming from the Droid Eris what a difference. For some reason it takes a very long time for my Win Vista laptop to be able to connect to the SD card. When I pull down the notifications bar and select USB storage, it takes about 5 minutes for the process to complete?I have checked to see if the Droid X has issues on a WinXP machine and it mounts right away. I have downloaded the Moto drivers, but wondering if anyone else has had issues with Win Vista.

This has been driving me nuts since I got the phone. It would almost connect to my machine then just bog down and fail. Someone mentioned using a better USB cable and I tried it out of desperation. It WORKS! Apparently the USB cable that ships with the Epic 4G is kinda crappy. I plugged in the brand new cable and it just plain worked.
