Motorola Droid :: USB Connection On Vista

Anyone else having problems "mounting" USB to Vista? I can do it on my old XP desktop but not my newer Vista laptop.
I have a Ubuntu 8.10 box with everything including Eclipse working perfectly, both the emulator and USB connection to my ADP1... works perfectly!
But I decide to inflict Vista on myself by attempting to get Eclipse and ADT working on my Vista laptop.
I set up Vista with Eclipse and installed the Android plug-in... but... the only thing NOT working is the USB connection using the exact same USB cable to the exact same ADP1.
Everything including the emulator is just fine, but no USB to ADP1.
Here is the message I get when I try to use the ADB command line: ----------
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:UsersJohn>adb version Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.20 <---- (Same version as on the Linux box)
C:UsersJohn>adb shell * daemon not running. starting it now * * daemon started successfully * error: device not found
C:UsersJohn>adb shell error: device not found
C:UsersJohn>
And to top it all off, the Device Manager shows the ADP1 sdcard as a USB mass storage device. but won't let me install the USB driver over the Microsoft version.
This has been driving me nuts since I got the phone. It would almost connect to my machine then just bog down and fail. Someone mentioned using a better USB cable and I tried it out of desperation. It WORKS! Apparently the USB cable that ships with the Epic 4G is kinda crappy. I plugged in the brand new cable and it just plain worked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a Moto Droid X coming from the Droid Eris what a difference. For some reason it takes a very long time for my Win Vista laptop to be able to connect to the SD card. When I pull down the notifications bar and select USB storage, it takes about 5 minutes for the process to complete?I have checked to see if the Droid X has issues on a WinXP machine and it mounts right away. I have downloaded the Moto drivers, but wondering if anyone else has had issues with Win Vista.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI ran into the first problem with my Droid- and I am sure it is not the Droid itself. I am running Vista32- I have Motorola Media Link installed. When I plug my Droid into the PC, I get a mass storage device that installs OK most of the time, and an "unknown device".. Even when I mount the SD from the phone, I still see no Drive in my computer The unknown device never installs. I have tried almost every suggestion i have seen.. reboot pc..reinstall MML, reboot phone.. no luck

For example i can't download apps via eclipse and also cannot mount - if mounted cannot access drive. reboot and works for a few sessions - and same again. i've got rev3.
So I rooted my Moto Droid a few months back. Running 2.1 and all seemed well. I decided to trade it on Craigs List a couple of weeks ago. Before the exchange I did a factory reset. The guy I traded it to seemed honest and certainly didn't know much about hacking on the phone. Anyhow he told me he couldn't get a data connection (wifi did work though). He took it to a Verizon store and naturally they said it had been hacked and that was the problem.I traded him back (Palm Pre sucked anyway). I figured I could just get it back up and running. But I'm definitely only getting wifi connection. Market will NOT log me in no matter what.Any suggestions? Is the phone now dead?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI originally had Vista Ultimate x64 on my computer and when root had come out for the Droid X I plugged it into my computer for the first time. Everything was detected fine and the drivers auto loaded themselves and root was successful.
Flash forward to after vacation, still on Vista, I plugged the Droid into the computer and it wouldn't even detect a connection. It thought it was in an outlet. I tried unmounting the sd card, toggling usb dev, rebooting with the usb in, etc. and nothing worked.
Now I clean installed and put Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and the same thing occurs. I put the Motorola drivers on my pc and the same thing occurs. My Droid doesn't even detect it is connected to a PC, no USB sign pops up on the Droid, nothing. I have tried refreshing Device Manager but nothing shows up.
I am using the original cable supplied with the Droid X.
Looking for a PC connection control App Probably a simple issue but my Brain is on shut down mode
Coming from Wm 6.5 I had a App that I could connect my Omnia i920 to the PC and control my device with my PC mouse. I could view files and move or delete a needed etc by using a enlarged view of my current screen on my PC.
It doesn't really effect my browsing all that much, but it is a little weird to see it connect and disconnect as often as it does, same with my bars they're ask over the place.
View 9 Replies View RelatedGmail app is not updating e-mail and shows a "No Connection" message. Auto sync is on and even doing a manual sync does not load messages. I tried sending a test message and it never comes up. Does anybody have any suggestions as why the "No Connection" message comes up in the Gmail app, or how to fix it?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI successfully set up a work email account as my default email address but have not been able to send/receive email. I keep receiving a "connection error". I'm sure my settings are correct (POP3, port 110; outgoing port 25) and I have the "secure connection" box unchecked. I do have mail.domain name for the SMTP address.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a new Droid (new verizon customer) last Friday. Twice now I have lost 3G downsignal only (which effectively means no data connection). To be clear, I still have the 3G signal icon on my phone, and all my apps are uploading data (according to the icon) however no data is being sent back down. I've tried waiting 10 minutes and tried going in and out of airplane mode (3G icon does come back after leaving airplane mode) however I still don't have downstream connection, only upstream.
The only way I have fixed this is to reboot the phone, which sucks. Has anyone had this issue? I'm not sure i'll be able to get a replacement (even with insurance) unless I can reproduce it in front of Verizon reps, so I'm not sure what I should do about it.
I just got my Droid X two days ago and absolutely love it but it is having major wi-fi issues. It will connect, show me in every possible way that is connected but will not let me use the connection, e.g., browse the web, market store or any other type of internet/intranet connectivity. Is there any fix for this? Is it a software issue or hardware issue? Should I wait for the updates from Motorola or should I (and really don't want to) return it for another Droid X? If returning/exchaning it is my only option is there a way to backup all the apps/settings for my phone since I spent a lot of time customizing it already?
View 12 Replies View RelatedEvery once in a while I notice that there is no indication for 3G or 1x, not that I don't have reception, it just isn't turned on for some reason. It will fix itself if I reboot my phone, or turn it to airplane mode and then back to normal. Does anyone else experience this? Honestly it isn't annoying enough to replace my phone, just weird.

View 15 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody else notice at times their internet connection hanging? It will sometimes partially load a page and then not respond for minutes after. I end up force closing the browser, waiting a few minutes and then trying again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I am having issues with my schools email account. I have it setup via an imap account. Everything works great over wifi. The problem however is once I switch over to 3g.
Once I switch to 3g I am still able to receive emails just fine the problem occurs when I try to send an email. Basically it just sits in the outbox and says connection error. I tried using K-9 to see if that would help but it's still a no go k-9 gives me an error message every time I try resend the email.
So is there some setting or something I am missing that could be causing this problem? Currently I just have my schools email forwarding to my gmail account which is ok but sucks when I go back to my desktop and emails I deleted are still there and unread.
Is there a way to change the default USB connection "tone"? Mine sounds like a loud phone ring that I don't like. I've looked at all of the settings and I can't find anything. The default notification is *not* set to that ring, so it must be set somewhere else. Unless it just can't be changed(?).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'll be traveling in Europe soon and I don't want to run up any inadvertent data charges (I'm planning on using WiFi.) Is there any way to turn off the data connection? I still want to be able to make/receive phone calls.
View 21 Replies View Relatedi just recently purchases a droid and noticed the wifi connection upload and download speed is very slow relative to what it should be. I have fios with a westell wireless g router but im only getting about 1 mbit up and down when i sit right next to it. Also wondering if anything notices the screen tilts a little bit when you press on it, like its loose.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have juicedefender and I enable that at work to shut off my data for 50 minutes out of every hour. I disable the app when I return home so I can always be receiving data.
With that said, I will be texting my girlfriend, shut my screen off and the notification sound does not ring when she sends me a text. The only reason I know she sends me a text is because I will go to Gv on my laptop and see she sent me a msg.
I looked into my battery mode settings and it is setup to shut off data after 15 minutes of inactivity during non peak hours (midnight to 8am) and set to 60 mins or never for peak hours, however my phone was never inactive for that time period.
My question is, what else could be shutting my data on/off if juicedefender is disabled and my battery profile is set up correctly ( i even changed it to performance and i didnt hear the notification, yes the notification vol. is up)
My 3G connection just randomly disappears, some times it will just switch to 1x and other times i wont have either. I have full reception at my house and this never happened with my old phone. Should i exchange my phone? or is this something that will be fixed in an update?
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo me and my brother are out of town where there is no Internet. I am rooted and I have the ability to tether. Just the question is, if we both use this for our primary connection this entire weekend, can verizon do anything about it, notice it, or is it against their terms and conditions? I just don't want my service getting cut off or limited.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI previously had my gchat setup to be online all the time.. for some reason, I get logged off when my phone sleeps, or within a short preiod of time after my phone sleeps. I also do not get email notifications when the screen is off. I have to unlock the screen to get my updates now. Any idea how to change this back?I was also wondering about how to change the frequency of checking email and other updates, etc. to save some battery life
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a good WiFi connection, but my browsing seems like it is going over the cellular connection. How can I force it to go via my WiFi, or can I? It just seems very slow, no different from being in the car.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have exchange set up on my Droid through the email program that comes with the phone.. Its been working fine until this weekend, really. 3 separate times, it's failed to load my inbox or sync new messages, and it pops up with the unable to open connection to server message.Ive quadruple checked all of my settings, removed my account, re-added my account, refreshed it, and still, it wont sync my inbox and it still shows that message. I even tried installing touchdown, and touchdown wouldnt sync my email either? I didnt like how it kept my contacts all separate from my gmail contacts, so I went ahead and uninstalled it. I REALLY just want to use the regular exchange email program..But get this, I am able to sync my sent mail though, and Im able to SEND email messages, just not receive them.
We have our own exchange server for our company, and we have 4 other people in our office running exchange on their phones, (2 Motorola Droids, 1 Droid X, and an HTC 6800...) Nobody else is having issues with their phones syncing their email so I know this isnt an exchange issue, but a phone issue instead.Ive run an update (just the *228) on my phone, reset it like 3 times, killed all the apps, and it still wont sync my inbox (just my sent mail..) And again, it'll send email but wont receive it.I know calling or going into a verizon store will be a waste of time.
i noticed that on my inc, droid 1,and now the x,doesnt happened all the time but when it does i have to reboot or just let it sit for a while. ive tried task killer, no task killer
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhy is my phone constantly giving this vocal notification out? It is constantly searching for a signal? It happens about once an hour, and I'm guessing it's the source of my battery drain issues the last day or 2.
