I'm heading over to the USA for a month and Canada for a bit longer soon. Taking my UK HTC Hero unlocked over.
Was going to buy a AT&T Pay As You Go Sim card for America, and something similiar with a Canadian Cell provider.
Can anyone confirm this will work?
I'm expecting that I won't get 3G access to work, but hopefully get voice/text and a GPRS connection at least?

I�m planning to go on a trip in Europe where I can buy one of those Prepaid SIM card for GSM and use it with my HTC Magic phone. Since my phone is unlocked it should work. However, I understand the phone might operate on different frequencies on Nord America vs. Europe; the big question is, can the phone support the European frequencies? I was wondering if anybody had successfully used their HTC Magic in Europe.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm on the Rogers network in Canada (with a voice and data plan) but I cannot seem to get Skype Beta (version 1.0.0.5) to work. Every time I try to login I get this error: "Skype couldn't connect over your phone connection" I can use the same login/password on Skype on my computer and it works fine. Maybe I'm entering my phone number incorrectly? Has anyone on the Rogers network been able to get Skype to work?

For applications like the GPS tracker and my position they did not work in places where there was no phone coverage. I'm looking at buying an unlocked Hero from mobile phones direct.co.uk, whenever they start selling them. I'm only hesitant about what if any support I'd lose from not buying directly from a carrier. How do Android OTA updates work on unlocked phones? Also, can anyone speculate yet how HTC is going to be handling its updates? Will it push through the carriers? If I buy unlocked and get a contract through Voda phone (who is not officially carrying the phone) will I be the last one on the block to get my updates? Or will I need to root my phone and install them all myself?

Please verify your username and password."I have tried using the settings that google has on the website and the school doesn't have anything about setting up an email on a phone ( any phone).I tried changing the server to imap.grcc.edu and I had to confirm the certificate but then it gave the error again. I also tried taking the @email.grcc.edu from the username and that didn't work either. I am really frustrated right now. And no, I do not want to forward it to my other email. I like to keep my school and personal emails separate. Sorry if I sound a bit mean but I know that's what some of you will ask me.

Ok, my phone worked perfectly before I installed 2.1. I did a hard reset before I installed 2.1. It ran fine for about 20 minutes while I played with all the new features (I really like 2.1 when its working) but literally about every 20 minutes when I check my phone, the damn thing is OFF. Its really pissing me off. So I turn it back on, and within 20 minutes its off again. Im about to smash this damn thing. I've reinstalled 2.1 twice, hard reset, soft reset, and every combination of the 3. WTF is the problem!?

I'd like to leave the phone on for voice calls and wifi (I've researched and understand the per-min rates), but I want to guarantee that not 1 byte of data will transfer and incur me some obscene surcharge.
Here's my plan:
- Turn off "data roaming"
- Uncheck "background data"
- Uncheck "auto-sync"
- Using QuickSettings, toggle "APN control" (seems to do the same thing as the APNDroid and Toggle Data apps)

I'd like ask all of you how often is this problem in Hero series? I bought one a month ago and it has some stucked pixels, but I heard that the chance of getting even worse phone is bigger, so I decided to keep this one, because these dots are practically invisible during the common work with the phone. I can see one or two if I set the brightness level to full, but thats my second question- how many of you use brightness on full or you do prefere to keep it on automatic? I discovered that on manual setting the phone loses light sensor function, am I right?
