I'm heading up to Canada for the weekend and I'm wondering if my droid will work and if there are things i should avoid? I know my buddy went up once on his iphone and ended up with this HUGE bill.

I'm on the Rogers network in Canada (with a voice and data plan) but I cannot seem to get Skype Beta (version 1.0.0.5) to work. Every time I try to login I get this error: "Skype couldn't connect over your phone connection" I can use the same login/password on Skype on my computer and it works fine. Maybe I'm entering my phone number incorrectly? Has anyone on the Rogers network been able to get Skype to work?

I have the HTC Magic phone from Rogers (Canada) and I just recently unlock the phone. I�m planning to go on a trip in Europe where I can buy one of those Prepaid SIM card for GSM and use it with my HTC Magic phone. Since my phone is unlocked it should work. However, I understand the phone might operate on different frequencies on Nord America vs. Europe; the big question is, can the phone support the European frequencies? I was wondering if anybody had successfully used their HTC Magic in Europe.

I'm heading up North with my new X and want to reduce the VZW data roaming charges in Canada as much as possible, but without losing or reducing my Exchange email service.
I will:
cut back on unnecessary browsing.
stop downloading videos!
turn off background data.
turn off HTML for emails.
use Wi-Fi when possible.
turn off GPS.
Is this the right approach? Any suggestions on other uses or apps to avoid?
I just switched from bb to milestone. Is there a good app to find movie listings for android for canada? Poynt for bb was great but there isn't a android version that I can find.

View 3 Replies View RelatedCanada is incredibly close, and I'm going to be visiting it again in a week but the first time since having a smartphone. I'd like to leave the phone on for voice calls and wifi (I've researched and understand the per-min rates), but I want to guarantee that not 1 byte of data will transfer and incur me some obscene surcharge.
Here's my plan:
- Turn off "data roaming"
- Uncheck "background data"
- Uncheck "auto-sync"
- Using QuickSettings, toggle "APN control" (seems to do the same thing as the APNDroid and Toggle Data apps)
Have I covered all my bases?
When I try to enable it in the settings is says Wi-Fi and "Error" below it. Could it be a bug in the ROM? In phone information the Wi-fi MAC address in unavailable.
View 10 Replies View RelatedTasker does not seem to function unless I use the motorola control panel and turn on bluetooth, wifi, and gps. If I shut these off via the control panel then tasker does not turn them on at the appointed times and events.Which begs the question, is tasker REALLY turning them off? or are the icons just going away in the notification bar (because they still show as on in the control panel widget)Has anyone else noticed this issue?

They say it doesn't.Can anyone confirm whether or not the GPS (not aGPS, just good old fashioned, slow to download datum and get a fix GPS) works when in airplane mode?I'm traveling overseas to Japan, and only want to use wifi and GPS, so I thought I'd just leave the phone in airplane mode the whole time, but I'm really going to need GPS working (I'm using Maverick Pro for offline maps). Of the apps I've downloaded, only a few of them have worked. Of those few that work, some don't work right. Has anyone had problems with these apps crashing on them, or just not working correctly?
- Nice Battery (see description at bottom of: My Ultimate CLIQ settings (so far))
- WeatherBug (kept showing the wrong location, crashed when trying to change location)
- Snake - doesn't work just says its "paused"
- RingDroid - crashes when I select the "Facebook Pop" button
- Layar - screen is rotated 90 degrees at all times
There have been others, but usually I just uninstall them right after discovering it doesn't work right.
I can't connect Motorola Droid and Nexus One using BluetoothChat It's always return "Unnable to connect". So the socket is always close.

I am programming an android application and my "testing" device is a Motorola Milestone (Droid). I have done a grid that scroll like the iPhone home menu ( with "points").
I got two problems:
The first one : the drag only works on the Android Device Emulator and don't on the Droid! (Maybe the multi-touch screen is a problem?) The drag is too responsible, and flip views sometimes one by one (this is ok) and sometimes 2 by 2 or 3 by 3! That is clearly problematic!

I know we cant post links or anything to SBF files or anything like that..thats not what this thread is about..i like many others have gotten a hold of the sbf..i was playing around with my phone almost looking for a way to mess it up so i could use it..i managed that pretty quickly...i am pretty good with doing everything to my phone..rooting..updated to 2.2 and all of that..and i had a pretty good idea what the sbf file actually did but now i have some questions...so hopefully this thread can be a thread for general questions about the sbf not relating to where to get it or how to use it...
I was lead to believe from just about every forum that using rsd and the sbf would totally flash ur phone back to 2.1 stock like the first day you turned it on...before flashing the sbf to my phone i looked at probably every single site and forum out there that had directions..(i like to find out if there are different ways of doing stuff and want to see people experiences)...every site was the same just load rsd and the patch and then flash....well once i flashed my phone it rebooted by its self and when it turned on all i had to do was activate...everything else was still on my phone...apps...settings..wallpaper etc...i know you can go into recovery and do a data wipe and clear cache but it makes me feel like the phone is not back to 100% stock as i thought the sbf did everything..so my question is..
What exactly does the sbf do....
1. Is it supposed to 100% erase everything and put it back to stock 2.1
2. Are you supposed to have to manually wipe date/clear cache and then flash the sbf and if so then what is the sbf doing..
I'm trying to use ADB on my computer for my phone but it just wont recognize the Droid. I have the phone set to Debugging mode and reinstalled the driver more times than I can count. But it wont work, any help?

View 49 Replies View RelatedI've seen that others have SNESoid on their DX's but when I installed SNESoid light on my DX and went to freeroms.com I get a black screen.Here's is what I did.
1.Installed SNESoid lite and ASTRO
2. Went to freeroms.com
3. Direct DLed ROM .zips of FF3, Super mario bros. to my phones SD.
4. Opened with ASTRO went to download folder and extracted in same folder.
5. Opened SNESoid lite and it went to download folder. It only showed the zip folders and not the actual roms.
6. so I clicked on the .zip folder but I either get a black screen or really screwy lines.
Is there a theme that would work for UD 8 that would give me the sliding application drawer that 2.1 had?

I had just never tried/played it. So I figured I would start a new post in case anyone else has this issue in the future. Does that amount get added on to the original ROM, or does it replace the information in the original ROM?The reason I ask is because I have always been curious as to if a theme in theory would slow down a ROM? I mean I know that even if it did it would be so miniscule that nobody would surely notice, but I'm curious just the same.
