For applications like the GPS tracker and my position they did not work in places where there was no phone coverage. Could some one please let me know whether this is the case or do I need to change my settings for the GPS to work independently of Phone coverage.

I'm expecting that I won't get 3G access to work, but hopefully get voice/text and a GPRS connection at least?

Oct 19, 2010managed to unlock my orange HTC Hero by doing a new firmware update and unlock code, iv now put in an vodafone sim card and can send and receive txts and calls but can't use the Internet.

I'm looking at buying an unlocked Hero from mobile phones direct.co.uk, whenever they start selling them. I'm only hesitant about what if any support I'd lose from not buying directly from a carrier. How do Android OTA updates work on unlocked phones? Also, can anyone speculate yet how HTC is going to be handling its updates? Will it push through the carriers? If I buy unlocked and get a contract through Voda phone (who is not officially carrying the phone) will I be the last one on the block to get my updates? Or will I need to root my phone and install them all myself?

May 2, 2010Yes, I have looked around the forum for the answer to this question but no one has the same issue as me (as far as I know)Okay, when I try to set up my school email on my Hero, I get an authentication failure and it says something like " Authentication failed. Please verify your username and password."I have tried using the settings that google has on the website and the school doesn't have anything about setting up an email on a phone ( any phone).I tried changing the server to imap.grcc.edu and I had to confirm the certificate but then it gave the error again. I also tried taking the @email.grcc.edu from the username and that didn't work either. I am really frustrated right now. And no, I do not want to forward it to my other email. I like to keep my school and personal emails separate. Sorry if I sound a bit mean but I know that's what some of you will ask me.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Phone Won't Stay On After 2.1 Update / Get It To Work?
Jun 4, 2010Ok, my phone worked perfectly before I installed 2.1. I did a hard reset before I installed 2.1. It ran fine for about 20 minutes while I played with all the new features (I really like 2.1 when its working) but literally about every 20 minutes when I check my phone, the damn thing is OFF. Its really pissing me off. So I turn it back on, and within 20 minutes its off again. Im about to smash this damn thing. I've reinstalled 2.1 twice, hard reset, soft reset, and every combination of the 3. WTF is the problem!?

But if someone calls me the phone comes out of its "locked up / sleep state". I was curious as to why it does this. Im going to basic training in about a month for the army and was told to bring my phone as to the DS can choose to let me use it or not. Id hate to not be able to use my cell if i bring it.
I am using CYanogenmod 7 Rom.
