Does anybody know if I can perform the initial setup without a having a Sim card?
I will only have the sim card available in a couple of days, and I was wondering if I can setup my Hero via wireless without a sim card installed.

Since rooting and using custom roms, I've been using the apps2sd facility the this offers, however If I want to install certain apps to the phone memory rather than my SD card, is it possible to do this at all? I've not yet been given the option of doing this at all.

I read somewhere about booting into recovery and partitioning my sd card from ext2 to ext3 or something like that, but when I go into recovery I don't see that option.

My computer does not have a wireless card and I am wondering how do you turn your droid to do this?
I don't want to use my data plan to connect to the internet, I want my droid to act as a wireless card over wifi to receive the fios from the wireless router.
Anyone know how this can be done?

Anyway, can I delete the 2.1 file off my SD card once it's installed on my phone? If so, what's the easiest way to do that.
I already picked up some good tips but am having a lot of problems with my droid. I will start with the tethering issue. I have mine done with smoked glass and it has the wireless tether installed. It will open and my computer will sync up with it either secured or unsecured and then you will see a several seconds flash of bytes in and out and then the kbps will drop down to 0 and I will be unable to connect to the internet. I have read that newer versions may solve the problem and that if I dont have my ordinal sd card in, it might be the problem since the info may be needed? I did try copying those folders onto this card but still no good. The android one to be exact. If the only option is to remove this tether and install a new apk one, how do I that? I cant seem to find it?

I'm able to connect in other hotspots around town but for some reason not in my own home.
I have my router set up with WPA-Personal security and after numerous times attempting to connect by entering that god awful encryption key (learned how to cut & paste on the Hero) no luck.
Reading other threads on this subject I took someone's advise and reset the router to use WEP security with the same results.
I have a wireless laptop and printer in the household that use my wireless system just fine. Why won't my Hero play nice?
So, from what I am aware of, HTC Hero is able to use multiple email account (gmail and not). will I be able to set up a MobileMe account on it?

When i connect via 3G its much quicker to initially connect..
I had a stock android 2.3.6 and here are the steps I tried:
- Unlocked my N1 (through fastboot)
- flashed the RA recovery image (through fastboot)
- Wiped the device.
- Copied the Evervolv-Perdo-2.2.0a5-passion-aroma.zip to the SD card
- Booted in recovery mode and installed Evervolv.
After reboot, the blue X animation just sits there rolling and rolling. It's been 25 minutes since I rebooted and the main screen doesn't show up.
Tried running wireless tether 1.6 that comes with Fresh 2.3.3. No luck.Uninstalled Wireless Tether and reinstalled it from the developer's site. My laptop connects to the phone's WiFi network, but cannot access the internet. I've tried turning the phone's mobile network off/on while tether was running and also prior to turning on tether.

My handset crashed for some reason and would not boot, so I figured while I had my hard cover pried off to pull the battery, I would give Z4Root a shot. Ironically, it worked without me having to pull my battery. Anyway, as I said, Z4Root worked great, but I after I installed ROM Manager, it keeps giving me an error about not being able to flash the recovery image. Am I doing something wrong here?
View 36 Replies View RelatedThis morning I thought I would change ROMs from Fresh 2.4 to the stock Sprint odex rooted ROM. Install went fine. But then I had to screw things up by using ROM Manager app to partition the SD cards in hopes of using the Apps2SD app. Upon reboot the phone goes as far as the Sprint Now area and then goes back to the white "HTC Quietly Brilliant" and flashes between a dark screen and the white screen. I have tried rebooting numerous times and this is where it is stuck.

I have Astro file manager and when I use it to look at all the folders on the SD card, I don't see any folder that remotely looks like it would be the one. I have opened up all folders that I don't know what's in them and I don't see the apps. Unless I'm missing something. First, I installed Angry Birds (this was not the dumb thing, by the way, unless you count how much of my life it has consumed) and then moved the app to the SD card.The dumb thing was that a while later I was charging my phone via my computer (and I was in Disk Drive mode) and I went to play the game. Well, the icon was wrong and the game wouldn't play, so I panicked thinking that I might have lost all my progress. I went out to the market and re-downloaded the game. Whew! All my progress was still there.Later the whole you-just-couldn't-access-your-SD-card-at-the-moment-you-idiot thing sank in and I realized I had the app on both the card and in phone storage. So I went into Applications and tried to move it to the SD card, but I got an error (presumably because it's already there). So now it's taking up room in phone storage and I don't want it to. I'm afraid if I uninstall the app completely that I really will lose my progress. Any suggestions?

Do I have to set up folders on the card such as Music, Photos, Videos etc., or do I just pile all my files on the card and the phone then sorts out what's what?
