Nov 22, 2009When phone goes to sleep whilst connected to Mobile Network or Wifi does it disconnect? If so, is there a way to stay connected whilst phone sleeps?

Aug 19, 2010It's become a standard recommendation on battery-related threads: Set WiFi to stay on when the phone goes into sleep mode.
My understanding is that 3G is only active when data is being transferred. But when WiFi is on and connected, it is ALWAYS on and connected.
Let's say I sleep for 8 hours at night, and I have apps that update every 30 minutes. Do I want WiFi to be connected for the entire 8 hours, or just let the phone use 3G for a total of 16 times (8 hours / 30 minutes)?

Nov 15, 2009does any one know why i get so many network errors then all of a sudden it works after 3 or 4 attempts, when connecting to market or internet on wifi, I am completly close to the router and have full connection.

Jun 14, 2010i have the newest firmware and everything is fine and i did read the "how to's" before posting this. i'm on sprint and i've got unlimited everything. i tried the "internet sharing" thing when i plugged it in to my computer (all htc sync software and drivers installed) and i kept getting a data call failure so i thought sprint disabled that feature. i was messing with the wifi on my phone and i connected to my router, then when i plugged it in i tried the "internet sharing" option again this time it worked. but, as in the "how to" it doesn't have the little 3g symbol beside the clock. all it has it the wifi symbol. so, is my pc connected to the internet via my phones internet or my home internet?

Jul 1, 2010At the office, we have a high-speed reliable WiFi network.I don't have problems connecting to it with my macbook and iPod Touch.On my Android phone, I use the toggle switch to turn on/off WiFi to save battery power.My frustration is as follows:* When I use the WiFi setting to check the box to turn on WiFi, it shows that it's available with a strong connection.* It shows "Obtaining address" for a long time period and often fails to actually connect.Status - Obtaining IP address from XXXXX Pulbic WiFi Access and it just sits there with the word "Obtaining..." forever it seems. Aug 8, 2009I own a HTC Hero and loving the phone but unfortunately I am having problems connecting to my WiFi network. When I turn on the WiFi on my hero it will not show the SSID name of my network. The odd thing is that when I use WiFi scanner (nice program) it shows my WiFi network SSID, but I cannot connect to my WiFi using that program.

I figured that since it can read my WiFi easier, it might use less power, then again it is a function on the phone that needs to be launched and therefore might be draining more.

Aug 29, 2009Just a quick question, i have set up my contacts to link to facebook accounts, linking their profile pictures to, however when any of the contacts call and their photo is displayed whilst ringing, it is quite fuzzy is this the same for everyone? i also tried taking a photo off the hero camera and using that instead, picture looked great in the viewer, but when i attach it to a person and they ring, its dead fuzzy again.

Aug 28, 2010I noticed a weird battery drain on my EVO over the last week or so. I've got the System Panel app, and it appears there's an internal process called "suspend" that is running the CPU at 50%-60% while the phone's supposed to be asleep.
I have the un-updated facebook app, and it doesn't have any login information anyway. The problem started occurring around the time I installed Pandora; have there been any reports of problems with that app? Alternatively, does anybody know what might be causing that process to chew CPU cycles?

He received it today.He had an Evo before the epic and never had this issue. the issue he's having is, obviously he doesn't pick up sprint service out in iraq, but with his evo he was able to pick up wifi and connect to google talk, qik, etc.his epic is allowing him to connect to a wifi signal, but it won't allow him to connect to google talk, qik, etc. it keeps saying "can't connect to server". like i said, he never had this issue with the evo.

May 28, 2010I've had my desire for around a month now & had no real problems with it, flashed it with a stock ROM initially & then rooted it a couple of days after the root was released. When I woke up this morning I was connected to my WiFi network but when I tried to load a webpage, nothing happens, it comes up with the stock 'Web page not available' page. I tried a couple of web pages but got the same response, I thought it might be my WiFi network but when I got to work, exactly the same thing happens. I can connect via GPRS when I disable the WiFi with no problem. I've been using Y5 Battery Saver for the past two weeks, not sure if that's relevant. Is this a standard error / known bug, how would I go about fixing this, not having WiFi is obviously a bit of pain!
OK, installed a Terminal emulator over 3G & ran a couple of commands, including dmesg. From the output of dmesg it looks like the WiFi connects but then something goes wrong, here's a brief transcript:

Jun 10, 2010This is my first Android phone so I might just not know what I am doing. At work we have an open wi-fi network for patients and visitors to connect to. When they connect for the first time they are automatically re-directed to a sign on page where they must provide their e-mail address. After that they are free to use wireless internet services. My EVO will not re-direct to the page. When I tried it on a friends iPhone it worked just fine. My phone has not been rooted and i have tried both the default browser and two that I downloaded from the market. The phone is connecting to the WiFi and getting a strong signal.
