Does anyone know if I activate the Wifi connection it trumps the carrier network connection? In other words, if the Wifi connection is active (assuming i have a signal) and my carrier signal is also active, and I want to stream some audio--which pipe does the phone use to bring in the audio?

I did a search and couldn't really find any threads with people having similar issues. I saw that people were having trouble keeping their X connected to a network, but that's not my issue.
I have a Droid Incredible and added a line to get the X figuring I'd just sell off the Inc when my X arrived. Since I got my X, I've noticed that when I am connected to a wifi network, it almost seems to crawl when I hop around from page to page.
I ran some speed tests on my internet connection, it seemed that it was my phone. So then I ran speed tests with the app in the marketplace, first on the DInc and then on X. The upload speeds were pretty close to identical, but the download speeds were consistently 300 kbps higher on the Droid Incredible.
So after running those tests, I decided to just do some side by side browsing on the X and Inc to see how big the difference was between the two. I opened up a few pages that I don't ever really visit so they weren't in my browsing history and the Incredible would again open pages 10-15 seconds quicker.
Has anyone else had these same issues? I know their was a software release shortly after the initial launch, is their another one in the pipeline?
I love the phone, it's a multimedia beast. But I don't think I want to keep one that has a busted wifi connection.
Im wondering if this is an issue with my phone or an issue with the network in my area. Basically, i try to turn on my mobile network and it freezes at "turning on" i hit the back arrow, head back in and it says that the connection failed or "standby for connecting to the mobile network.The only thing different i have done today is install spare parts, and read a few issues people had with sense turning off, and wondered if maybe something within it is bugging my phone, just a thought though.

So my droid eris won't connect to my wifi network. I have a dual band netgear router. It works with everything else except the eris. my xbox 360, nintendo wii, macbook pro, and multiple windows computers all work fine. My itouch connects to it nd so do all my other friend's android phones. I know my wifi on my phone works because I can use it on any other network. It seems to me that the wifi driver (do phones have drivers) needs to be updated. Is this possible?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a verizon fios wireless router, model MI424WR, and i am having trouble maintaining a wireless connection with my eris. i have no problem with the initial connection, but after a few minutes the connection no longer works. my eris still shows that it is connected to my wireless network, but if i attempt to open a webpage, use twitter, etc it says that there is no connection. i changed my eris settings to never let the wireless sleep, but it has not seemed to work. any ideas on how to fix this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wi fi isn't working it has found our connection ever since I turned it on now it doesn't. I am sitting right next to the computer but it cannot find it. I uninstalled 360 camera because that is the last app I installed. It was working fine untill I did the update. Than it did a force close a couple of times. That was yesterday than when I turned my phone on this morning it can not find the connection and the letter icon that shows you have mail is not up in the left hand corner of the phone. I really don't want to do a factory reset if I can help it.

Problem is that the WiFi network it creates is an AdHoc one and as I found Android can't connect to AdHoc networks by default. Standard on WinMp and iOS so what possessed them to do that?
After some digging around I found a guide to enable AdHoc on rooted Androphones How to connect an android phone to your ad-hoc wi-fi network | Wissam Idrissi so I spent a few hours rooting and installing the proper apps. No go though, my AdHoc network does appear in the list with MySSD : "Not in range, remembered" but it never connects. Has anyone managed to connect to an AdHoc network on a Milestone with 2.1?

My friend was using my phone and he stopped some running services, since then my phone's wi-fi and GPRS not working, I have already tried restoring it to factory reset , but it doesn't work even after restoring phone to factory settings. Phone just keeps on searching wi fi network and in GPRS mode it shows network connection error.

Successfully connected (accepted WEP) but get very weak signal and then lose connection. I've turned off "Mobile Network" but still have this problem. I am one room away from router and receive full signal on iMac and printer but only a dot under the Wifi symbol on the Eris. Exchanged a Motorola Droid (which received and held full signal -- as did my prior iPhone)) for Eris. VZW tech support clueless and immediately sent me to HTC support. While they tried (had some not very good explanations -- battery not pushing enough power) still nothing working. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated -- this is the only downside right now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted 2.1, it's been working perfectly since I rooted and updated and all.I love how fast and responsive everything is now.BUT one of the main reasons I rooted was so that I could take advantage of the wifi tethering.It works sometimes.sometimes great.BUT if I try to go to facebook.it'll work well sometimes, then others it won't even load the page.then eventually just kills my connection. gmail seems to have the same reaction.works sometimes, other times, nothing. i dont seem to have much of a problem surfing other sites.HOWEVER if i try to download anything over like 4MB big...my connection just gets killed all together, and nothing works. a friend of mine sent me his bands new demos...the zip file is like 35MB.it only gets a little ways before just dropping down to 0.0kbs and then it just sits there, not loading crap. I can re start the connection, and it will start downloading again, but after about 30 or 40 seconds.the connection gets killed again. Same goes for a torrent...if I try to download a torrent, it'll work and get pretty fast, up to 190kbs.but after just under a minute, connection killed. why is this? does verizon kill data connections that come in to fast or something? i have a friend who tethers with at&t with his iphone, he got the demos downloaded in like 12 min on his iphone tethering app. do i need to do some tweaking to my phone so I can download? im not trying to go crazy, but I'd like to atleast be able to get large attachments and such.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Eris with Android v. 2.1 and a Belkin 54g router. The phone lists my home network in its list of of wifi networks. When I press the entry, an info box says that signal strength is good and security is open. (for the purpose of trying to have my phone connect). When I press "connect," it says "Obtaining IP address." Then after a couple of minutes, it says "Unsuccessful."
My phone has connected to other WiFi networks with no problem; indeed, it has done so automatically, with no effort on my part. My router assigns IP addresses via DHCP. It also broadcasts its SSID, which the phone recognizes.
Is there a way to disable the start up sound on the Eris? Also, it recognizes my WiFi network. I type in the password, it obtains the address, and then it says unsuccessful.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since flashing the 2.1 leaks (V1 and then V2), I have not been able to connect to my university's WPA2-enterprise wireless network. After I enter my login info (the network uses PEAP with MSCHAPv2, so it doesn't need any certificates), the phone connects as expected and gets a valid IP address, verifiable with netcfg. Before any traffic is allowed to pass to the outside world, however, the device connecting has to go to an authentication page in a browser. When I attempt to go to that page, I get an error titled "Data Connectivity Problem" that states "A secure connection could not be established" which only presents an option to acknowledge the error.
Since I can't load that authentication page, the network is entirely unusable. I did not encounter this problem with 1.5, but since I'm running the V2 leak, reverting is not an option.Has anyone else seen this type of behavior? I can't identify if the problem is in the actual link not being established properly (seems unlikely, as the phone is given an IP address, but perhaps the PEAP layer is having some sort of issue?) or if it has to do with the SSL certificates used for the network authentication page (they're signed, but I'm fairly certain that the name if the site they're signed for is not the name that they've given the new auth server).
for whatever reason today we lost our internet connection at work. Now I work for an airline doing charters and today we added a second flight to each shift. So I tethered my phone for the 3g and just plugged it in at the end of the day to charge it. Needless to say it handeled 300 passengers/customers easy. Changes, bag fees, checking in and selling for a solid 8hrs today! I don't think I'll ever get another cell phone ever. Maybe a bigger SD, but phone, probably not.

I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.
If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.
There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int,int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?
Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?
My eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...

If my screen locks while I have a wifi connection, then the connection is lost when I unlock the phone.First, is this perhaps deliberate, to save power? Also, either way, when I unlock the screen and go into wifi settings, I see that the phone is trying to make a wifi connection, but it never succeeds, even though it's my home network and I'm in the same room as the router. It will connect, show me in every possible way that is connected but will not let me use the connection, e.g., browse the web, market store or any other type of internet/intranet connectivity. Is there any fix for this? Is it a software issue or hardware issue? Should I wait for the updates from Motorola or should I (and really don't want to) return it for another Droid X? If returning/exchaning it is my only option is there a way to backup all the apps/settings for my phone since I spent a lot of time customizing it already?
