Sprint HTC Hero :: Rooted / Now Phone Won't Charge?

Oct 2, 2010

Before I even rooted my phone, my charger was having issues charging. At the end of the part that goes into the phone, the black cord fell back and the wires are exposed. It's been like this since late March/April. I'd have to mess with angling the phone in order for it to charge, but once it did, it was solid. I rooted my phone thursday night and put fresh on it. Then yesterday I decided that it wasn't fast enough and I jumped from CM6 to PureHero. All the while it charged, but I still had to mess with it. Now that I've left it on PureHero (although overall, I still haven't found a satisfactory ROM) my phone won't charge at all. Like, when I finally CAN get the light to glow orange, it'll be stuck at the same percentage. I woke up at like 3 in the morning and discovered this so I kept the battery out for the remainder of the night, woke up and put it back in but it's still stuck at the same percentage. Is it the ROM I'm using? Did I fry my battery somehow? Or is it solely the charger? I want to know before I go and buy a new batter/charger.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Get Fast Phone Charge Via Computer?

Feb 15, 2010

Was wondering if theres any way to get the fast charge that you get from the wall charger to work with a usb from computer charge. I know its "slower charge" because the computer also allows data transfer and mounting of the sd card, but maybe theres a possible way to shut that off? Also, would a double USB port cord that are used for external hard drives improve charge time at all? Two normal sized USB coming from computer to the miniUSB port on hero.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Phone Takes Long Time To Charge?

Jun 10, 2010

I posted a thread about my battery life earlier this week, and I thank all the for the help! Here is another issue I am having that may be related. My phone takes forever to charge. Example: used my phone heavily this morning from 5:30 am till around 9am. Came home, battery was down to 15% or so. Plugged it into the AC charger around 10am, went outside and mowed the yard, etc. Finally checked the phone around 4pm, and it was still charging. Battery was showing 90% or so. Shouldn't it fully charge in around 2 hours or less? I did some research and found some people having charging issues after they upgraded to 2.1, which I did right after I got the phone. I did check with my local RS where I got the phone, and the guy I spoke with has a Hero, and his does not do this. He suggested I go to a Sprint store and have them look at it.

HTC EVO 4G :: Phone Won't Turn On After Initial Boot / How To Fix?

Sep 2, 2010

First the camera button is unresponsive, and now after owning this phone for about a month, I'm at my wits end! Has anyone experienced this? Last night after leaving the movie theater I pulled my EVO out of my pocket and pressed the power button - the bottom row button lights come on, but the screen does not (battery is nearly full by the way). Pressing the power button makes the bottom buttons turn on and off, but the screen is off. I perform a battery pull, everything seems fine, I can get into the phone after it boots, but once I press the power button to turn the screen off, the screen never turns on again - but the bottom buttons light up like last time. Repeat, repeat, repeat. I have to perform a battery pull every time I turn the screen off. I've now changed the display timeout to 'never' - and if I keep the screen on permanently from the initial bootup, the phone works fine. Absolutely insane. If Sprint can't exchange the phone (due to lack of stock) I'm considering going back to a blackberry. This is my third EVO, and although I love it when it works, I need something a little more reliable.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Dialing Speed Tone Length

Jan 25, 2010

I normally set up call forwarding from my home phone number to my cell phone by speed-dialing a special sting of numbers from my cell phone. Once the computer on the other side answers, the cell phone sends all the correct codes, including the number where I wish my forwarded calls to go.With my newly bought HTC Hero (Sprint), this doesn't seem to work, because the automatically dialed tones are much too fast and too short. I've tried putting a "P" (for pause) between each digit, but it doesn't help.Other cell phones provide way to select between short and long tones, but apparently the Hero does not.Is there a way to slow down the dialing string so that it can be read by the phone company's computer? Obviously, I could manually key in each digit, but that's really not a good solution.

HTC Hero :: Car Charger Not Providing Enough Charge

Aug 3, 2010

I recently received my Hero's upgrade to 2.1 and have been very happy with the Google Navigation software! However, it's an obviously big drain on the battery, what with requiring GPS and all, so I bought a generic USB car charger from eBay for 99p. It does indeed charge the phone, but not fast enough! I even get an error on the screen telling me that the charge is not enough to stop my battery level falling.

So my question is, are all usb chargers the same? I notice it's also a very slow charge from the PC too and takes a few hours to charge the phone, whereas it only takes 45 mins or so from a wall socket. Can anyone confirm that if I spent ?20 on a 'decent' car charger it will charge fast enough to actually charge the phone while using Google Navigation?..............

HTC Hero :: Mounting To Car USB Charge & Play ?

Jul 9, 2010

I am having a real pain in the butt trying to mount my Hero via my incar USB port, it reads the same SD card when it's inserted into the car with an adapter onit's own, so I know it's not the card, it seems to be a problem with the delay in the Hero switching the SD card to "Disk drive", I find that if I pull the USB lead out of the car then quickly reinsert it, the SD card then gets seen and I can play music.

This is the same on both mt wifes Nissan and my Honda, so it's not the car readers, I downloaded "Automount" as others reported that that shows up instantly as a simple external drive, but that still did not work, and as the 2.1 now has a choice of default mounting options on inserting a USB cable, I thought thet would have done the same anyway.

Has anybody found a workaround that lets android phones play music in thier cars ?

Motorola Droid X :: Safe To Charge Using Mini Usb Charge Source?

Jul 19, 2010

This has been an issue that's been bugging me the last few days now. The stock wall charger that came with my Droid X is the 5PN5504A, which has an output rating of 5.1V, 850mA. My understanding is that the mini-USB interface is an industry standard for power delivery to portable devices, which I take to mean that any charge source should work (wall charger, desktop PC, laptop) as long it has uses an USB interface. So any USB-->miniUSB cable can be used to charge any mini-usb device, regardless of power source, right?

I already have several other mini-usb devices, such as bluetooth headsets, which all came with their own wall chargers. However, I checked these chargers, and they all have different outputs: 5V @ 200mA, 5V @ 150mA, 5V @ 550mA. Because the default Droid X cable was so short, I was tempted to use these other chargers. I plugged in the 5V@150mA charger to my Droid X, and found that the phone does not show it's charging (the lighting bolt isn't there, there's no animation on the battery indicator). So then I switched to the 5V@550mA charger, and it DOES charge....................

HTC Hero :: Conserving The Battery Charge Daily?

Mar 12, 2010

I have significantly improved my battery life over the past few days by changing two simple settings....email and wifi.

Email first -
I have accounts set up on the Hero with Yahoo, GMail and Hotmail. When I looked, the Yahoo was checking every 15 minutes. GMail every hour and Hotmail once per day. As I am often in front of a PC with email open, this seemed like overkill.

So, I altered all three accounts to check only once each day automatically.

I also switch my wifi connection on as soon as I get home and leave it connected until I go to bed. I've now started turning this off when I'm not actively using it.

Here's my non-scientific results:
Getting up at 6:30am each day and using the Hero as normal before altering these settings would get the battery charge down to 25% at best by 11pm when I put it back on charge. It would often be less than 25%.

After changing the settings as above, my battery usually stays over 85% until probably early evening. My usage goes up when I get home from work quite a bit though and yet by 11pm, I still haven't seen the charge less than 65% yet.
