Sprint HTC Hero :: Phone Gets Hot And Will Not Charge
Aug 20, 2010I have a rooted hero running sprint 2.1. if i run tether too long it gets hot and will not charge(the lights flash green and orange). I have it in a otterbox case. Any ideas on how to keep it cool?

Feb 25, 2010I've been trying to root my phone for 2 days now but I can't even get my Hero to sync to my computer. I've searched around and tried a lot of the tips and tricks that I've seen. I manually downloaded drivers, and that didn't work either.I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, which from what I've heard has been a source of problems for a lot of people. I decided to come to you guys before I went to HTC about this, so if you have any advice please share. I can't even get Pre-Kitchen until I fix this problem.I've tried:
1) Restarting my phone while connected
2) Checking off USB Debugging, plugging it in, then checking it on.
3) Restarting my computer while phone is connected.
4) Downloading 64-bit drivers.
5) Un-installing HTC Sync, Re-installing it.

Aug 3, 2010I just purchased a silicon skin case cover for my htc hero and I charged my phone and it seems like it's taking longer to charge I don't know maybe I'm seeing things.

Oct 2, 2010Before I even rooted my phone, my charger was having issues charging. At the end of the part that goes into the phone, the black cord fell back and the wires are exposed. It's been like this since late March/April. I'd have to mess with angling the phone in order for it to charge, but once it did, it was solid. I rooted my phone thursday night and put fresh on it. Then yesterday I decided that it wasn't fast enough and I jumped from CM6 to PureHero. All the while it charged, but I still had to mess with it. Now that I've left it on PureHero (although overall, I still haven't found a satisfactory ROM) my phone won't charge at all. Like, when I finally CAN get the light to glow orange, it'll be stuck at the same percentage. I woke up at like 3 in the morning and discovered this so I kept the battery out for the remainder of the night, woke up and put it back in but it's still stuck at the same percentage. Is it the ROM I'm using? Did I fry my battery somehow? Or is it solely the charger? I want to know before I go and buy a new batter/charger.

Feb 15, 2010Was wondering if theres any way to get the fast charge that you get from the wall charger to work with a usb from computer charge. I know its "slower charge" because the computer also allows data transfer and mounting of the sd card, but maybe theres a possible way to shut that off? Also, would a double USB port cord that are used for external hard drives improve charge time at all? Two normal sized USB coming from computer to the miniUSB port on hero.

Jun 10, 2010I posted a thread about my battery life earlier this week, and I thank all the for the help! Here is another issue I am having that may be related. My phone takes forever to charge. Example: used my phone heavily this morning from 5:30 am till around 9am. Came home, battery was down to 15% or so. Plugged it into the AC charger around 10am, went outside and mowed the yard, etc. Finally checked the phone around 4pm, and it was still charging. Battery was showing 90% or so. Shouldn't it fully charge in around 2 hours or less? I did some research and found some people having charging issues after they upgraded to 2.1, which I did right after I got the phone. I did check with my local RS where I got the phone, and the guy I spoke with has a Hero, and his does not do this. He suggested I go to a Sprint store and have them look at it.

Aug 12, 2010Lately, I have had a lot of issues with my bluetooth headphones (won't start on the countless other issues). Out of no where it will stop working; so I go into my bluetooth settings and the headset says it is still connected.... (not the issue)
The issue is when I try disconnecting then re-connecting, the message "Headset is disconnected" appears and will not go away under any circumstance. It stays there when going back to the home page, putting the phone to sleep and back on, everywhere, even when reconnected!
The only way to get the message to go away is powering off the phone. I have repeated this several times with the same results 100% of the time.
General :: Any Way To Have USB Connected Without Charge?
Apr 27, 2013I have a Bluetooth dock that i use to stream music it works great and has a USB port on it to charge my phone. Though whenever i use the usb port it causes distortion in the music streaming.
So i am looking for a software fix to disable charging on my phone (i have root / s-off).
That way i can schedule the hack to charge the phone when i am not around and stream using battery when i am. (without having to undock my phone all the time).

Mar 11, 2010I have manually installed the drivers, and I am running windows 7 64-bit. The problem is that my Hero will not connect to my pc as a mass storage device. I pull down the notifications, mount, but then a couple of seconds later, the hero remounts the SD card and closes the connection. My computer will detect it and I can access the "storage device" for a couple of seconds, but then it disconnects.

Jan 13, 2010I just got a Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD unit to replace my DEH-P700BT unit. The P700BT had no issues playing music off my Hero through the USB cable attached to the receiver (just have to mount USB). The P4100DVD however when connected just says "format read" and will stay there. Just trying to figure out if there is a work around to get the USB cable to work with the P4100DVD?? I miss being able to control the music on my phone from the receiver. That is why I am not using the AUX jack. I have also tried turning the USB debugging on and off on my Hero. I know the USB works. I plugged in a thumb drive and it read the music fine.

Mar 6, 2010I am thinking of getting a HTC Hero. I am not well up on smart phones. I do like the iPhone but that seem way too expensive compared to the deal I can get on the Hero. On Google Maps, the manual says the phone needs connected toi wifi oir gprs for GM to work. I am going on holiday and dont want to use a huge amount of GPRS in case the bill starts to mount up for international usage. Can the maps for the area I am going to be cached on the phone in some way?
The other question I have is - can the phone be used as a GPS tracker. Say, recording my location every 10 seconds. Then downloading this to my PC and Google Maps when I get home so i can trace wherev I have been. On comparisons between the Hero and iPhone - this is nearly like a religious debate. Is the Hero a fair match for the iPhone.

If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings.If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone.
