Motorola Droid X :: Right Initial Step To Ensure Maximum Battery Life

Sep 9, 2010

Got my new extended battery today. Before I start using it I wanted to make sure I took the right initial step to ensure maximum battery life. I assume I'll find it with a partial charge when I place it in my DX. Should I fully deplete it before fully charging it? Or should I immediately charge it from partial to full before using it? Or does it not matter?

Android :: How To Approach Socket Programming Between C# -> Java

May 8, 2010

I've recently knocked up a server/client app for Windows & Android that allows one to send a file from Windows to an android phone over a socket connection. It works great for a single file but trying to send multiple files over in a single stream is causing me problems. I've also realised that aside from the binary data, I will need to send messages over the socket to indicate error states and other application messages. I have little experience with network programming and and wondering what is the best way forward.Basically the C# server side of the app just goes into a listening state and uses Socket.SendFile to transmit the file. On Android I use the standard Java Socket.getInputStream() to receive the file. That works great for a single file transfer, but how should I handle multiple files and error/messaging information? Do I need to use a different socket for each file? Should I be using a higher level framework to handle this or can I send everything over the single socket? Any other suggestions for frameworks or learning materials?

Android :: How Much Java Should I Have Learnt Before Trying Droid Programming

Jun 5, 2010

I have been seeking beginner learning books in Android, and of course found out that I should learn Java first. So I began studying Java and now I am quite comfortable with objects, classes, inheritance, interfaces, and just moved onto Layouts in Swing as well as Swing Features. But I am starting to wonder.... do I know enough about Java now? Can I start programming Android yet?

Of course I can keep going in Java, but have been itching to begin programming Android apps.

Any definitive answer here about how much Java I need to know before Android?

Android : Beginning Programmer Interested In Phone - Should I Start With Java?

Apr 21, 2010

I'm a beginner in programming. My experience so far is only in Actionscript 2 and 3. So I have a basic understanding of declaring variables, loops, arrays, if/then, do/while... I'm wanting to move to developing for Android phones so I'm wondering what suggestions people have for where to go next. Should I jump right to Android? Start with a 'beginning Java' approach? Or should I go some other route to beef up my knowledge of OOP concepts before launching into Android? I have my Dev environment set up and completed the Hello Android tutorial and I'm just wondering if I am going to be in over my head quickly?

Android :: Want Step By Step Video Tutorials?

His tutorials are really easy to understand, because he goes through the process as if talking to an elementary school kid.nyway, he just started a tutorial series about developing iPhone apps. Maybe it's time someone from the Android camp did the same? Sure, there are many tutorials already available online, but they don't appeal to the common person, and the good video tutorials on Youtube are all more than one hour long. By doing something like this, more people would be attracted to try develop apps for Android.

Got some purchased apps including Touchdown so I definitely want to preserve those with minimal issues in reloading them without having to purchase them again. I use ADW as my launcher, it would nice to save those settings. Is there a step by step guide or instructions for doing this? I've done this 4 or 5 times over the years with PC's, can't imagine this should be that difficult with the DX.
