View 3 RepliesI have an issue with the "people" (contact) app of ICS.
I am being asked to make an account to make contact groups, which unfortunately I can't allow!
Making offline contact groups without making an account.
I am running on rooted phone with cyanogen mod.
I've seen a few posts about this but nothing to say definitively (thank god for spell check!) if it's possible or not. On my HTC Legend (HTC Sense with Android 2.1) if you go to add and folder from a homescreen you have a choice of All people, Facebook Phonebook, Phones, Starred (Favorites). Is it possible to create another folder that will hold members of a contact group that I have created? I can create a new empty folder but don't know how to put contacts into this instead of other home screen icons (this would do if I can't use contact groups).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAlthough my phone happily syncs contact groups I have added, it doesn't sync any of the default groups already available like family and coworkers. I've got around the problem by creating new groups and using those instead.

How to - create custom icons for folders or add shortcuts into App Organizer Groups
I've been playing around with the App Organizer, and been putting things into folders. However, I am trying to do a few things.
Add shortcuts into the groups App Organizer creates, and/or create custom icons for Folders I put on the Home pages.
For example, I have 6 mail accounts (don't ask) and want to put them in a group called mail. Using AppOrganizer, I can only organizer the main mail icon into the group, I want to add the 5 other shortcuts I created for each account. OR I group them into a folder, but I want to change the folder icon to an envelope.
Also, anyone know any good apps that puts email notifications on the top taskbar?
Coming from a Blackberry, I was able to create a "Group" and add people to that group so that I could send SMS Text messages to those in that group rather than having to add each one individually each time. I haven't found a way to do this on the new Droid. Is there some software/trick that I'm missing? I used this for work when multiple people need to get the same message at the same time.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I click "contacts", it shows "All Groups", not "Phone Contacts". After I switch the display group to "Phone Contacts", it'll stay that way for an hour or so, but later, it'll switch right back to "All contacts". (I have "facebook" and "twitter" groups in contacts as well). Is anyone else having this problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow are people using the contacts manager in EVO? It seems impossible to organize things logically. I can't delete the default groups ("vip", seriously?), which just clutters things up. I can't figure out how to make a folder on a home page from one of my groups. When I sync my contacts into windows, the group assignments gets lost, and I have to sync EVERYTHING, meaning my poker buddies and some chick I saw a movie with once end up on my work computer...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using the Samsung Galaxy S. I have sync working and all my Goggle contacts are listed in my phone. But they all appear in one group, called Google. I have my Google contacts in groups, and had hoped that the sync would bring down the group hierarchy. But it did not. However my phone is aware of the Goggle groups, because if I try to create a group in the phone with the same name as a Goggle group, my phone raises an error saying that the group exists. But I have no visibility to my Goggle groups on the phone. I only see a "Google" group. Is it possible to see my Google groups in the phone? If so, how?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally did a factory reset after installing the froyo update and now have my phone set up just about how it was before. Problem is,I have 180+ Google contacts sorted into 11 different groups and I want to assign a specific ringtone for each group. I did this some time ago before the upgrade for each individual contact but I just don't want to do it again. Yeah I'm lazy but what can I say I thought restoring my contacts would have kept the ringtones synced but it did not.I haven't found an app that will do it (a free app anyway).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have all of my contacts saved to the phone, deleted all contacts saved on SIM. I now saved everything to google contacts, and even after saving some in various groups, I cannot get the groups to sync over to the vibrant. All of the contacts synced perfectly, but not the groups. I even tried making new groups using different names than the generic google group names. If I display contacts from both the phones memory and google contacts, then it will show me the groups I've selected.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI thought the groups were a good idea, but when I select sms or email, it doesn't work. Does it work for anyone else? When I click on send email to group, my gmail opens up with no contacts in the send to field.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have contact groups that I use in the desktop gmail client to send messages to distribution lists without any issues. Those groups get synced to my android contacts and I can see them in the groups tab. However, neither gmail nor any sms app that I have tried actually use these contact groups for anything.
Am I missing some setting for this to work or is this not implemented in android?
This is for people who use GPS a lot. Before I would create groups just for my texting, but Navigation works great too. Took a wine trip to Santa Barbara. Had a few places (hotel, boat cruise, wineries, Santa Barbara Mission, some restaurants, that taco stand Julia Child made famous, etc.), and just created a contact for each. No inputting on phone or using voice, it's already done.Had concert @ Hollywood Bowl. They have shuttle service at some offsite locations like the LA Zoo or in Studio City. I just create a group called Concerts, and copy and paste address from website.Meeting friend at bar never been to? Already have a Group called Bars. Just copy and paste address, and your done.I have groups for everything. Family, San Francisco, San Diego friends, Hotels, Bars, sporting venues, whatever. I cross link whenever I can, Just hit People and slide over to Groups. The whole goal for me is just to hit buttons, and not have to input anything when I'm on run. Use it like AppBrain. So much easier to manage everything from Google contacts page. Just copy and paste eveything.Best part is, can delete or add anytime. Also saves me battery since doing stuff on computer, and everything is synced automatically.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy app (first written for Android 1.6) reads groups and contacts but I have so far only been able to write code for 2.0 that compiles but I have never executed. Since the Contacts API and particularly the way groups work has changed substantially in ways that I haven't quite been able to find out I need to try it on a phone to see how it now works. So is there any way at all I can test contact groups in the emulator? I have looked all over for help on this and all I have been able to glean is that I cannot get groups into the emulator unless I create them in a Google (or other, Exchange?) account then sync with it. However I cannot seem to sync/open an account from my emulator - and this I have read may be impossible as you can only do it from a phone with a valid IMEI.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter updating to 2.1v2 from 1.5 I cant find where you control which groups gets synced. When I go to People->Groups->Menu the option for 'Sync Groups' is missing. I have so many contacts in GMail, id prefer to only sync certain groups.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with using contacts on my droid. From within 'contacts' i hit the 'display options' then selecting the email account I see the drop down for system contact groups-friends, family, coworkers. I am wondering if there is any way to create additional contact types or groups? As in I have a specific group of contacts from one website I want to add to a group--can you create a contact type or contact group?? I can't find the option when adding a new contact or when within the display options as mentioned before.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have about 150 apps installed, but only 30 of them are currently on the homescreen.
Is there a way to add the remaining 120 at once to the homescreens?
If I would have to do it manually (Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1) it would take at least an hour to do (adding one shortcut is extremely slow, as my tab needs about 10 seconds to display the list of apps alone when creating a shortcut).I don't have to do it manually for each app.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried out Flyscreen the other day and found its card-based flipping through rss/facebook/twitter/weather to be very fluid and pretty. The trouble is, I don't really want that as my lockscreen (besides which, it doesn't seem to truly lock the screen). Does anyone know of a similar app that creates a widget I can flip through in a similar way on a homescreen?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a hero and am disappointed that i can only add one custom group and am unable to delete or rename the ones that came with phone. Most group names that came with phone don't work for me. Anyone using an app to give more customization of groups and contacts that will sync up the same as stock app.
