HTC Hero :: How Do Apps Update?
Sep 23, 2009I have only used my hero for the past week so i dont know how this works, but do the apps give notifications as to when we have to update, or is it automatic?

Aug 3, 2010My message apps (native Message and Handcent app) keep on reappearing, even when I kill them.
I've used the Settings > Applications > Running services, also Advanced Task Killer (by ReChild) and Task Manager (by Futon Redemption), but after a few minutes they'll reappear again.
This has only happened after I updated my Hero from 1.5 to 2.1. (I'm on Orange).
This seems to be a reoccurring theme of apps not being killed off after updating to 2.1. Others have reported Amazon MP3 and Skype apps not being killed off and even not uninstalling.
My battery life seems to be draining away now since the 2.1 update, and I'm thinking this may be the message-app-not-sleeping problem, hence my attempts at killing off the native message app.
Does anyone have any ideas to kill these apps off?

Sep 10, 2009I have seen the rooting video by theunlockr and it seems easy enough. And I can follow instructions so installing the ROM should not be an issue.
What/where is the radio update and how do I install it?
If I backup my apps with MyBackupPro, will they be able to receive updates once reinstalled using MyBackupPro?
Is there any word on an official update? Would I receive it direct from HTC or need to wait for an Orange allowed one?

Jul 29, 2010I have the 1.5 right now as i didnt see any reason to update as my phone has left me happy. But i consider it now and want to know will i loose my apps if i update say i have shapewriter and its no longer avalible on the market and i update will i not be able to get it back.

Oct 17, 2010I have alot (and I mean ALOT) of apps on my Xperia, so I get around 5 app updates a day, which is now starting to agitate me because most of them are the same apps everyday needing updates.
Today I heard about an update for the market that includes an auto update feature for installed apps. But I, like many others, do not see this option on the market.
Does anyone have any idea how to get it? or if I can't get it, when can I?

Dec 2, 2009I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the "Update Available From Sprint" thread, making sure I was on v1.29.651.1, yada yada. Worked on this for a week and a half. Spoke with Sprint, spoke with HTC, no luck. Going to firmware update always reported NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.
Took the phone back to Best Buy and demanded an exchange. After receiving the new phone, went to try to firmware update, it showed that one was available. I asked for my old battery back since it was charged fully so that I could do the update. Put my old battery back in, went to update, NO UPDATE AVAILABLE!
Turns out it was my battery? Put the new one back in and the update was successful. I had scoured the net before but did not notice anyone with this particular issue. I

Sep 26, 2010So one of the cool things about Froyo is being able to check off Enable Automatic Update for market apps. So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

I have heard that the newer heroes cant be unlocked because orange have made a deal with htc and changed the codes. Sep 29, 2010I tried the AppBackupReinstall app when I switched EVOs and reinstalled all my apps. But now when I go into the Market it doesn't show any as installed so it doesn't check for updates. The only ones it shows are the purchased apps or the ones I installed from the Market. I can even download the same apps that are already installed and it will download and overwrite them. Any way to back up free apps so they can be reinstalled AND show up in your Market Downloads?

Nov 16, 2010I recently upgraded to a 16G SD card in my N1. I backed up the entire contents of my old 4g card and put them on the new card. Ever since, I have not been able to update any apps that have ever resided on my SD card, even if they are now located on the phone. In an effort to resolve this, I uninstalled the afflicted apps, and now I cannot even download them again! I simply get "installation unsuccessful." Anyone have a fix for this? Got a long road trip coming up and I'd really like the use of some of these apps!

Dec 22, 2009Does anyone know if the upcoming Android 2.1 update to the Sprint Hero will allow us to save apps to the SD card without having to root the phone? And also, some things to think about: remember that the Hero only runs class 2 speeds, even if the card is class 6. Do you think this will change once we receive Android 2.1? Because if not, I would imagine that the phone would be slow opening apps (assuming apps to SD will be available).I know that if they do program the Hero to allow class 6 speeds, and allow apps to SD (without root) then the Hero could run MUCH faster than it does now.
