My HTC Hero uses about 1 Mb per day, while no applications seem to require data. Automatically popping mail has been disabled, and also other data consuming apps aren't running. I switched off cell (3G) so it consumes the data via WiFi. If I switch on 3G, it would also consume via 3G. So, by not using any apps, the Hero seems to consume 1 Mb per day. How come?

I like the new Facebook app. However, it is currently consuming 12.76 MB (this is the data amount) of valuable space on my G1. Unlike many other apps, there is not a Clear Data or Clear Cache button available to recover this space. Anyone else experiencing this? I have deleted apps I seldom use and find it increasingly difficult to keep my G1 from slowing down due to free space 20 MB and lower. I am thinking of deleting the app and reinstalling.

Sometimes I switch data off for a few hours so I don't waste data. I do this by "disabling" The data switch. When it cpmes time to switch it back on, the mobile data doesnt reconnect until i restart the phone
I have enabled "always on mobile data"
Anything else i need to do?
The problem is that, the MMS is disabled during being in roaming and having data switched off. Is there a way to make MMS messages working while the Internet data is switched off ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt seems that one of the biggest drains on the battery is apps synchronizing constantly but I'm still confused as to how to set the phone up with this in mind! Should Background data be switched off?! What's the difference between Background data and Auto-sync in settings? Which should be on, or should both be off?
I guess what I'm ideally looking for is one button I can press on my Homescreen which will sync everything when I want it to, say a couple of times a day. I'm thinking gmail, news and sports updates, weather, that sort of thing.
Or am I being too fussy? It seems a shame to have such a clever phone but have to have everything switched off because of the battery. I'm tempted to have everything switched on constantly and just charge it all night every night, have it on charge at work and carry a charger in the car just in case. Does anyone else do this?
If people more knowledgeable than me about this (not difficult ) could post how they have their phones set up this would be extremely useful to me and I'm sure lots of other peeps!
I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with this - phone has only been on for 2 hours after an all night charge, I've done practically nothing with it and the battery indicator in the notification bar has already run down slightly!
Am I the only one having this problem? I'm quite new to this handset, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong. the alarm only goes off if the phone is left switched on. Any ideas?
View 41 Replies View Relatedi last week took a HTC hero out on contract and switched from my iphone 3g, which i loved dearly reason being i wanted to use spotify to its full potential without having to shutdown etc.It's definately the best decision i ever took, i absolutely love the android platform and would recomend anyone else thinking of doing the same. A few question thought i have about the Hero;
1) battery life, seems pretty short? can i buy a better battery without having ot change the back cover? I like the idea of being able to carry a spare?
2)When on the internet/browser it always opens pages zoomed in, i find it pretty hard to use compared to the iphone, can i set it so that it open the page like a normal pc/iphone?
3)And how do i know i'm getting a 3g signal ?
4)Upgrade for Android? How do i get them? I read there is a better version but how do i upgrade it?
Has anyone experienced this drastic amount of battery use? Im on Villain 5.4 and this is atcually awful.

These numbers are starting from 100% battery, and after a reboot - the only thing I open is settings to check the battery level, and then I lock it and leave it for 6 hours. In all cases the final awake time is low, less than 15% (because I'm doing nothing with it). Full data-sync mode - gmail sync, twitter, etc - about 10% battery use per hour. Retro mode - GSM only, data switched off - 6 % per hour. Airplane mode - 3.5% per hour - WTF?? (Awake time ~1%) Why is battery consumed when it's doing sod all?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI really like to run Dolphin in the background and it runs fine (on Fresh 1.1 with Gumbo Kernel + setcpu) and I have 2-3 tabs open and everything else runs fine. I try not to run too much else (if I do ebuddy it gets slow, so I usually don't), but I was wondering how bad this was to do, and if I could check somehow how bad it was. I don't know a way to tell how draining this is on the battery or how the phone runs, is there any way to check?

This is crazy - Google (and by default Moto) and Verizon should have worked out a clean way to get phones switched over.
Since I keep the same number (as I expect most people do), and since I have not gotten any gCal sms reminders, I went into gCal >settings> mobile> and re-entered my phone number in order to activate the send verification code button, and got this msg Phone notifications disabled.
Anyone have any ideas? There must/should be an easy solution.
i am searching for an Video Player that Plays the Video while the Screen is switched Off.I am using the Samsung Galaxy S2 device, and all Video Players from the Play Store i tried are stopping the Video when i switch off the Screen.
It might seems unusual to play a video while the Screen is switched off.
First, these screen shots were taken after the battery had been fully charged 2 hours prior. I pulled it off right after the light turned green, so that isn't the issue. Also, I've already done the charge, turn off, charge, turn on, etc. thing. My light turned green almost instantly the first time I turned it off and plugged it back in. The screen was on 18.5% of the time during this stretch, so that's pretty heavy usage. But why would the system have been running 53.3% of the time? I wouldn't think that number would/should be much higher than the screen-on time.

I am currently using a HTC Hero (Sprint) and am purchasing a HTC Evo next week and I was wondering if the battery consumption is similar or a lot worse / better etc. with my Hero I have like gps, wifi, bluetooth off and all the other tricks? I don't mind having all that disabled it never bother me as I really never use twitter, facebook and the gmail app works just fine for me. With my Hero I can get through the day always with all that disabled so any insight if the Evo is similar would be appreciated! Oh and I am not a former blackberry user that expects my phone to last six days on a charge.

Ever since I activated, I keep getting an error/warning message in my notification bar called "Motorola Service Account Error" saying:
"The account you are using is associated with another device. Please contact customer service to reset the device."
When I clear the notification, it always comes back a while later. I never had another phone with Blur on it, but this sounds like the whole Motorola account thing they would make you sign up for to use the phone. But that makes no sense because we don't have to do that for the X.
Can anyone figure this one out, specifically why it's there and how to make it stop?? I think when I check for any OTA system updates is when I am getting the message to come up the most. The update check fails every time with "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later." Then, the Motorola warning shows up in the notifications again.
Also, every time I try to do *228 to try to update roaming, it plays the music for a bit but always says "I am sorry, your activation cannot be completed at this time" and tells me a phone number to call.

Just getting started.Today, I got a case for it, when I got home I took it out of the case and the dialer, launcher and contact icons, which were along the bottom, were suddenly instead down the right side. I want my service to stay alive until the phone is switched off. How can i do this? The idea is that when I receive an incoming call, I want to start recording and once the status changes to idle, I want to stop the recording. I am doing this inside my service. Is this because my phone isn't calibrated right? And when it does, it often doesn't switch back to the portrait mode even if I shake it upright - I have to exit the app/browser back to Home screen (which is always portrait) and then re-enter the app/browser and it shows up the correct way.
