HTC Desire :: 3G / HSDPA Doesn't Reconnect After Wi-Fi

Apr 20, 2010

Often, after I leave a Wi-Fi hotspot, the 3G/HSDPA fails to reconnect and I get the "Unable to connect to the internet, check your settings" message. I've tried toggling the data connection on/off, airplane mode on/off, GSM/WCDMA on/off, but the only thing that seems to work is turning the phone off and on again. "Enable always-on mobile data connection" is checked. There seem to be a few people over at the XDA forum experiencing similar problems, and I've sent a message to HTC support. Does anyone else here have this issue?

HTC Hero :: 3G Switched Off And Data Consumption

Mar 2, 2010

My HTC Hero uses about 1 Mb per day, while no applications seem to require data. Automatically popping mail has been disabled, and also other data consuming apps aren't running. I switched off cell (3G) so it consumes the data via WiFi. If I switch on 3G, it would also consume via 3G. So, by not using any apps, the Hero seems to consume 1 Mb per day. How come?

HTC Desire : Preserving Battery Life / Should Background Data Be Switched Off

Jun 26, 2010

It seems that one of the biggest drains on the battery is apps synchronizing constantly but I'm still confused as to how to set the phone up with this in mind! Should Background data be switched off?! What's the difference between Background data and Auto-sync in settings? Which should be on, or should both be off?

I guess what I'm ideally looking for is one button I can press on my Homescreen which will sync everything when I want it to, say a couple of times a day. I'm thinking gmail, news and sports updates, weather, that sort of thing.

Or am I being too fussy? It seems a shame to have such a clever phone but have to have everything switched off because of the battery. I'm tempted to have everything switched on constantly and just charge it all night every night, have it on charge at work and carry a charger in the car just in case. Does anyone else do this?

If people more knowledgeable than me about this (not difficult ) could post how they have their phones set up this would be extremely useful to me and I'm sure lots of other peeps!

I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with this - phone has only been on for 2 hours after an all night charge, I've done practically nothing with it and the battery indicator in the notification bar has already run down slightly!

General :: OpenPDroid Doesn't Seem To Spoof Location Data

Nov 11, 2013

So I have successfully gotten OpenPdroid patched on my CM10.1.3 rom, but it isn't behaving the way I would expect. I set the coordinates to 25N 71W for all apps with access to location information. I configured this across all apps requesting GPS as well as Network Location data. I then fired up my browser and navigated to google maps. The location shown was my actual physical location. What gives?

FTR, I'm willing to follow instructions and experiment to determine the root cause of the problem. I didn't want to give too many unnecessary details in my initial post. My strategy is "start general, get more specific as needed."

General :: Mobile Data Connection Doesn't Work After Using WiFi?

Jul 15, 2012

I am using ICS Evervolv a5 on my N1. The mobile data connection works only if I don't connect to a WiFi network. If I do, the only way I have found to make it work again is to reboot the phone.

This means that while I am at home, everything works through WiFi, however, if I leave home, I have to reboot my phone once I am sure the phone is far enough from my WiFi access point to be able to connect. Then, it starts working with the cellular data plan

The only thing I can relate to this is that I have the "application protection" app installed, protecting the settings menu do with a code so my kids don't mess up with that. However, is still hard to believe that's the culprit.

Samsung Vibrant :: 4 Hours Of Use Or 48 Hours On Standby

Oct 4, 2010

Do those numbers seem normal to the rest of you? Right now if I am using my phone for browsing, video, etc. it will run the battery from full charge to dead in just under 4 hours. If I just leave the phone turned on but with no apps running (standby) it runs out of power in roughly 48 hours. Is this the battery life I should expect from this phone?

Motorola Milestone :: Milestone Using Battery In 7 Hours - GPRS/3G Data Running Etc

Feb 2, 2010

My Motorola has begun to behave strangely. I think they lost the battery too quickly, so I have yesterday installed Netcounter and a Task Manager to see what it may be due.

Since yesterday, it downloaded 53 MB of data, including 28 MB today. It's too much, because I have hardly used it for anything but standby. There obviously mail pops up on it, but I read them on my PC. I have not used Google Maps, Web browsing or other things.

WiFi is off, but my battery is at 50% (this morning at 7:30 am, it was at 100% - now 4 hours later it's 50%).

Last night the Milestone was warm on the backside, but not where the battery is placed, but closer to where the sender/radio is placed.

Conclusion: Some programs must be running all the time,

1 hour ago I closed all programs using Task Manager.
But now, all these apps seems to be running (according to task manager):
*Netcounter
Phone Portal
Calendar
*Handcent SMS
**Alarm Clock
Music
Settings
Email (ikke google mail)
Maps
Media Gallery
Bluetooth file transfer
Smart Alarm clock
Messaging
Facebook (jeg bruger ikke facebook widget)
MyBackup
Corporate calendar (ikke google kalenderen, men en kalender der kan synkronisere med outlook)
**CalWidget
*Gmail
AK Notepad
Photoshop.com mobile

Practically all programs. I have only used programs marked *
** = programs I can understand if they're running, i.e. widgets

Why does all my programs start? And which are using the Internet?

I looked at settings -> about phone -> battery usage:
android.process.acore: 71%
Facebook: 6%
display 5%
Android system 5%
Phone idle 4%
Cell standby 3%
Google 3%
Android os 2%

Cell Standby should be >90% since I've not using the phone today.

Any ideas? Should I erase all and restart? Or is it because I have not updated yet (still running the 2.0 version from out of the box)

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: WiFi Won't Reconnect

Aug 21, 2010

I have set up the phone to connect to my home wifi connection and it does this just fine. Once connected I can do everything I wan't. Upload, download, browse and so on.But after a while, once the phone has been asleep, the wifi connection is dropped and the phone drops back onto the cellular data connection. The problem is that once it has done this, the only way to reconnect to the wifi is to switch off wifi and switch it back on again at which point it works fine again until next time it goes to sleep.I have checked the wifi sleep settings etc and this does not help so any clues? How can I persuade this phone to connect to wifi when it's available. Likewise, my other phone (a HTC Desire) will always connect to the wifi if it is in range so I am happy that this is a phone specific issue.

Nexus :: Wi-Fi Randomly Disconnects And Won't Automatically Reconnect

May 8, 2010

My Nexus One exhibits a very strange and annoying behavior at home.It will sporadically disconnect from my home Wi-Fi and will not automatically reconnect. However, if I go into the settings and choose to manually reconnect it will do it 100% of the time.I have the settings on the Nexus One set to never put the wi-fi to sleep so there is no reason that it should be disconnecting.Has anyone else had an issue like this? Anyone have any advice on solving this problem?I am using a fairly old linksys router WRT54G but I have never had any problems maintaining connections with any of my other devices including laptops, Wii's and iphones so it seems like it must be an issue with the Nexus One.

General :: Pause ActiveSync Or Suppress Notification During Off Hours

Feb 20, 2013

I have CM10.1 (I'm using the nightlies) and I'm using the stock email app which I love. However it's missing one feature that I'm hoping another app (whether that's a replacement email app or something that works with the stock email app) might have.

I'd like to "pause" direct-push email functionality during a certain time frame. Essentially I'm tired of seeing emails during my off-hours and I'd like to stop it from syncing automatically during those hours. Just suppress the notification during those hours (it can sync all it wants as long as I don't see it).

Is this a possibility with the stock app?
