Samsung Moment :: How To Root Phone?
Sep 24, 2010Anyone in the Central FL area that would be willing to help me root this phone? I just got my moment 2 weeks ago. I tried rooting it today by following what seemed to be fairly simple instructions but when I went to do the recovery part, I got this message..."Samsung PST MFC Application has stopped working". I tried going thru the whole process again while phone was still plugged in but I kept getting same msg. When I unplugged it and tried turning it on, all I would get was a pic of a phone, a question mark, and a computer. I had to hard boot it. Once I did that, it was on the 1.5 version. I had to take it to the fix it shop to get the upgrade and my contacts back. I'm very scared to even try this again myself but I want it rooted so bad! I want to be able to use it as a modem for my laptop.

Aug 12, 2010I bought an used Samsung Moment via Craiglist about 3 weeks ago. Initially, I had to wiggle my cable to get it charged. After few days, it was not charging nor communicating with my laptop via USB cable. Of course, the Craiglist seller was not willing help me.
After contacting Samsung, I had sent it in to be fixed since it was still under warranty. It just came back today with a note saying:
Your phone is damaged beyond economical repair in the form of a warped board, or missing or damaged components. The factory warranty has been voided.
I know that I can charge my battery via some kind of external batter charger that is around, but can I update my phone and/or root my phone without using USB cable? Can I use a bluetooth connection? If not any idea or suggestion?

and on another android forum. every thread is huge with a TON of people having problems and answers scattered everywhere. Is there one place with an updated guide for windows and mac or just mac that officially roots so I can install custom ROMs? What about downgrading? I've been bouncing all around to different forums and guides and none are clear. The XDA thead by toast also says his root doesn't allow custom ROMs but I've seen custom ROMs mentioning toast?

May 27, 2010I followed all of these instructions to downgrade my wife's rooted 2.1 and it seems to have worked fine. I've got it back to 1.5. She wanted the OTA upgrade because the 2.1 rooted version was giving her the silent call issue. Again, I went back to 1.5 because I wanted the OTA update. After doing this, she got the OTA update notification, it downloaded, processed and then failed. I've also tried to install the OTA manually and it won't work. The hboot is version 1.47. Has anybody had success downgrading their 2.1 rooted install to 1.5 and then getting the OTA update to work? I'm back at 1.5. What should I do next to get the OTA update working?

Apr 9, 2010My phone is not rooted yet. I just got it, first Android phone... taking my time.
Question 1:
I got the Open Home .apk, and while I like most features of Open Home, I don't like the icons it uses. I'd rather use the default Android icons. And I can't figure out how... there are no "default Android icon packs" out there. So I got clever. I opened my .apk with WinRar on a PC, found all the new icons I didn't like, and replaced them with the standard icons (which I cleverly extracted from the Android SDK).
However, I guess I wasn't so clever, because the new modified .apk won't install. I guess the creator of the .apk put in a protection of some sort to not let it install if it's been modified? Way over my head at this point...
Question 2:
If I root my phone, will I be able to access the root structure from PC over USB link? I was thinking, maybe the modified Open Home .apk won't install, but if I were able to get into the already installed default Open Home, and then replace the icons, maybe I'd have more success that way.
Samsung Moment :: Evdo Comes And Goes After De03 And Root
May 16, 2010Anyone else been having trouble with their network only sometimes working? After installing de03 and rooting yesterday I have been having. Issues with my network only sometimes working. I can get into the market place find apps but when I try to download o update aps it sometimes only does one or two before it hangs then throws an error message saying problem with the network. Then the evdo icon completly dissapears and I have to cycle it in and out of airplane mode to get the network back. My wifi works great but trying to use the cell for Internet I lose all connection as soon as I try to download anything from the marketplace

Apr 14, 2010I am new to this (less than a week) and I removed everything with root explorer (and it was so simple). You can get it from the market. I would recommend it if you are not used to linux commands. It was well worth the two dollars for me. The main thing to know is r/w (read/write) vs. r/o (read only). It is just as it says - r/o will only let you read files, while r/w will let you read AND write files (which includes move and delete).

Once applied it totally removed JI6 and reverted the phone back to the original stock firmware. Or so they claim. So I guess it is a downgrade update lol.I don't know if this is a hoax, or what is going on. I think it is best not to apply any OTA you get, just yet. Until people figure out what is going on, and why the downgrade is occurring. Jun 8, 2013i have a samsung galaxy S3 with t-mobile. i recently updated to jelly bean 4.1.2 and disliked the new gallery and a couple of other new functions so i decided to downgrade. i dl odin v. 1.85 and jelly bean 4.1.1 and started the process. it failed and when i reboot my phone the triangle warning about putting it in kies emergency recovery mode pops up whenever i turn it on regularly. i can go into the downloading menu so i know its not bricked or completely ruined but i don't know what to do from here. i did follow the phone instructions and dl kies and try getting into emergency recovery mode but it wont recognize my phone. i tried another Samsung phone and it picked it up right away.
