HTC Eris :: Overclocking Necessary On Rooted Device?
Nov 23, 2010I rooted the other day and I have seen a lot of talk about it but I'm not sure on exactly how to do it or if it would even make enough of a difference. I'm running KaosV 38.

So after you guys root your Incredible, what do you do, use or install beside overclocking and tethering?
View 35 Replies View RelatedI rooted my Droid incredible 2 days ago so bare with me as I am still trying to understand all this new terminology and get the fullest use out of my phone. I was wondering about Kernals, overclocking and underclocking. I would like to increase my battery life as we all know how crappy it can be under normal use. I am running Skyraider 3.3 now because I enjoy the stock look of the HTC sense and I am using ADW.launcher as well. I downloaded a kernal for Skyraider but I can't tell what the speeds are and change them up. I saw a program called setcpu for rooted users on the market. Anyone have any experience with this app and is it worth the money? I am not wanting to slow down the performance of my phone but I still want to be able to have a good battery life. Anyone have any suggestions for a kernal to use or anyone using setcpu have a suggestions for a good speed to use.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen it comes to overclocking is it strictly a hardware thing with these phones? I see a lot of threads where people are clocked at 768 or up to 806 with no issues. I can't go over 710 without issues. Even at 729 I start to get random force closes and at 748 it completely craps out. I'm fine with 710 if that is how far I can go, but I was wondering if this is a normal thing? I know some hardware is better than others, I am a hardware technician, but that much better?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI rooted and now have Amon's recovery on my phone. I downloaded SetCpu and ran it but it will only let me overclock to 528 max. What steps do I need to do so I can overclock in the 700's like everyone else.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have Evil Eris 3.0 and I have downloaded SetCPU. Question is: How do I overclock my phone (make it faster?) What do I do once in Set CPU?
View 49 Replies View RelatedI'm an Incredible user, but my girlfriend has an Eris. I'm tired of hearing her bitch about the speed of the phone, and how it occasionally locks up on her, so (now that the easy root method for leaker's is out) I'm about to root her phone and install a custom ROM. Now, I have a few questions for you folks since I'm not familiar with the Eris community at all (and I have some time constraints since she needs her phone back).
1. I'm looking for a ROM recommendation. What I'm looking for is something extremely stable and fast. I don't need any bells/whistles. She doesn't use tethering, at all but it must have GPS/Camera/Blue tooth/MMS working. Don't really care if it has Sense, but if there is something fast/stable WITH sense, that would not be a bad thing. Most important things are speed and bug-free (or damn close). Froyo would be nice (obviously).
2. I am unfamiliar with overclocking. I come from a phone where you overclock by installing a hydra kernel, so I don't know how this works on the Eris. It sounds like I will have to manually set up overclocking in Set CPU, and I'm not familiar with the application. If anyone can give me some tips on how to do this, or recommended settings that would be AWESOME. One thing to keep in mind is that this is not my phone, so I won't have time to tinker with trial and error (in other words I won't be able to start testing at 850mhz and work my way down until it's stable).I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm hoping some of you guys will be able to help me out given the circumstances. Thanks in advance.
Just rooted, was much easier than I thought. Having issues with SetCPU. I've paid and installed the app but it's read only. There's a button to run disable perflock, which was recommended for HTC users, though the things runsa dn comes back that I don't need to disable perflock.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been rooted since shortly after 2.2 dropped and it broke the SiriusXM app. I love having the ability to do so much with the phone . My question is kind of specific to an application and general to the nature of a rooted device. I have been playing World of Warcraft for 5 years now and with the always present threat of being hacked and all of my in-game items, characters and account being stolen I added the mobile authenticator app as soon as it was available for Android devices. For those who don't know what this is, it is an app which you add to your in game account and will generate a key which you put in upon login that adds an extra layer of security to your account.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy app has a certain piece of functionality that will only work on a device where root is available. Rather than having this feature fail when it is used (and then show an appropriate error message to the user), I'd prefer an ability to silently check if root is available first, and if not, hide the respective options in the first place.

The sad thing is an error pops up when I try to stream videos saying it won't work on a rooted device(which my Note 2 is). I tried following the guide for HBO nordic [URL] but I couldn't find the function that would be similar to checkRoot() . how to find it?
I downloaded Eternity Warriors 2, started playing, then when I decided to play online, I can't play PVP because my device is rooted. I've tried a bunch of apps that hide root, or temporarily unroot, and this game somehow can still see it. All I can find online is Glu Mobile is doing this cuz they think a rooted device is capable of hacking their game.....even though it's server sided. Any way to bypass this, or hide my root from this game?
