I am VERY interested in rooting my Droid Eris...but I am VERY new to it..I don't understand overclocking or whatnot or even what ROMs are in general..should I root?

I'm an Incredible user, but my girlfriend has an Eris. I'm tired of hearing her bitch about the speed of the phone, and how it occasionally locks up on her, so (now that the easy root method for leaker's is out) I'm about to root her phone and install a custom ROM. Now, I have a few questions for you folks since I'm not familiar with the Eris community at all (and I have some time constraints since she needs her phone back).
1. I'm looking for a ROM recommendation. What I'm looking for is something extremely stable and fast. I don't need any bells/whistles. She doesn't use tethering, at all but it must have GPS/Camera/Blue tooth/MMS working. Don't really care if it has Sense, but if there is something fast/stable WITH sense, that would not be a bad thing. Most important things are speed and bug-free (or damn close). Froyo would be nice (obviously).
2. I am unfamiliar with overclocking. I come from a phone where you overclock by installing a hydra kernel, so I don't know how this works on the Eris. It sounds like I will have to manually set up overclocking in Set CPU, and I'm not familiar with the application. If anyone can give me some tips on how to do this, or recommended settings that would be AWESOME. One thing to keep in mind is that this is not my phone, so I won't have time to tinker with trial and error (in other words I won't be able to start testing at 850mhz and work my way down until it's stable).I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm hoping some of you guys will be able to help me out given the circumstances. View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen it comes to overclocking is it strictly a hardware thing with these phones? I see a lot of threads where people are clocked at 768 or up to 806 with no issues. I can't go over 710 without issues. Even at 729 I start to get random force closes and at 748 it completely craps out. I'm fine with 710 if that is how far I can go, but I was wondering if this is a normal thing? I know some hardware is better than others, I am a hardware technician, but that much better?

View 49 Replies View RelatedROM discussions keep popping up in the root threads and is getting difficult to weed through for info. I can see what kind of ROMs are available, but to be honest, I'd really like to hear what people who are using various ones think of them as far as what works and what doesn't work and I'm sure new rooters would find this usefull as well when deciding.
I am currently using Plain Jane and although I like the Sense UI and most everything seems to work ok, I'm finding that I'm not totally happy with it. Little quirks like Facebook not populating my address book, and the font gets a tad hard to read with alot of text.
I don't think it supports a2sd, but I'm not 100% positive on that.
So what is everyone else using and what do you think of it as far as what works and what doesn't work in it.
Just rooted, was much easier than I thought. Having issues with SetCPU. I've paid and installed the app but it's read only. There's a button to run disable perflock, which was recommended for HTC users, though the things runsa dn comes back that I don't need to disable perflock.

Today I decided to try out ClockworkMod's recovery because I had heard that it will install packages without a signature. So I flashed the latest Clockwork Recovery. Everything went fine, but when I tried to install any new Roms such as Evil Eris 4.0, nothing happened. It just would reboot into the stock ROM.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an eris flashed with PB00IMG and I believe I have root access. I am able to remove apps through terminal. I cannot get the google maps to update. I have removed maps.apk, htcnavi.apk and com.google.android.maps.jar. I have removed these separately and all together. I have been able to get it to update before, but I reflashed the PB00IMG because I could not get youtube videos to play without the stock browser. I got the youtube videos working again but cannot remember how to get the maps to update again. I wanted to try flashing different roms. I have downloaded a couple, placed them on the sdcard, and booted but I cannot get them to boot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have a rooted Eris (checked positively using terminal emulator) running a 2.1v3 ROM. What I'd like to do is eventually get to the 2.1 OTA ROM. Earlier I downloaded ROM Manager which, after some searching gave me some problems other people have been having. I can't flash to the ClockworkMod recovery image as it gives me a "Error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" message. I tried reinstalling, fixing permissions etc. all with the same results. So now i'm trying to flash Amon's recovery image instead using Terminal Emulator and the command line: flash_image recovery /sdcard/file_name_here.img only to yield the message that the file could not be found or something. I'm on a mac and I saw another way on here that involves running commands from your computer to your phone using the skd. I started to do that only to run into a "permission denied" when attempting the first "adb" command line. Am I missing something? I'm trying to read and re-read as closely as I can. I'm not entirely comfortable with this whole process but I'm trying to take the time to really understand it and i'm still having difficulties.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust a little heads up out there for people like me who flash roms ten times a day. If you haven't already experienced this issue, you are likely to come across it in the future.
It is probably a good idea to make a backup of the contents of your sd card to keep when flashing from an a2sd enable rom to a non a2sd enabled rom. If your partitioned for a2sd and flash a non a2sd rom it will hold you phone at the boot screen or send you into an endless boot cycle.
I had to take everything off my sd card, re format the card, then flash the rom before I could load everthing back onto the card.
I may be a total noob, and for all you smart people this is probably a no brainer. But if I can keep anyone else from having this headache I thought it best to post it.
I have huawei 8120 aka vodafone 845 on 2.3.7 slyking241 rom and overclocked to 768mhz from 600mhz and the 768mhz is the max on this rom and all others to this phone and im looking for a way to overclock the phone even higher for better performance.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed a new Kernel on my Samsung Galaxy S plus. Its on CyanogenMod 10.1. I overclocked the default 1.4 GHz processor to 1.8 GHz. Mistakenly i set the options on the app as set on boot. Now after booting its freezing up. I can boot in Recovery mode. how to push the stock kernel file to the SD card?I don't have any backup ROMs or kernels on the phone. Neither is the Debugging mode on.I don't want to do a factory reset now. Using ADB i tried the push option
K:ADB>adb.exe push Stock_Kernel.zip /sdcard/
this also showed that the file was pushed

but there is no zip file on the sdcard

Now that I'm rooted, I'm anxious to try out some custom ROMs, but too impatient for Eris-specific ones to be released. Do ya'll think ROMs made for the Hero will work fine on the Eris?

There is no mention of our own classes, only Android's standard classes. It's obvious that this exception takes place when scrolling of item list (ListView) occurs, but I can't even uderstand how I can fix this bug. I can't reproduce this bug.
