Just wondering if the 1.5-2.1 root is worth switching phones with my girlfriend. Any and all opinions appreciated as usual, but please, only if you ACTUALLY have root .

View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a factory reset last week after reading some of the posts about it here. I had some lag issues, and the Verizon tech also suggested that. I also did the *228 tip to reprogram the phone as was suggested. It was OK for a few days, but I'm having similar problems again. Before I go to Verizon, I thought I'd list them here and see what you good folks thought.
1) I still get terrible lag from time to time, and at all different times. I know that when I'm trying to do something with the battery low (under 25% lets say), its slow, but I chalk that off as understandable.
2) Sometimes when I send a text message out, I see that it takes at least 5 minutes to get sent. During this time, I do notice that time in the notification bar is anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes behind. Then, after a few minutes, catches back up to be in sync with the time shown on the HTC Sense widget on my home screen. BTW, that frozen time has occurred when the phone is just sitting there, not necessarily during a text message being sent, so SOMETHING is bogging it down.
3) Sometimes, and this has been increasing over the last few days, when I try to type something, either in a text message or in someone's contact info, I get the text box up and the virtual keyboard, but no text shows up at all when I'm typing. I see the characters that pop up, but nothing ends up in the text box. I have to exit out of that app and try again later. Very frustrating when you're trying to text someone and you have to wait 5-10 minutes to do it.
4) I know about the battery issues and how poor the battery life is. I've tried to remedy that by only checking my email, Twitter, and Facebook once per hour, but my battery still drains pretty fast. Today, for example, I took the phone off of the charger @ 7:30am. It was at 28% left @ noon! Granted, some of the issues that I describe above were going on and probably had a lot to do with that (clock lagging behind, texts taking 5 minutes to go out), but still, almost 75% of the battery gone after only 4 hours SUCKS! I've done the usual remedies (power the phone down then back on; battery pull; factory reset last week, etc.). It seems to help for a very short period of time but reverts back to the problems I describe above. So, is a trip to Verizon in my future? If they replace it, is a refurb acceptable to get? I've read varying stories ranging from "my refurb works like a charm" to "my refurb has the same issues as my old phone". I don't want to inherit the same problem, or someone else's problem. Am I basically stuck here until my "new every 2" is up in November 2011?
Why or why not please. Also what makes the paid version of pedant better than free version?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a Nexus One user so already using froyo and of course stoked with it.Given that the phone is already superfast and tethering works, is there any real benefit to root, and / or custom ROMs?Previous to froyo the main motivation for custom rom would have been tethering but thats now moot. I am happy with stock android UI and wouldn't bother for just ui tweaks. I am interested however in possibility of getting better battery life, but am leery of losing the comfortable convenience of OTA stock updates. One of the reasons I picked an N1 at the time was that I knew I'd be getting 2.1 and 2.2 before any other model also side question, when you go custom rom and do a backup before flashing, does restoring the backup literally restore everything (apps, data, settings etc.) completely? i.e. everything remains in exactly the right place, your apps are all 100% intact, gmail/contacts/exchange/sms etc. all there etc.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI haven't paid for any apps yet though I have bought smartphone apps in the past, plenty actually (former Crackberry user). The thing that I love about the Android platform is that there's so many choices for anything you can think of in terms of everyday use and the free versions are actually good and well maintained.
With that all said and done, what are some apps for the Motorola Droid that you feel are worth my money? So far I've considered a few...
1. Beautiful Widgets (Love the clock look + it has weather which I like and toggle buttons for wi-fi/gps/etc)
2. Abduction (free version is fantastic so just to support the developer I'm considering getting the paid version)
3. GDE/Dxtop, haven't decided which I want, but I will be trying them out individually before I decide on a purchase, the moto droid forum seems pretty split on which is better/more stable.
If i were to switch phones (to say rhe nexsus one when it becomes available for vzw) How would i get my paid apps onto my new phone?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have tazz 7 currently and up until now I have never wiped because it was not required. So is the jump from 7 to 8 worth the effort of backing up. I use astro because it is faster than the free version of titanium and froyo never seems to reload all of my apps for some reason.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i found this link from theunlockr.com which shows you how to root your eris and put 2.1 on it. I want 2.1 but i am not sure about the root. Any cons to rooting? Will i still receive ota updates? Anything i can do with rooted eris that i can't do with non-rooted that would make the phone a lot better? I don't want to overclock it i am just looking for more options with the phone. Will i lose all my contacts and apps by doing this? Can i use different apps like the ones the moto droid can use but i can't because i am on 1.5?

View 1 Replies View RelatedDon't burn me at the stake, but I want to switch back from Google Voice, but when I switch to carrier voicemail, it asks for a voicemail number, which I assumed was my phone number, but when I enter that, calling voicemail just goes to voicemail, as if someone called me. My reason for switching is because the SMS feature is about 25% accurate and when I turned that off, I stopped getting sotifications that I had received a Voicemail.

My idea would be a 1x1 shortcut I could put on my home screen to switch to my "work" scene. Then in the work scene I would put one to take me back to my "home" scene.

I like the eris a lot, mostly because of it's size and the senseUI, but a part of me yearns for the larger, sharper display of the moto droid. Now, I've noticed my eris is starting to chug slowly to do things like typing, changing apps and I'm not sure if it's just because I'm running a bunch of stuff at once or what, but its making me feel like I'd rather have the powerful processor of the droid as well.But, what if I get the droid and decide that I liked the eris better. Will I be stuck with the droid or can I return it and go back to the eris? I guess what I'm really looking for is an explanation of verizon's return policy and perhaps some feedback from those of you who switched from eris to droid.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI rooted using a video i found on you tube. the process involved using unprovoked and amon_ra, i downgraded to 2.1 and loaded a stock sense 2.2. However, as i was exploring and reading up on roms i saw that many people said that unprovoked was a bad way to go due to some problems. So now im scared to load any roms/themes. is there a way for me to switch my root from the unprovoked method to the other method?

My droid is rooted and I have run the 2.1 rom but I switched back to 2.0.1 because of some issues with the rom. I am hoping it is just a matter of swapping out the Nandroid files like I did when I returned to 2.0.1. I am missing the cool features of 2.1!

For example, yesterday i took a picture on a trip, and on the ride home, went to look at the picture in my gallery, and under the picture it read Dayton, Ohio. It knew where I took the picture!
Anyways enough of my droid love, i've got some questions for you droid gurus.
1. I want to root my phone so badly. Im afraid of it bricking though. But the thing is, ive done a lot of research, and it seems bricking hardly ever happens. I want to overclock and i really want some kick ass ROMS! Should i do on pc or my pro?
2. My screen, when closed, when you tap on the screen near the lower left corner, the screen taps. Like the screen is loose. I wanna take it to verizon. But i wanna root. But i want my warranty still usable.
Hey everybody, I've looked for an answer on here, but to no avail. I tried to root my replacement Eris with 1.5, and HBOOT 1.47. Everything was going well until it got to the point of making a recovery, which for some reason, my phone wouldn't let me do. Infuriated and frustrated, I followed the steps to go back to 1.5 to a tee. However, I miss Vlingo so much, and i went to install the OTA 2.1, and it aborted the installation. I now have HBOOT 1.49.2000, so does my phone basically think I have the 2.1v3 leak, or am I just flat-out screwed? Done multiple factory resets, etc. and they haven't helped either

I have downloaded sdk and all of the drivers but can not figure out how to get step #10 You can test to make sure everything is working by going to a command prompt, go tools directory of the Android SDK, and type: "ad b shell". If you see a "$" (or "#" if you're already rooted) sign you're good. How do you go to the TOOLS directory of SDK and type ad b shell when I am in my tools directory I do not have a command prompt. When I open a command prompt I can not figure out how to get to where I need to be... Guess this is over my head I can build a Harley motor in my sleep but can not figure this out Any help would be great thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb questions but I cant figure it out.

My parents are looking to upgrade their regular phones (for free) and I was going to recommend the eris (from amazon) to them. I have heard some talk of not having very good signal and mention of some bugs and want to know how much truth there is behind these (especially signal) or if they were lemons, etc. if it matters all my parents would do is call/text (obviously), email sync, and maybe browse the web every once in a while. Bugs with, say face book, wouldn't matter.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a refurbished phone to replace my last one. I rooted it using gscript. This is how I rooted my previous phone. On my last phone I flashed plain Jane. This time i do not want a Rom just Su so I can install wireless tether. After using gscript it tells me I now have a rooted phone I reboot goto market install wireless tether than when I attempt to use it it tells me I need a rooted phone. What am I missing?

I have the Eris and like you guys say its a ok phone but i just want that faster speed!!! I bid 290.00 on it on ebay thinking i never had a shot it says the phone has no scratches on it anywhere and is only a month old with a clean ESN and no contract. well like i said i won the phone and she is not happy with me lol, i guess being i just bought my eris 4 months ago.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy question is when you root the Eris is anything lost such as data on the phone that will have to be re-installed? Or is does it wipe the phone? I would prefer not to have to re-install but I will if it is necessary. Also will I be able to receive any further OTA updates? I know that the one scheduled for tomorrow is most likely the last that this phone will see but just in case I want all of my bases covered. I would also like to take advantage of possibly putting 2.2 on it if there is not an official release so I can take advantage of the awesome features that 2.2 offers. I really don't care about loosing SenseUi because I use Launcher Pro and love it and prefer not to switch back to SenseUi. One more thing. I really want to take out certain apps that came with the phone that are only a nuisance to me such as amazonmp3, Stocks, Tweet & google talk. And of course take advantage of the apps that are available only to rooted phones.
