I have been gone for awhile with life stuff, sorry this wasn't updated. I wont be updating this as I don't have an Eris anymore, but if you want the best info head over to XDA Eris Android Development section. Or if your looking for Android News or other tech news head over to: Hope to see you all in the Incredible or Droid X section. Remember.... ?Never take a person's dignity: it is worth everything to them, and nothing to you.? 2.1 LEAKS & RELEASES & ROOT
I think it's getting confusing w/ all these releases. Let's summarize:Original root: Filename PB00IMG.zip. An "unofficial official" ROM that provides you with initial root. Can only be flashed from a phone running 1.5. Not to be confused with any of the "unofficial official" 2.1 leaks that don't have root.
2.1 leak: Filename PB00IMG.zip. Also an "unofficial official" ROM that upgrades your 1.5 phone to a 2.1 un-rooted OS. New 2.1 leak: Filename PB00IMG.zip. Another "unofficial official" ROM that upgrades your 1.2 or "2.1 leak" phone to the most recently available un-rooted version of Android 2.1.
** By "unofficial official" I mean that the ROM's are signed by HTC and must be installed from the phone's bootloader. We cannot edit and repack files to be loaded using the phone's stock bootloader, as we cannot sign these ROM's ourselves...........
Anybody have a complete guide to rooting official 2.1 eris and then flashing custom ROM ? I got this Eris from ebay, anyway I can restore it to default official ROM if it is rooted and then go through the whole process ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust a little heads up out there for people like me who flash roms ten times a day. If you haven't already experienced this issue, you are likely to come across it in the future.
It is probably a good idea to make a backup of the contents of your sd card to keep when flashing from an a2sd enable rom to a non a2sd enabled rom. If your partitioned for a2sd and flash a non a2sd rom it will hold you phone at the boot screen or send you into an endless boot cycle.
I had to take everything off my sd card, re format the card, then flash the rom before I could load everthing back onto the card.
I may be a total noob, and for all you smart people this is probably a no brainer. But if I can keep anyone else from having this headache I thought it best to post it.
Now that I'm rooted, I'm anxious to try out some custom ROMs, but too impatient for Eris-specific ones to be released. Do ya'll think ROMs made for the Hero will work fine on the Eris?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have installed a few custom ROMs, but i'm a noob when it comes to phones, and every time i switch ROMs i start fresh with apps: redownloading them (about 100 from amazon and google), reconfiguring my home pages, and all games start back at level 1. it takes a long time to do all this, but i assumed that switching ROMs is like switching PCs (you need new drivers, you need to reinstall programs, etc, so you can't just copy A to B).
Is there some better way to automate this so that any of the following are true?
-my apps reinstall themselves in a step or two?
-my homepages are reconstructed automatically? i'm guessing this is the least likely, since homepages/launchers/etc probably differ per ROM.
-my game/app data is saved and restored easily? my kids don't want to lose their ice age village
I have titanium backup free, which i have used for complete backups in the event of a phone crash or something, but i don't know about app transfers across ROMs.
(I'm going from rooted stock to CM10 on my nook tablet, if that matters).
how to port apps and roms

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to restore all my apps and data the easiest way possible when flashing new ROMS, what is the best way to do this?I was thinking one of these ways might work?
1. Advanced restore of other ROM and only restore data, but could this be problematic?
2. Titatinium backup: What batch should I run when I'm backing up my stuff and what batch should I run when I'm restoring on a new ROM?
A question for all the frequent ROM-switchers. I've got the premium edition of Titanium, and up 'till now, every time I try out a new ROM, I have to re-load all my apps/data. It's not terribly inconvenient - I just do the batch 'restore apps/data' option - but I still have to 'confirm' the re-loading of each app, and it takes forever. It give me an 'install' prompt for each app which I have to press. Is there a faster way of restoring all my apps/data?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has an original iPhone and is thinking about UPGRADING to a Droid -- however, another Android phone caught her eye. It's the Motorola Motoroi, about to come out on TMobile. http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_xt720_motoroi-3090.php
QUESTION: Will everything that's been developed (ROMS/APPS) for the Droid also work for the Motoroi since they are both Android -- or is it not that simple?
I'm thinking that every phone is unique, so every phone will need it's own rooting program and special attention. I'm also thinking that there may not be a following like the phenomenon experienced with the Droid, with soooooooo many techy folk developing so much, so fast, and where the average guy (like me), stops in my tracks, hovering over to the geek side, wanting to learn more...
The Motoroi may be incredible on it's own, and it may not need or get the following that we have with the Droid...
But I think the wife is addicted to the idea of changing things up now and then, always looking over my shoulder at what I'm modifying next, secretly wishing that her iPhone could allow her to do the same.
I have found that the AD Community ROM acts as if it is a brand new phone, never activated, and runs you through the set up of all your settings - and then proceeds to DL all your apps that you had installed previously.I posted a comment about it at AllDroid - View topic - [Rom] AllDroid Community Beta 0.3 release and got a reply that when someone went back to un-rooted and what not, the OEM ROM did the same thing. So, this led me to believe that there is some particular setting that allows for this to occur, where the ROM being installed is installed in a certain state so as to make the phone think it has never been activated before. This being said, I wondered if other ROMs could be tricked into thinking the same thing - and I hit upon an idea- what if, after installing a new ROM, you go into settings and do the factory reset that is there? Since I don't have anything installed except for this custom ROM and SPRecovery and such, I am not really gonna lose anything by doing this, so why no give it a whirl

View 1 Replies View RelatedROM discussions keep popping up in the root threads and is getting difficult to weed through for info. I can see what kind of ROMs are available, but to be honest, I'd really like to hear what people who are using various ones think of them as far as what works and what doesn't work and I'm sure new rooters would find this usefull as well when deciding.
I am currently using Plain Jane and although I like the Sense UI and most everything seems to work ok, I'm finding that I'm not totally happy with it. Little quirks like Facebook not populating my address book, and the font gets a tad hard to read with alot of text.
I don't think it supports a2sd, but I'm not 100% positive on that.
So what is everyone else using and what do you think of it as far as what works and what doesn't work in it.
The one thing I just couldn't get to work was Navigation in Froyo ROMs. It would always get stuck at "Searching for GPS." Well on xda, a fellow member told me to flash the new CFS kernal from Conap ) So this is what I did to finally get the Navigation to work!
1. Reboot into recovery and make a Nandroid backup just in case.
2. Wipe Dalvik cache
3. Flash new CFS kernal [GPL]2.6.29.6 CFS Kernel 9/4/10 - xda-developers(There is also a BFS kernal which is only if you want high benchmarks, CFS is for overall stability)
4. Once rebooted, clear the data of Maps in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
5. Open up Maps and put in directions to an address, then click Navigate.
6. Once Navigation is up and running, it will get stuck at "Searching for GPS." Make a sandwich, wash dishes, etc.
7. Sooner or later it will get pass the "Searching for GPS" stage. (It took 15 minutes for me)
8. Navigation should be working instantly now, back out of Navigation, try a new address, and Navigation should instantly work without having to go through "Searching for GPS."
Im new to root, just did it a few days ago using root for dummies so i'm running plain jane. I would like to switch to white widow. My question is, how do i do it? Do i just drop it on to the sd root then run it from recovery? or do i have to wipe or delete something first?

Also when I do reinstall my apps, all the app data (game progress user logins etc) are gone. How can I back that up?
And finally if I do back up the data from the apps, will that mess with my ROM at all? SGH-I747
This is a weird issue I found when using Root Uninstaller..

View 1 Replies View RelatedHas anybody seen and tried this yet: [Script] Collin_ph Battery Tweak -XDA-developers. (Note that this should work with CyanogenMod 6, Froyo ROMs without a lot of work. Other ROMs would have to be changed by their developers to work. Also note that this requires either a terminal emulator on the phone, or ADB commands from a PC, to be set up, but an app is coming at some point.)

View 9 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else noticed having different signal strengths with different Rom's. I have tried using a bunch of different ones and have noticed that the non-sense Rom's tend to have much weaker signal than the sense Rom's. Any ideas as to why that is?
