Feb 28, 2010I am confused about the whole wiping the cache and data. I don't know exactly what cache and data are and that's why I'm confused. Do u have to wipe all data and cache before u switch Roms, if not what happens? I am afraid of losing all of my apps and contacts even tho my gmail will restore my contacts how do I know if it has the contacts saved and how would I get my apps back? One more thing, do u have to make more than one backup if u already have one that u r happy with?

Sep 18, 2012I am using this awesome AOKP ROM that lately has had a lot of nightlies. I have found that going back into the play store and redownloading every app.
Also when I do reinstall my apps, all the app data (game progress user logins etc) are gone. How can I back that up?
And finally if I do back up the data from the apps, will that mess with my ROM at all? SGH-I747

Oct 21, 2012I'm looking for an backup application which will allow me to backup my apps and system data on roms based on stock ICS and restore to JB and vice versa.
Titanium backup does the job but after restoring on a new rom I get a lot of fc's and none of the apps works. I cannot restore call log and text messages, accounts, etc.
There's a lot of backup apps, I know. But I would like to be sure that they work as they should. Any app which will do the job?

Mar 22, 2012i got Absolution 3.7 on my htc inspire. i noticed that the radio in Absolution 3.7 drains battery. but the radio in cm7 doesnt drain as much.. and Absolution is cm7 based. is it possible to delete the radio in Absolution and install the one from cm7?

Oct 3, 2010I did a search and couldn't find exactly what Im looking for. If there is a thread out there with this info, please let me know so we can remove this thread. I rooted my Incredible yesterday after a couple months of contemplating it (I know ) And I think I want to try Virtuous ROM. So say I go to Virtuous, but end up wanting to go back to how I have it now (stock, root, froyo). Is that going to be hard? Is that what the nandroid backup is for? Say I go to Virtuous, then decide I wanna try Cyanogen. Do I just flash the new one after doing a Nandroid, then if I dont like Cyanogen I can just open the backup and bam it's back to Virtuous? Nub questions I know, but Im skerred. Last night I installed the rotary lockscreen from Virtuous on my stock rooted rom and I really like it. If I decide I dont like it, how hard is it to change something as small as an addon, rather than the whole ROM?

Jun 28, 2010I've installed ROM Manager and I'm trying to use it to backup my current ROM and Flash to another (already download Damage Control). I'm currently running Fresh and want to try Damage Control. Anyway everytime I select the "backup current rom" option it prompts me for the file name and just boot to recovery mode and does nothing. Is there something I need to do to allow ROM Manager to work? I'm I fully rooted if i'm running Fresh? Can someone post instructions on how to flash between ROMs using Rom Manager?

Oct 4, 2010Two or three months ago, I'd heard all about rooting, but was "afraid" to do it as it looked complicated. Then came along 1-click rooting. I did it and was hooked.
As soon as 2.2 OTA came out, I had to re-root. It wasn't quite as easy to do as the 1-click, but in retrospect, the one-step root for 2.2 was very, very easy.
Then came the roms. Thanks to the help of D13 and a few others, I tried my first rom. R2D2. I didn't like things about it, but I did it.
I also bricked for the first time and was shown how to do the sdf file. It worked fine. In fact, I bricked again a few days ago, as I'm playing around with this stuff, a lot, and I might have forgotten to select "mount system" first. No problem. SDF plus back ups cover a multitude of sins!
To make a long story short, I now have played with about 5 or 6 different themes. Some I won't use anymore, such as R2D2 because it wouldn't work with swype, but I have several backed up zip files to switch around.
I think I have so much that I have gone overboard, have become addicted and need serious help! I love this stuff!
Here's a list of my zipped backups:
1) 928Droid Black Glass X: This is probably my favorite one, at this point. It is the most "finished", meaning that I have it just the way I want it.
2) Big DX Serenity (Red): This is the most fun. I like the way the dev has modded apps, especially LPP (as I purchased that). It's pretty much finished, the way I like it. I have a bit more work to do, but I like it a lot.
3) RubiX Focused 0.3:: This is the newest one. I tried it yesterday, but didn't like it because it was too dark and it wouldn't sync my google calendar and it was waaay to dark to view.
I came across the zip files to fix this and how to install them. I like this muuuch better, now. I simply cannot believe how fast this ROM boots up. 10 seconds from the Android screen!
This is probably the least developed, for me. I mean, I don't have much set up, but I can see myself loving this one too!
4) 2.2 ota rooted 2.3.15
5) 2.2 2.3.15 deodexed.
I love being able to do this and I want to thank everyone who has helped me. I'm also happy that I've begun to help others, considering how very, very simple all of this is, once you understand it.
So, am I the only addict here? It's okay if I am. Does anyone else have a lot of themes and roms backed up on their SD? (Perhaps I should further back these zips up on my PC, no?

Is there a better way to do this? Is there a way to make it restore only market apps, not system apps? Am I missing something?

Jan 5, 2013I have a Galaxy Note i717 on stock ICS. I have had a custom rom on it before (CM10 nightly) but i reverted back to stock ROM. Well last night i found the Padawon ICS 6.2 ROM. So i downloaded it and put everything on the SD Card. Then went to google play and got a couple app to backup things like titanium backup and SMS backup. I am a frequent Tap Fish and Shipwrecked player so i backed them up in hopes to keep my game data. I also made a backup of current ROM. So i installed the ROM, went to the play store downloaded Titanium and went to restore apps and nothing was there. So i went and downloaded my games and i went back into Titanium backup and still no backups were shown. Is there any possible way to keep my game data when i switch roms?

Dec 27, 2012I have installed a few custom ROMs, but i'm a noob when it comes to phones, and every time i switch ROMs i start fresh with apps: redownloading them (about 100 from amazon and google), reconfiguring my home pages, and all games start back at level 1. it takes a long time to do all this, but i assumed that switching ROMs is like switching PCs (you need new drivers, you need to reinstall programs, etc, so you can't just copy A to B).
Is there some better way to automate this so that any of the following are true?
-my apps reinstall themselves in a step or two?
-my homepages are reconstructed automatically? i'm guessing this is the least likely, since homepages/launchers/etc probably differ per ROM.
-my game/app data is saved and restored easily? my kids don't want to lose their ice age village
I have titanium backup free, which i have used for complete backups in the event of a phone crash or something, but i don't know about app transfers across ROMs.
(I'm going from rooted stock to CM10 on my nook tablet, if that matters).

Mar 10, 2012I purchased apps, via Google Play, and now can't download them. Not just to my Xoom, but also my SGS2. I've tried all download fix options on the Google site, even talked to a tech (who asked I do them again, and then respond via email).
Another option would be to do a factory wipe/reset. Since I'm playing around with ICS, I decided to revert back to factory on the Xoom and try again. Still no luck. Just stays at "Starting download". No percentage. No little "downloading..." message under it. Can't even cancel it from downloading.
And I've tried the following options:
Cleared the cache and/or data
Uninstalled updates
Logged in and out of the "Talk" app several times
Rebooted
Tried requesting from the store web page on my desktop
Tried over different wifi networks
Tried over Verizon
Tried over AT&T
Tried with ICS 4.0.3
Tried with Gingerbread 2.3.6
Tried with Honeycomb 3.2.6
Tried with a factor reset/wiped Xoom (using .img files directly from the Motorola web site)
I have plenty of free space available
I know if this doesn't get resolved, both of my android devices will have become useless to me.

HTC Incredible :: APN Quick Settings And Mobile Data Switch
May 5, 2010If you have an original unedited APN for the Incredible, please post it. I believe the app Quick Settings added the [disabled] to the APN file when I attempted to use the Mobile Data Switch. See below. Now Quick Settings Says "No APN Configured". I've emailed the dev. If so, I will remove the [disabled] to restore the file to its original state. Everything seemed to be working fine despite the [disabled] setting though, but I didn't test MMS. Current (modified by Quick Settings?) APN File from my Verizon HTC Droid Incredible:

Jul 31, 2010Ok, so I've been trying out Tasker for a day or so and loving it. Here's what I want to do: When @ home, make my wifi switch on and mobile data switch off. Anyone know how to do that? It says the mobile data switch in the app won't work for CDMA networks (requires APNdroid).
Is there anyway to tap into the widget that HTC has on our phones because that switch seems to work just fine to turn the data off. I simply want Tasker to do it automatically based on a location Context.

May 20, 2010I think I know the answer to this, but, I am returning my Incredible for a EVO..When I do this, and download AppBrain, and have it sync my apps, will everything I had downloaded/purchased for the Incredible show up and be available for me to download/install on my EVO?
I assume 2.1 is 2.1, and I should be able to get all the "offiicial" stuff; things like Swype, and others may take awhile to show up for the EVO.

Sep 23, 2010I just rooted my phone and I'm not in the know with how to install roms, however most of the rom sites indicate how to install. Most of the roms I've visited recommend doing a data wipe and a cache wipe. Is this something I have to do every time I want to install a rom? I just did a factory reset for the 2.2 OTA and, quite frankly, it was a pain in the butt to get my phone back to how I had it.So, am I going to have to do a factory reset every time i want to try a rom?

Sep 30, 2010So I'm wondering about the best way to backup apps and data before installing new roms since it usually involves a full system+data wipe. Right now I use Titanium Backup and then restore all user apps when I have the new Rom loaded. While this works pretty well, I still have to go back and change all my settings, set up my accounts, etc. Shouldn't there be some way to preserve this data? Also very frustrating is that I have to re add all my widgets in Launcherpro. Any way to get a real backup of that too? The process isn't too bad right now, but as more and more Roms come for the droid x, I'd rather not have to repeat the setup process every time.
