Motorola Droid X :: Restoring Apps On New ROMS

Oct 15, 2010

I want to be able to restore all my apps and data the easiest way possible when flashing new ROMS, what is the best way to do this?I was thinking one of these ways might work?

1. Advanced restore of other ROM and only restore data, but could this be problematic?

2. Titatinium backup: What batch should I run when I'm backing up my stuff and what batch should I run when I'm restoring on a new ROM?

Motorola Droid X :: Restoring New X Apps And Data

Aug 20, 2010

I just activated my new X.I signed into my Google account and all contacts restored but no apps.I went to the market and only the paid apps are showing. How do I get the free apps back.I have "My backup pro" backups on my Droid SD card. Can I copy the backups to the X SD card and restore from that? Will it try to overwrite the paid apps I already installed? Will the restored apps show up in the market as downloads?

Motorola Droid :: Apps Not Restoring From Backup

Aug 30, 2010

Had issues with install of Watermark'D theme over CM6 rom. Finally got all that sorted but had to elect to install Google Apps separately after the fact. I restored backups of all my apps through Titanium Backup except for three - Tweetdeck, Weather Channel, and Yellowbook. Titanium would not restore them - I would click on install, it would try, then come back with an installation failed message. Went to both the market directly and Appbrain and attempted to install them from there. Found them listed but when I clicked on it to install got an item not found message. Tried to install Tweetdeck from the apk and got the same message as with Titanium. Oh and have downloaded other app from market successfully. Any ideas?

So every time you guys are flashing different roms and stuff, are you starting from scratch downloading all your apps and configuring widgets and your home screens and all that stuff?I'd like to play around with different builds but the thought of setting everything back up, potentially multiple times, is daunting. Are you using something to backup/restore this stuff?

Motorola Droid X :: Restoring Apps With Titanium Backup

Oct 14, 2010

So I did a batch backup with Titanium and when I went to restore on a new ROM I was trying (first time I'm trying this), when restoring all of the apps, it didn't do it automatically? Like I was reloading a bunch of apps, and it prompted me for EACH APP. Is there a way to just press restore on a batch I backed up, and it just puts everything on the phone that I selected? It took a long time sitting there and pressing ok after each app.

Motorola Droid :: Apps And ROMS Work On All Platforms

Feb 25, 2010

My wife has an original iPhone and is thinking about UPGRADING to a Droid -- however, another Android phone caught her eye. It's the Motorola Motoroi, about to come out on TMobile. http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_xt720_motoroi-3090.php

QUESTION: Will everything that's been developed (ROMS/APPS) for the Droid also work for the Motoroi since they are both Android -- or is it not that simple?

I'm thinking that every phone is unique, so every phone will need it's own rooting program and special attention. I'm also thinking that there may not be a following like the phenomenon experienced with the Droid, with soooooooo many techy folk developing so much, so fast, and where the average guy (like me), stops in my tracks, hovering over to the geek side, wanting to learn more...

The Motoroi may be incredible on it's own, and it may not need or get the following that we have with the Droid...

But I think the wife is addicted to the idea of changing things up now and then, always looking over my shoulder at what I'm modifying next, secretly wishing that her iPhone could allow her to do the same.

Motorola Droid :: Custom ROMs And Reinstalling Apps

Feb 24, 2010

I have found that the AD Community ROM acts as if it is a brand new phone, never activated, and runs you through the set up of all your settings - and then proceeds to DL all your apps that you had installed previously.I posted a comment about it at AllDroid - View topic - [Rom] AllDroid Community Beta 0.3 release and got a reply that when someone went back to un-rooted and what not, the OEM ROM did the same thing. So, this led me to believe that there is some particular setting that allows for this to occur, where the ROM being installed is installed in a certain state so as to make the phone think it has never been activated before. This being said, I wondered if other ROMs could be tricked into thinking the same thing - and I hit upon an idea- what if, after installing a new ROM, you go into settings and do the factory reset that is there? Since I don't have anything installed except for this custom ROM and SPRecovery and such, I am not really gonna lose anything by doing this, so why no give it a whirl

Motorola Droid : Way To Get "Incompatible Update" With Certain Apps In ESE ROMs?

Mar 8, 2010

I think I may know why this is happening, but I don't feel like doing a full nandroid reinstall and losing my data before I ask. I'm getting "incompatible update" errors when trying to reinstall Facebook and Mixzing. Now, I had those apps installed and working on my previous ERE25 based ROM, however, I was at the time using the Dark 24K theme, which modified them. When I went to ESE53, I didn't nandroid, I just used update.zip, and that of course reinstalled the stock theme, which may be causing the problem. It's not showing those two apps in my installed apps list. When I check them in the market, they show "installed", but I am able to redownload and reinstall them, I just get the error during install.

Whats the difference between a 2.0.1 ROM and 2.1 ROM?

I've been rooted for awhile and always stuck with either AdamZ ROM or Pete's Bugless Beast and they were all based off of 2.0.1. Is there something special I need to do in order to run a ROM based off of 2.1?

Motorola Droid :: ERE25 And Restoring Applications

Mar 4, 2010

How are you restoring your apps?
Titanium Backup?
Astro?
Manual?

If manual, do you keep a list of which apps you've got installed so that you can restore them more easily? Does anyone restore /data from 2.0.1? Or will that just cause more problems? I've used Astro in the past, but not for ROM purposes. And I've got Titanium installed, but have never used it. It seems like there are several options but I've yet to hear of any preferred option from anyone. Look forward to getting in on this ERE25 action!

Motorola Droid X :: Way To Facilitate Restoring Of Stuff After Wipe?

Oct 13, 2010

i noticed that the majority of ROMs (if not all of them) require you to wipe system/data/cache before you install. my understanding is that doing this will basically reset your phone back to what it was when you first got it. i want to install a ROM, but really don't want to have to go and install all my apps again and fix all the settings for each etc. i noticed in Titanium Backup that you can backup apps, system or both. if i were to back up both and then install the ROM, when the phone rebooted, could i just install Titanium Backup and restore apps and system? would return my phone to how it was before i wiped? if this is false, are there any other ways to facilitate the restoring of stuff after wipe?

Android :: Apps Not Restoring From SD

Sep 9, 2010

After updating to 2.2 I put all of the apps I could from my phone to my SD card.I did this so I could back them up because my phone was having LED light issues so I got it replaced. So I took it to Verizon and they did a reset and it didn't help so they ordered a new phone for me.After this reset the apps from my SD card automatically "restored" (the phone used this word after it finished) my apps. Now, I have received the new phone and it is not automatically restoring this time. How can I get them to restore? When I go to applications in the settings menu it doesn't show any on the SD card. Also when I go to the market it only shows my purchased apps in the downloads section. Also my phone is NOT rooted.Any help is appreciated

HTC Eris :: Restoring Apps

Oct 17, 2010

I have been playing with more roms the last few days and as such, i have been restoring my apps and setup quite frequently.I know that the "standard" advice has been to use titanium backup and backup and restore apps. When i started this latest round of "ROM exploration" i decided to try a different method. I have always been a fan of AppBrain and so i decided to try their Fast Web Installer to install apps based on what was in my previous app list.I like this method because it forces me to actually audit what apps I have on my phone and delete the ones that I no longer use or need.I know my settings aren't maintained but I don't find it too difficult to bring my phone back to standard working order.Just thought i might share my experiences with everyone especially the ones new to root. This forum has been extremely helpful to me in my rooting process so I want to give something back to it

Motorola Droid :: Restoring Data / Nandroid Vs Titanium Backup

Feb 23, 2010

I have a question regarding restoring data after flashing to a new ROM (Bugless Beast) via a nandroid backup. I know I have the update.zip option, but that seems to introduce issues for some that I want to avoid. Now, I know I have a few options. I can batch backup apps and data with Titanium Backup, then wipe, install the new build, and then restore via Titanium. Or, I can do a nandroid backup of my phone, wipe, install the new build, and then restore only the data partition of my first backup. My question is, are either of these methods any different from just using the update.zip version of BB? For example, when I upgraded from BB .7.8 to 1.0, I lost root and had to do a full wipe and I just manually reinstalled everything. Will doing the data partition restore or titanium backup restore result in the same issues?

General :: Restoring Apps After Switching From S2 To S3?

May 12, 2014

I got my wife an S3 for Mother's day and tonight, sat down to transfer all of her data from her S2. I used the Smart Switch app and along with Contacts, pictures ect. I included her apps. Problem is not all of them switched over. I figured i'd just re-download them again from Google Play Store from the S3, however the apps "appear" to be installed. I've check to see if the missing apps were selected as hidden but there's nothing there. I'm unable to uninstall and reinstall again. Her Gmail app isn't even visible anywhere on the device....have I missed a step in doing the switch from S2 to S3? Should I be signing her out of Google Play on the S2, and how to go about signing out of Google Play Store.

Android :: Apps Trying To Automatically Restoring To Phone

Nov 18, 2010

I have been messing around with some ROMs on my Droid1, every time I flash a new rom it auto restores my apps. It hasn't done this at all until today. I have tried disabling it in my settings but it still doesn't stop. Also when I go into the downloads page in the market to cancel them, I can some of them but when I try to cancel the others if causes the market to force close. I would like to know if there is anyway to stop google from auto downloading them when I sign in? When I turned off the backup it said it would delete the info from googles servers, but it obviously has not lol because I have tried flashing the rom over again since then. I know most people would like this to happen, but I want a clean install.

Motorola Droid :: Too Many ROMS

Jun 13, 2010

I've had my Droid since February and have it rooted. I've been using Smoked Glass v6.0.1 ROM and now I'm ready to change things up. I have ROM manager premium but I'm too overwhelmed by all the choices. I've been trying to research the different ROMs out there but there are too many.

Can we make a list here of what ROMs do what? For instance I've read Bugless Beast is great for speed but Ultimate Droid is better if you want looks and don't care about speed. Don't even get me started on CyanogenMod. There are way to many options with that one.

Motorola Droid :: Roms

In here you can put what rom you are running and all the info, OC range kernels all that, and a screen shot of the main home screen. and you can discuss on which one is better. what one has that the other doesn't and etc.... i like talking about all that for some reason.

I'm running CYANOGEN MOD 5.0.5 W/ 24K THEME AND OC RANGE OF 1000-800MHZ. I have in the past run simmply stunning and smoked glass and droid mod and the desire build roms. i find cyanogen to be the smoothest and most customizable to me. I also like the updater its all very easy to use.
cons: i dont like clockwork recovery, im use to SPRecovery.

All in all CYANOGEN MOD IS THE BEST TO ME.
