HTC EVO 4G :: Will Turning Off Sense Make Difference?
May 26, 2010
Since Sense is extra drag on the phone, and the Evo has some reported lag issues, I was wondering if turning Sense off will make a difference as far as speed and battery life. I know that the ability to turn Sense off without rooting the phone exists on the Evo, but from what I've heard that feature doesn't actually turn it off, but only hides it. Can someone in the know, or who already received their Evo clarify any benefits received from turning off Sense? Aesthetics aside.

I've never had "bad" battery life but have always felt that the battery does die pretty quick. I'm text up to 100 texts a day tops, pretty heavy internet (checking work emails all day), a few phone calls here and there. Maybe some music here and there, nothing to justify the less than desirable battery life. Spare parts never showed anything out of line either. Rooting was something I had no desire to do (I tried it and found it useless for me). Like a few others, I'm patiently waiting for *whispers* THE UPDATE. Anyways I turned off Sense the other day and DRASTICALLY improved my battery life. Sense ON- wifi off, gps off, location off, mobile internet off. pretty much EVERYTHING off. By 1pm my battery was usually 50-60%. By 10pm my battery was dead. Sense OFF - wifi on and mobile internet on ALL DAY. Now by 5pm my battery is usually around 70%. Running music/HEAVY internet for the rest of the night leaves my battery at 35% by night end.

I was just thinking about my SIM card (Orange UK) and whether it would be a good idea to request a new SIM as I've had this SIM for nearly 8 years I think now. Would it make any difference to the signal and/or the performance in any way or is it not worth it?

I have a rooted evo running fresh 3.3.3.1 and so far I love it. I used unrevoked 3.21 to do this. My question is does flashing new radio files and pellet files actually increase and or decrease how well the radio works on the phone. I noticed hat once I installed wireless tether that my WiFi signal seems to go down 1 or 2 bars when the laptop is not even 10 feet away. Is thus normal. Anyway I'm very knew to the whole flashing of radio files and just wanted to hear if it does anything or not.

Since I've bought the hero I have not installed a task manager and I would see it getting a little more laggy or choppy. So I decided to install task killer, my phone is back to being the way it was when I first got it. I know the rumors and all but I do think task manager is the way to go from 90mp free to 180mb.

I downloaded PdaNet because when my brother uses it for online gaming he gets about 200-400 latency and when i use it for the exact same game i get 900 and it keeps going up and up to about 6.7k latency. Does using a laptop make a difference vs. using a desktop? or should it?

I have a non-rooted Motorola Droid running 2.2 and I want to root to try out a ROM. I want to make sure I do this right. I don't want to lose any data (pictures, texts, etc) and I don't want to lose any apps. I've read a bunch of threads and it sounds like this is the general order I should proceed in:
1 - Backup data with MyBackupPro
2 - Root
3 - Backup apps with Titanium Backup
4 - Install ROM
Is this correct? Am I missing anything? Will the root method or ROM make a difference in terms of the process?

how to make themes and using as a base the Android 4.4 KitKat Theme by Global Sense (in Google Play). I wanted to start by making simple changes, like the notification_header_bg. First I made the image in Gimp and saved it to res/drawable-xhdpi (even if my device is HDPI). Then, I added this code
Code:
<item name="drawable/notification_header_bg">@drawable/notification_header_bg</item>
And then I had the problem. It's like the image is overlapping itself, and, even if it's not transparent, it's looking brighter on one side

I am having too many confusions in native coding for android. My application wants to play mms:// stream and I'm facing some serious problems in that. But the basic question is:
What is the difference between ndk-build (that I usually use) and make APP (I have seen many blogs on them one of them is this). Another related question:
Suppose my project is in E:WorkSpacemmsTestsAnotherMMS (path edited if you want to test : it contained whitespace) And my ndk path is D:android-ndk-r4b-windowsandroid-ndk-r4b. How can I use make APP with cygwin? My OS is windows XP SP2. I have added ndk location in my PATH variable.

I see another thread on Locale, but it seems to be focused on it technical shortcomings. I thought a thread about how people are using this app would be helpful.
Now... I use Locale for the following:
- Turning the ringer down when I get to work (obviouse one)
- Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi on when I plug it in the phone (think car dock)
- Turn on Wifi when I get near my known hot spots.
- Turn off GPS/Bluetooth/wifi off and turn down brightness when my battery is low.
And the last one is a good one for me...
- I have a GV number. When I call my phone from that number, it turns the ringer volume all the way up and it turns on wifi and GPS. This is my "lost phone aid". It turns on the locating features so I can see where the phone is using iGoogle and Latitude, and I can hear the phone if it is "in the cushions" on vibrate.
Anyone else get creative with Locale?

When I trun my phone on, the scene changes from the scene I had chosen (the waving grass) to "current (unsaved)".If I change it to the one I prefer (saved with my name) I am asked to "save or cancel" the incorrect one.I click cancel, and all is well. But why does it change and how do I keep the scene selected that I want?I just want it to stick on the scene that I have chosen.

I found that by typing on the call screen:
*#*#4636#*#* ( *#*#INFO#*#* )
display the menu:
"Phone info" and scroll down to
"Turn off radio"
and you can access some additionnal settings and it seems you can turn off GSM networks without disabling FM radio or other networks (source:

I try it and this is working on my Samsung Galaxy S II. But... any gadget or a small program (maybe on Market) whit which this can be done? (with simple one touch of a single icon on the screen)

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Seems like a nice phone. Every phone I've had in the past (Nokia, Sony, etc...) has always allowed me to hide my number so that the call display on the receiver's phone shows my call as 'private'. This is useful for when you don't want certain people to have your number when you call. Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy S? I couldn't seem to find any setting how.

A friend called me the other day wondering which was better, the Evo or the DX. I told her that they were pretty much the same phone, but go with Evo for 4G and cheaper plan. But aside from those two things, how are the two phones different? I mean, they really aren't that much, are they? It must be just really little things.

I saw the post by HTC about getting those who flashed the update this week to "get back on track".
I was wondering if they started the OFFICIAL OTA update yet and if so what are the differences between them.
I flashed one of the rooted 3.26 2.2 ROMs.

My DX came with Android 2.2 v2.3.15. I flashed my first ROM, the rubiX Blurry 1.5.2 and when I checked my settings it said I was on Android 2.2 v2.3.15. Yesterday I flashed this rubiX Blurry 1.6.3 ANDROID DOES EXCLUSIVE and now it says I'm on Android 2.2.1 v2.3.20. How is that possible, I never flashed the new SBF leak file? Is there a difference between 2.3.20 & 2.3.320? Or did he just edit the build.prop and rename the os and build.
