HTC Hero :: Will New SIM Make Any Difference?

Aug 28, 2010

I was just thinking about my SIM card (Orange UK) and whether it would be a good idea to request a new SIM as I've had this SIM for nearly 8 years I think now. Would it make any difference to the signal and/or the performance in any way or is it not worth it?

HTC EVO 4G :: Will Turning Off Sense Make Difference?

May 26, 2010

Since Sense is extra drag on the phone, and the Evo has some reported lag issues, I was wondering if turning Sense off will make a difference as far as speed and battery life. I know that the ability to turn Sense off without rooting the phone exists on the Evo, but from what I've heard that feature doesn't actually turn it off, but only hides it. Can someone in the know, or who already received their Evo clarify any benefits received from turning off Sense? Aesthetics aside.

HTC EVO 4G :: Flashing New Radio Files Really Make Any Difference

Sep 30, 2010

I have a rooted evo running fresh 3.3.3.1 and so far I love it. I used unrevoked 3.21 to do this. My question is does flashing new radio files and pellet files actually increase and or decrease how well the radio works on the phone. I noticed hat once I installed wireless tether that my WiFi signal seems to go down 1 or 2 bars when the laptop is not even 10 feet away. Is thus normal. Anyway I'm very knew to the whole flashing of radio files and just wanted to hear if it does anything or not.

HTC EVO 4G :: Task Managers Make Difference - Tested

Jun 25, 2010

Since I've bought the hero I have not installed a task manager and I would see it getting a little more laggy or choppy. So I decided to install task killer, my phone is back to being the way it was when I first got it. I know the rumors and all but I do think task manager is the way to go from 90mp free to 180mb.

Motorola Droid :: Root Method / ROM Make A Difference Interms Of Process?

Sep 16, 2010

I have a non-rooted Motorola Droid running 2.2 and I want to root to try out a ROM. I want to make sure I do this right. I don't want to lose any data (pictures, texts, etc) and I don't want to lose any apps. I've read a bunch of threads and it sounds like this is the general order I should proceed in:
1 - Backup data with MyBackupPro
2 - Root
3 - Backup apps with Titanium Backup
4 - Install ROM
Is this correct? Am I missing anything? Will the root method or ROM make a difference in terms of the process?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Technical Difference Between 2.1 ROM On Hero With 1.5

Jan 26, 2010

OK so this was in regards to me talking to my buddy about trying to get Google Goggles to work on my 1.5 Hero since it already works on his 1.6 MyTouch.I know that the Roms are all different but one thing I just can't get. What is the technical difference between a 2.1 ROM on a Hero with 1.5, and a 2.1 ROM on a Hero with 2.1?I know the ROMs now are based on 1.5 themselves so they run well on the Hero, but they are messing with 2.1 ROMs, and I'm not sure what that means when it's "based" (or is it based, I don't get that part) on a 1.5 OS on the Hero.I apologize for not being able to word this well, hopefully you guys understand it.The conclusion obviously would also be if someone makes a 1.6 ROM then that should either technically run Google Goggles (just like running apps2sd), or since it's based on our Hero's 1.5, is this not correct?

Android :: Difference Between NDK Build And Make APP For Android?

Nov 18, 2010

I am having too many confusions in native coding for android. My application wants to play mms:// stream and I'm facing some serious problems in that. But the basic question is:
What is the difference between ndk-build (that I usually use) and make APP (I have seen many blogs on them one of them is this). Another related question:
Suppose my project is in E:WorkSpacemmsTestsAnotherMMS (path edited if you want to test : it contained whitespace) And my ndk path is D:android-ndk-r4b-windowsandroid-ndk-r4b. How can I use make APP with cygwin? My OS is windows XP SP2. I have added ndk location in my PATH variable.

Sticking my neck out and asking a question that might see obvious, but, what is the difference between an App and a Widget?I assume the function differently or they wouldn't have different names.Yet, when I look at the stuff I have on my screens, they look the same.Someone told me to get rid of my Widgets to reduce lag.(I plan to keep my widgets because I only have 4, I think, three toggles and one weather.) But, why would Widgets create lag and Apps don't?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Need To Make My Hero Faster?

Mar 14, 2010

Well, I was playing with my phone today and I might have made it a faster in a few minutes. This is what I did Home - Menu -settings - Applications - Manage Applications. In this menu it shows how much memory each program is using (?), not really sure, but if you click on the program you can clear out the cache and also clear the data of the program. I cleared out all of the data and cache from the programs that I dont use (sprint TV, NFL crap, footprints, etc...). It seems like its running faster, might help for people that have been using the phone for a long time and have a build up of data just sitting there doing nothing? Let me know if this works for anyone else!

HTC EVO 4G :: Hero's Physical Specs Going To Make EVO?

EVO doubles Hero's processor, internal memory and RAM. I'm wondering how exactly that will translate into daily usage. Mayhaps I should post on the Nexus board since that runs a snapdragon but I'm sure there are people here who have handled both.I'm going to use a few apps I use as an example: Astro File Manager: running the app manager can take 20-30 seconds to fully 'load the packages' to backup/install/uninstall/etc.More Icons Widget: populating the apps list takes 20-30 seconds. aTrackDog: populating the apps list can take 45-60 seconds.

Android :: How To Make A Hero Into A Phone?

Jan 16, 2010

I just took delivery of my HTC Hero (T-Mobile G2 Touch) and its got so many toys, its unbelievable! However, after the initial honeymoon period, I decided it might be an idea to set the phone up for use as a phone. This is where the Hero is sadly lacking - I gave up on Nokia years ago because you needed to download apps to make the apps work, and it seems that HTC have taken on a few ex-Nokia employees as their design team. My main criticism is the exclusion of the most basic function of being able to set a custom sms tone. I'm not one of those that subscribe to the idea that connecting your phone to a pc and sifting through loads of files and folders called 'dit' 'dat' 'dot' 'com' and 'bollox' is any fun at all, and am a firm believer that ALL of these functions should be able to be accessed from the phone itself. Sure, a usb connection is useful, but should NOT be a necessity. With all that in mind, I found the following to be essential in turning a HTC Hero back into a phone.

HTC Hero :: Make Battery Last More Than Twice As Long?

Aug 27, 2009

I was really dissapointed with the performance of my battery in the hero, even when i turn off wifi and stop my apps from using the network it still drains so fast! so, i thought i would try turning off 3G so it uses 2G just to test and see if it makes a big difference..

It does.. Its far better now.. i dont really see a speed difference using 2G either, granted the inetrnet isnt as fast but i dont hammer the internet anyway, only to check a few sites occasionally so i'll put up with a few seconds delay if it boosts my battery performance as much as it does!
