HTC EVO 4G :: Easiest Method (Fresh / Toast) To Get Rooted Wireless Tether?
Jun 14, 2010I have been reading myself in circles & am a bit confused on which way to go. I am enjoying the Evo but I would like the wireless tether. I guess there are other rooted things in the future I could install but the big draw for me is replacing my wmwifirouter on my WM device on my Evo.
I just don't know what the downsides are for one over other other. I think that Fresh has tethering already built in but I don't know if there are issues with the SD card or other items. Or should I just get the stock ROM that is rooted over at XDA?

Sep 4, 2010I've uploaded a pre-rooted version of HTC's latest ROM. This is basically stock with root, except I've disabled the annoying boot sound.It includes radio 5.09.05.30_2.To install you must be rooted with custom recovery. A full wipe shouldn't be necessary if you're currently on an official rom, since this isn't modified from stock. Do a nandroid backup before you install.There's no changelog from 2.09.405.8, but I've noticed my GPS problems went away.

Oct 26, 2010I have a unbranded HTC Desire. I'm still on 2.1 which I rooted 3 months ago. I'm wondering on updating to froyo and keep root. I'm not interested in any custom rom's, I like stock one. The only thing I rooted at first is to install my app's on SD instead of internal memory. My device specs are:

Also i cant change what keypad i use for the phone it gives me the 3 options but never changes even though i select diff.

Oct 28, 2010Received the upgrade from Telstra Australia today for my Desire. I'm not very good with the tech and software side of things (quite a dunce really) and have looked for a guide as to what to do prior to installing the update and also once completed. Is anyone able to steer me in the right direction as to where a good guide is or maybe a few pointers. My phone isn't rooted and is not something I want to gamble with being not techsavvy.

Jul 25, 2010Yesterday, I finally decided to root my phone and flash an android 2.2 'with Sense' ROM. I followed this guide: How To: Install Froyo On An HTC Desire | I Can Has Pi?
I used the 2.2 Sense ROM recommended by the guide. Everything was going really well, but once the proses was over I saw some things that instantly made me wish I had never bothered rooting:
-I have a VERY low internal memory; no room for half my backed-up apps, no room for SMS, no room to take a low resolution photo(let alone 720p video!), and not even room to browse my photos or music(I know-weird...)!
-Some apps (like the HTC MOD keyboard with voice input) simply don't work.
-Slow boot and load HTC Sense.
-Programs force-close very often, as dose HTC Sense.
There are some good things in this ROM (like a slight increase in performance) but really, the bad outweighs the good- especially with the low storage, considering that the main reason I rooted was to get more space for apps!
I don't know what to do now. Is there a solution within the ROM I'm using at the moment? Or did I just use a crappy ROM. Which can you recommend (Froyo w/Sense)? Unrooting seems quite easy, or is that dumb now that I've gone through the trouble of rooting? I can't be without receiving SMS for much longer!

Nov 22, 2010i have rooted 2.1 how do i upgrade to 2.2? kies tells me it cant upgrade the firmware on my device. is this because i have rooted my phone? if so. how do i reflash to the original firmware to upgrade to 2.2 and whats the easiest process of backup?You'll have to excuse my naivety but i did some searching and couldnt find anything specific enough.

Aug 4, 2010All files needed are available on my web site: Android - whiterabbit.org unless you still need to root your phone or downgrade to 2.0.1, the files needed for that will be linked to from those guides. The purpose of installing this way is to use the original OTA updates from Google, and only modify them enough to have root access. When you are done, you will have a system that is capable of installing the next OTA (gingerbread) when it arrives. Hopefully we will be able to patch it in the same way to keep root. This is only for people who don't want to run custom roms, but still want to have root.

I for one want to thank all of you that have put in your personal time and hard work to do for this community the things you have done. I also understand you have told everyone that when you do this stuff with your phone there is a risk. That being said what is the best way to go from 2.3.9 to 2.3.15 and stay rooted. I am currently running flyx on my phone as well that i love and i have a black status bar as well not sure if this makes a difference. Thank you for your help.

Oct 30, 2010I have a rooted Droid Eris with celb froyo 3.3. Before this I had kaosfroyo v34. Before I rooted my phone I was able to connect to my PC, then, a few months later I couldn't. This was all before I rooted my phone. Then I rooted it on my parents computer and put kaos on it, and it started to work for a day then quit the next time I connected it to their computer. It even connected to my computer. I have no "connect PC" option in my settings. No USB notification in my notifications on my phone and PC says USB device not recognize. All my USBs are good bcuz my keyboard and mouse work fine.

Sep 14, 2010So I rooted my droid about 2 months ago. I have Bugless Beast V0.4 and I used SPRecovery. No joke, but as soon as I rooted, I got the official Froyo update from VZW. I clicked on install and it took me to recovery mode ( i think that's what it's called) and I just clicked on "reboot now" and my phone stayed rooted. Now I'm getting the Froyo update message about once a week (since then) and each time I just "reboot" the phone. Well today I got a text from VZW saying that my droid was sent the Android 2.2 update and to click for more info. What do I do and/or how do I stop the updates from coming? I love the way my droid is right now and do not want to change it.!

I debranded my own desire with the goldcard method, and then using the unrevoked method i rooted my phone.
Hubby updated his Desire over the air to 2.2
Has an easy method to root this 2.2 update been created yet.
Didn't mind taking a chance with my phone, but not with someone elses!
