Can you wifi tether on a Froyo 2.2 non rooted evo? Please help since my dsl in the office has been disconnected by my partner and I myself will be moving out in 3 months, hence need a temporary wifi option.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAll I really want to do is root my phone to allow free wifi tethering so I don't have to pay sprint another $30 a month, be able to control my CPU so I can try to help my battery a bit.... and whatever else I can do to help the battery.
What is my best choice for rooting to get what I want? And also, do I need to install a ROM to get this.
I know I need a wireless tether app for rooted phones, the setcpu app for my cpu control.
If there anyway to do it other than pda net? im on a mac running 10.4 and they only support 10.5+.

The android-wifi-tether site shows only a "wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9.apk" for the HTC Evo 4G Android 2.1 (Eclair) version. Some posts say it works for 2.2, but it clearly says *** EXPERIMENTAL ***, and that is for 2.1. SO given that many of us will now have a rooted 2.2, who is using what to get WiFi tether on our rooted 2.2 EVO?
View 33 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know if there's a way to tether with the USB cable. I currently have Velocity v0.03 w/ drellisdee's GNM Turbo 4 kernel. The WiFi tether works fine but I want a way to tether with wired so it doesn't eat up my Ally's battery. I seen this: android-wired-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code. But it requires RNDIS kernel (or whatever it is), and apparently the kernel I have loaded doesn't have this. Any other options or is there I can get the RNDIS kernal on my Ally? Yes, I realize it requires an app. I'm asking for a free alternative and NOT a paid one.

Got an evo and had it flashed to metro pcs so everything works to my knowledge, talk,text,mms,internet,gps, etc. Was the phone rooted then?

So it was a verizon phone before the metro flash and the 3g hotspot feature doesnt seem to work. so I did some research and ended up getting the wireless tether app. but I cand get my ipod touch to connect to it, well that is it shows its connected but the ipod says it cant connect to the internet. ultimately I want an ipad to replace the ipod but for now my wife wants the ipod and while away or on a trip it would be cool to be able to use the evo as a hotspot. any ideas why it wont work, does the kernel support tethering?? is it not able to connect to an adhoc wifi? is it beacuse its flashed onto metro? all in all this is such a cool phone and am so happy with it just wonder if theres something I am just not getting.
I have my phone rooted with toast's i removes some bloatware so i know its rooted properly. i download wireless tether for rooted phone. when i click start tether it says. unable to start tethering, please try again.

I have downloaded several of the android wifi tether versions (the free one) and several of the versions say that I don't have root and will not let me tether the phone. I can type su in terminal and get the # line so I think I have root. I also tried barnacle and it will let me connect to the network but will not go online. I am very new to to all of this but we are going on a long trip and want to use her phone to tether an ipad. I have an incredible and can't do it with mine yet.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOn my netbook, i can''t seem to get a connection to stick in xp. It will say "connected" but then jumps to connect to the other wireless router signal I have in the house. I tried shutting down the house router, and I just could not connect. I have Ubuntu installed on an sd card so I booted said netbook into that. Wireless tether works fine there. I need wireless tether in windows, though. For work. I am using 2.0.5 -pre11 version.
Is there another version that I should be using? Slightly aggravated as I've been at this for an hour and a half now. I know i've seen threads to this effect, but can't seem to get the right info at this point. Also, could someone please confirm thier wireless network adapter settings on the laptop side? I assume it's auto -acquire for both ip and dns, but wasn't sure.
Can anyone point me in the right direction I have read what I can in posts on the topic and they all seem pretty old and get confusing to me as.

Not working for me- connection is establishing between phone and computer but no data is being transferred. According to the google code page for the app there's a problem with Desire compatibility. I'd use the wired USB internet sharing feature in the meantime but that isn't working for me either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI rooted my Eris and I am running KaosFroyo v37. I downloaded Wireless Tether, and its not working. Its broadcasting that it made an available wireless access point, but when I try to connect to it nothing happens. My computer wont link up to it. I know my WiFi card works because I have a working wireless access point where I live that I use every day with no issues. Its like my laptop sees the network, but wont associate with it. I tried using barnacle and it did the exact same thing.

I connect to my windows 7 pc and it is fine for surfing the web but if i download torrents it works for a couple minutes then i can see the 3g icon go away and come back over and over. But i download torrents fine if i use pdanet to tether.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been reading myself in circles & am a bit confused on which way to go. I am enjoying the Evo but I would like the wireless tether. I guess there are other rooted things in the future I could install but the big draw for me is replacing my wmwifirouter on my WM device on my Evo.
I just don't know what the downsides are for one over other other. I think that Fresh has tethering already built in but I don't know if there are issues with the SD card or other items. Or should I just get the stock ROM that is rooted over at XDA?
What I'm wondering is if I root my phone and tether it with my laptop for Internet will I receive extra charges from verizon?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs the title, I downloaded barnacle about 2 weeks ago and could not get it working on my phone then visited the makers site on my laptop. Found a link on there to the settings needed to make it work on the X10 and here it is: Set LAN to athwlan0 Thats it! So if your rooted you can turn your X10 into a wifi hotspot and run what you want on it! 2 laptops and a PS3/Xbox? no problems. Let your poor friend who needs to use wifi to go online with their phone? No problem.
Apparently you can even let an ipad go online via the app and it is bloody fast I use a dongle for internet and although its on the same network as my phone the phone is lightening quick at sending data! Once connected it will show up as your only connected to a local network but it runs via an adhoc network so will only show a local connection. There are a few other minor connection details but you should find the answer with playing with it or just post on here and I will try to help.
I am Rooted using Wireless Tether on my netbook to use my slingbox. I'm a little worried about setting off Red Flags over @ VZW. Anyone else doing the same? Hows your Data Usage?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike the the post says my wireless tether no longer works( at leat not fast ) with any of my 2.2 nandroid backup I have all the wireless thether downloads ( the 2.0.2 and all the 2.0.5 versions ) and they just stoped transfering or transfer really slow. By slow I mean it will take anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute sometimes longer for a page to load. This is the case with all my 2.2 roms Damage Control 3.5, Baked Snack 1.0 and 1.5, Fresh 3.something and even my stock 2.2 rooted rom. This is the case with any kernel and I have been using various Kings, (but tend to stick with Netarchy's kernels) All with the same problem. Everything else works flawlessly.
This wouldnt be a big deal except I use wireless tether everyday for homework so it is a must have for me. I had to use the tether feature on my wifes Palm Pre (you know how that made me feel) I have her phone overclocked to 800mhz and it felt as if her battery was going to melt or explode, which usuall happens if you use it for too long. I had to get an Ice pack and put a towel on it to keep the phone cool while tethering.
I even tried it with flashing new room and kernel and the only app being all the versions of the wireless tether. That still was a no/go.
I however did find a solution but not a good one. I had a nandroid back up of a HTC 2.1 stock rooted rom with Nand unlocked and with the FPS un capped. This however when I look for wireless networks to connect to on my computer, it shows up as 3computer connected together instead of the 5 escalating bars like in the att comercials (dont ban me for that)
but it works perfectly and lightning fast. The version I'm usuing is the 2.0.2 version not any of the 2.0.5 versions.
I know this is a bit drawn out but can anyone explain why this happened? I mean it worked one night and the next it didnt. Or can someone can someone explain why it works on 2.1 and not on 2.2?
I miss some of my 2.2 feature but there are none that I can't live without but I would like to be on the latest software version.
