i have rooted 2.1 how do i upgrade to 2.2? kies tells me it cant upgrade the firmware on my device. is this because i have rooted my phone? if so. how do i reflash to the original firmware to upgrade to 2.2 and whats the easiest process of backup?You'll have to excuse my naivety but i did some searching and couldnt find anything specific enough.

But since I pressed the post thread button I may as well ask here.I'm trying to replace a notification file in system/media /audio/notification and not having much luck. Astro won't do it. I've tried the file manager in Android Mate (given su permission) and it deleted the original file and when I transfer the new one in it says it was successful but the file doesn't show up. Reboot and it's still not there.Is there a good free file manager that will work with rooted phones, or what is the best paid one to go for? Thx

So what can I do? And how can I do that? Does a factory reset reinstall the uninstalled stock applications?
I just rooted my samsung galaxy s using RYANZAS Lag fix OCLF 2.2 then i unrooted the phone and i realized that some options in the OCLF Had dissapeared such as Unlag fix etc, im a real n00b in this so i rooted my phone again and now its normal rooted with the lag fix can i unroot it now Will the lag fix stay?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a big problem with my Galaxy S immediately after upgrading to the JPM/Froyo firmware. Immediately after the update the phone attempted to reboot, and now stays on the Galaxy S logo way too long before the screen goes blank and only the bottom two buttons are illuminated. And it just stays like that. I have a feeling that it might have something to do with the OneClickLagFix that was installed on the phone; maybe the upgrade didn't like the lag fix being there. Also, on pressing VolumeDn, Home and Power to get the recovery screen, the screen is replaced with a yellow "Downloading. Do not turn off Target!!!" splash. So there are no recovery options.

I have an i9000M (Bell) Galaxy S that is unlocked. I have had different versions of Froyo on the phone in the last couple of months, Currently, I have JPO and it is working fine.
My first question is,
Is there a generic (Non Bell, Orange, Att, etc.) version of Android that works on any android phone? Also, what about a version that works on any brand of phone, sort of like WIndows on a PC. I know there are a sh*t load of different phones out there, but I was wondering if a generic version would work.

Can I flash a European version of Froyo onto my Canadian phone?
My unbranded SGS is currently running 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6) which I updated via the registery hack last month. It's running smooth and I've not had any problems My question is, what is the difference between my existing version and the 'offical' Froyo 2.2 that will be released soon? Would I be able to update my firmware to the newer version since I'm already on 2.2 (I9000XXJPM, FROYO.XWJP6)?

I'm not very good with the tech and software side of things (quite a dunce really) and have looked for a guide as to what to do prior to installing the update and also once completed. Is anyone able to steer me in the right direction as to where a good guide is or maybe a few pointers. My phone isn't rooted and is not something I want to gamble with being not techsavvy.

When I USB my phone to PC - the PC doesn't see either the phone pr the card although I haven't reinstalled HTC Sync). At this point, I don't really even know if I'm rooted or have busybox.I'm really puzzled as to what I should do next:I don't know whether to do a phone restore from Settings or, perhaps from Recovery? Or whether to find a RUU (Is there one with the updated radio or with Froyo? Or, I guess I could wait for the OTA - but that's a wimped out way out and it might not even work at this point. Or, do I want to try reinstalling Rom Manager and do the permission fix - then reflash one of the Froyo Roms. But would that get me Market back? In all cases I'm gonna have to reinstall most of my apps since most resided (at least partially) on the dead sd. Fortunately appbrain has a record of all my apps. - but, from what I understand, there's no way to install the Market, except via HTC/Google/Verizon.

Ok i had to do a factory reset after the update (after backing up my contacts), but now it works faster, is more beautiful and of course Flash player is installed. A lot of little neat things were added as well. So i am happy and you should be too! Go update through KIES! Froyo should be there!

Comments made were as followed:-
UPDATE: The Galaxy S won�t be able to update to Android 2.2 and above. It will remain on Android 2.1.
UPDATE 2: Samsung will update the Galaxy S to 2.2 from their manufacturing facility. No word on the timing but those new devices will run on Android 2.2. They are still working on how to upgrade current units that are running on Android 2.1.

]I got a samsung galaxy s on contract with t mobile in the uk. When I go on kies I see that there is a firmware update available but it says that its not available for my handset.
Now my baseband number is I9000boJF1 and my firmware version is 2.r update. I heard some post say recently that 2.2 update is only available for payg handsets and not contract handsets is that true? If the froyo update is still out there for t mobile then i will wait but if it is not coming at all then can someone post me how i can use the odin method to upgrade. Note my baseband version, last time I used odin with wrong files and it messed my galaxy s.

So I rooted the phone and installed recovery on it and installed the froyo JIT thingie and it seems to have sped up a little. I want to overclock to 614mhz, sweet spot, so I installed the setcpu, but it only goes up to 528mhz, and I've tried searching, and I can't seem to find an answer. So I was wondering if someone could lead me to the right path?
