HTC EVO 4G :: Still On Rooted 2.1 (Un-revoked)
Sep 22, 2010
I rooted only for the free wireless tethering capability and now I am stuck on 2.1 and would like update to Froyo. I have read all the forums about flashing a custom rom etc, but it all seems to go over my head. Does anyone have advice on the easiest/best way to update to 2.2 but keep root and wireless tether, etc? Can I just accept the ota 2.2 update and re-root or would that mess things up?

I've done a NAND backup, and I downloaded the full pay version of titanium backup and have frozen the bloatware and backed up everything on TB as well. so, now wondering how to do the fun stuff.
1. Should I try a new rom? If so which one is a good place to start for a noob? I am just looking mainly for something cool, clean, hopefully increase speed, eliminate lag, and has some cool stuff built in so I dont have to figure out how to do that stuff myself. Also I would want a ROM that still allows 4g etc.. and all the good stock stuff
2. Now that I am rooted, how do I backup things to the SD card? Previously I used the appstosd app from the market, shoudl I just keep using that? Anything that I should NOT transfer to SD, or can I just move everythign that it allows me to?

I am sure it's been answered but I failed completely in finding what directions for my exact state and being a n00b when it comes to rooting, I've decided to ask first.
I am currently on rooted T-Mobile's ERE27. This morning I got OTA upgrade, however, when I tried to install it I got the "verification failed" message. After I restarted the phone, I looked at the SD card and found no Update.zip of any kind.
Several questions:
1) Should I wait for an OTA? Will an OTA update work on rooted Nexus?
2) If I have to do it manually, can someone please explain the steps I should take or link me to a guide that fits my state?
3) Will an upgrade, manual or OTA, wipe the phone?

has anyone rooted and used the hero without flashing a rom? even for a little while? my main question is: did or can anything go wrong with a rooted -only- phone? if i cant get the update anywhere ill finally root to delete the useless sprint apps but im happy with the OS as is so im not interested in the risks that may be involved with flashing. thank you for your patience as im new to android.

I rooted my phone recently and installed the leaked 2.2 update.I ran Unrevoked as well as Unrevoked Forever, so I have S-OFF on my phone.I want to now put the official 2.2 release on my phone, while of course keeping my root.It would be best to keep my data on there, but if I have to run a Titanium backup and restore once it's installed, that's okay too.I just need to know the process to do this and where to get the update.I am running the leaked 2.2 Froyo update from May and I have the 2.05.00.06.11 radio.

Which security software would you say is better for a non-rooted/rooted Android?
I have Cerberus on my SGS3 (Rooted), but a friend of mine has a non rooted SGS3 and wants to buy either Phone locator Pro or Cerberus.
1. (For Non-Rooted) In your mind, which would you say is better and why?
2. (Rooted) In your mind, which would you say is better and why?

I'm a VZW subscriber. I currently use a Storm 2 (HATE IT). I have been waiting... and waiting for the N1. I have a friend that works in the higher ups of VZW (not retail). I was just giving him shit the other day about the N1 situation. He said, "you should just get the Incredible it has slight better specs and the optical mouse.". I then told him my dislike for Sense UI. He said, "well then just root it".Would there be any difference between a rooted N1 and a rooted Incredible? Wouldn't they then have the exact same OS? (Provided I was going to flash it with Cyanogen). Thusly I would have the same phone with better specs, if I got the Inc over the N1. Is this flawed thinking? Since the N1 is Googles phone and gets updates first. When you root and flash with a diff ROM, do you then not get updates? I'm guessing you would be reliant on the updates to that ROM which ever MOD you choose.

Currently I have an Eris with v3 Leak meaning I can't root. But my wife loves my phone so I plan on giving her mine and either getting another eris and rooting or a Moto Droid and rooting. I've been trying to read up on the Droid and the different ROMS available and have some questions.First I want to make a few things clear:
1. This IS NOT a phone comparison.
2. The Incredilble IS NOT an option since it can't be rooted and I don't want to spend $200 on it.
3. I'm looking for WELL INFORMED OPINIONS, if you don't have one keep moving there is nothing to see here.
To be fair I've obviously done a lot more reading on the Eris which is why I'm looking for well informed opinions from Droid owners that way I can make a well informed decision.

There's been a lot of comparison between the stock Hero and Moment but I was wondering if anyone has played with both a rooted Hero and Moment. Becoming more and more set on switching over to the Hero.Rooted & got CL14 on my Moment last night thanks to zefie, numus, and the great guys at sdx, but maybe I just had my expectations too high as I didn't see a large improvement over the stock kernel & ROM, esp in speed (did fix the battery meter and improved battery life thank god!).I understand rooting a Hero makes it faster but by how much? How does it compare to a rooted Moment running a home replacement app (like PandaHome)? This way I feel it's comparing apples to apples in terms of experience, as opposed to compared to a rooted Moment running stock home.Ever since I got the Moment, I've been trying to get Sense-like stuff on it (like a lot of ppl haha). Coming from the less-sophisticated BB Curve, I was surprised when stock Android didn't support things like Facebook integration (I know it's coming in 2.1, but HTC has it now).

Well, it's being reported, however not confirmed that the Droid Incredible has finally been rooted. He's also reporting that he's OCed to 1.5GHz.What's more he's working on 2GHz.Good Lord, could you imagine?I've been saying that as of right now, based on personal preference, that a rooted Droid is the best option. But this will def start to sway opinions, including mine.

Long time lurker and fan of the forums. I recently rooted my stock 2.2 Evo with 3.21 and it's awesome. Except I noticed I now have a very weak wifi signal. I would say it is a 50 to 75% drop.
Places my iPad has full signal my Evo can barely keep a connection. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as I'm out of ideas.

I recently rooted my EVO (Tonight!) I downloaded SetCPU so the processor will run faster when its awake and slower when its not. I can't for the life of me seem to figure out how the heck to get it to overclock. I don't see the word anywhere in the app, and the slide bar only goes up to 998 mhz (my Evo's max?) Is it in the other menu settings I don't quite get?

Just did one click root and im now fully rooted on stock 2.1 ota. I downloaded 2.2 rooted + the radio and wifi. How do I go about installing it? Should I do it through Rom manager? or do it under clockwork recovery? And which do I do first? The rom or the radio/wimax? Do I need to rename any of the Zips?

My EVO is rooted and I have been searching for an updated list of apps that are safe to remove but haven't been able to find anything recent. Those that I have found contradict each other as to which apps are safe to remove. I would like to remove the following apps: BluetoothShare, CarPanel, FM Radio, FootPrints, News, Peep, RSS Reader, Stocks, and Weather. If anyone has removed these without any ill effects I would like to know.

Basically, I like the look and feel (and stability) of a stock rom, and the only real reason I'd like root access is for wireless tethering (and maybe Titanium Backup).
I got my Evo on the day it was released, and rooted using unrevoked3 back in July. Only after doing that did I realize that unrevoked3 sometimes causes some problems because it's not a full root.
I did not accept the OTA 2.2 because, even though I was OK losing root and then re-rooting whenever 2.2 could be rooted, I saw that people trying to accept the OTA over unrevoked3 were having major problems. I waited around for something that seemed to be a good, stable stock rooted 2.2 rom, and finally flashed it a few days ago. This is the ROM that I used: [ROM] UPDATED 9/8 Froyo 2.2, v3.28.651.6 │Rooted│ DeOdexed RevF1 - xda-developers.
I used Clockwork (because I couldn't figure out how to get Amon Ra) to do a wipe of data and cache, and the flash the ROM and radio/WiMax. I restored everything with Titanium, and it generally has been functional. However, I'm having the following problems:
1) The battery is draining at an alarming rate -- about 10% per hour, and I have the seidio 3500 battery. Before flashing, I was losing about 3% per hour.
2) It seems to be often trying to sync my Google contacts and getting hung up. I believe I have greatly reduced this problem by installing a Gmail patch today that was posted in the thread in which I got the ROM.
3) The 3G, CDMA, and Wimax signals are all noticeably weaker than they were pre-flash.
So basically, I'm not sure where to go from here. I don't know if there's anyway I can do a full root/unlock NAND now (which might be the culprit). I also don't know how I can use Amon Ra instead of Clockwork (which might be the culprit). All I'm trying to do, as I said, is get a stable, rooted 2.2 ROM with the same battery life and signal strength I had before.
